    There comes a time in almost every filmmaker’s career when they decide to adapt to changing times. Some find success and others, not so much. 
    Here’s a look at 5 such filmmakers who tried to be “cool” but failed miserably. These include some of the most notable Hindi filmmakers like Aditya Chopra, Subhash Ghai, and Sooraj Barjatya.
    Take a look at the list below:
    1. Sooraj Barjatya’s Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon  © Rajshri Productions
    Known for his family-oriented entertainers, be it his debut Maine Pyaar Kiya or Hum Aapke Hain Koun and Hum Saath Saath Hain, in 2002 Sooraj tried to break from the tradition of his production house and decided to go “young”. The end result was Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon. 

    In an interview , Sooraj had called it “a young film” with “contemporary” music that “has a western groove”. 
    Starring three young stars of that time, Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan, it was expected that Sooraj Barjatya will be able to break the mould and come out triumphant. But, the film turned out to be a huge critical and commercial flop. 
    Post, the failure of Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon, Sooraj returned to his roots and delivered a huge blockbuster in Vivah.

    After making three huge blockbusters starring Shah Rukh Khan, Aditya Chopra decided to attempt a youth-oriented film for today’s generation.

    The idea behind making Befikre for Aditya Chopra was simple, “What kind of film would I make if I was 23 today?” This was his first film as a director that didn’t star Shah Rukh Khan. 
    The film starred Ranveer Singh and Vaani Kapoor in the lead roles.  
    Unfortunately, in an attempt to be “cool” and be in sync with today’s generation, Aditya Chopra delivered the first dud of his career as a director. He is yet to direct another film. But, it will be interesting to see which subject he will try to make a film on and whether he will go back to his lucky charm Shah Rukh Khan or not. 
    3. Subhash Ghai’s Yaadein   © Mukta Arts
    Once known as the 'Showman', filmmaker Subhash Ghai directed some of the most iconic films in the ‘80 and ‘90s including Karma, Karz, Ram Lakhan, Hero, Pardes, Meri Jung, Saudagar, Khalnayak and Taal.  

    With the start of the new millennium, he decided to make a young love story that will cater to the youth of that time. But, in an attempt to be “cool”, he delivered one of the most loathsome watching experiences in Yaadein.  
    Starring Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor and Jackie Shroff, Yaadein was a commercial and critical misfire. It’s been over 20 years, Subhash Ghai is yet to direct a successful film.  
    4. Harry Baweja’s Love Story 2050  © Baweja Movies pvt ltd
    In the ‘90s, Harry Baweja was known as a mass filmmaker who helmed highly successful and cult films like Dilwale, Diljale, Trinetra and Qayamat. 

    In 2008, he decided to attempt a sci-fi, futuristic love story titled Love Story 2050. Made on a grand canvas, the film marked the debut of his son Harman Baweja and also starred Priyanka Chopra.  
    The film was a critical and commercial disaster and Harry Baweja is yet to make another live-action feature-length Hindi film. 
    5. Vikas Bahl’s Shaandaar  © Dharma Productions
    Known for his slice of life, closer to reality films like Chillar Party and Queen, Vikas Bahl decided to go the Karan Johar way and directed a lavish entertainer about rich people. 

    Shaandaar starring Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Pankaj Kapur was a huge flop. With that, he went back to his roots and delivered success in Super 30.

    Akshay Kumar is one of the fittest stars in the country and is always advocating fitness. The actor recently was in a video where he is talking about fitness and its importance. A sentence he spoke in the video has triggered a lot of people and angered them as well. “A person who cannot give one hour to his own body from the twenty-four hours in a day is better off dead… kill yourself." The “kill yourself" part is spoken in English and has caused some outrage on social media. While it drew flak, some were of the opinion that the video had been taken out of context. In a longer version of the video, also shared by a Twitter user, the actor can be heard urging people to take fitness seriously. He says one could participate in crossfit; if not that, one could walk. He adds, “agar kuch nahi karoge, toh maroge" (“if you do nothing, you’re sure to die") he says.

    Actor Radhika Apte is not only known for her unconventional, brilliant roles, she is also known for never mincing her words when it comes to saying things, and she happily stays away from being politically correct. The actor was last seen in ok computer in 2021 has been missing in action. She has also starred in several films down South but her experience in Tollywood was not great.  Back in 2018 when she appeared on a chat show, she opened up about her foul experience.

    “My first day in a Telugu film. There is a scene where I am lying (down), because I am unwell. There are a lot of people; everything is set. And the (male) actor walks in – and we’ve been rehearsing – he walks in… I don’t even know him, and he starts tickling my feet!” she further elaborated, “He was a big actor… I was told he is powerful. But [the person] who I am, I got up and I snapped at him in front of everybody – the whole crew, the junior artists, everybody. And I looked at him and said, “don’t ever, ever do that to me.” I was so angry, I told him “ever, ever!”. He was so shocked, because he didn’t expect that. But he never touched me again.”


    She also spoke about gender disparity in Tollywood and exclaimed that there is a big difference in how an actress is treated vs how an actor is treated. We wonder who she is talking about though?

    The entertainment world is abuzz with Hrithik Roshan’s pictures and videos with rumoured GF Saba Azad are going viral on the internet. While some fans are elated that the actor has probably found love all over again, some are trolling them for their age gap.

    Saba Azad is a musician and a singer as well, besides being an actor, and is currently seen on Rocket Boyz. While no one knows if Hrithik and Saba will acknowledge the relationship, onlookers feel something is surely on between them. The actress was previously in a relationship with Imaad Shah, son of veteran actors Naseeruddin Shah and Ratna Pathak Shah. The two were also supposedly in a live-in relationship.

    While they may have called it quits, it looks like the two did share a great chemistry, atleast that’s what we fathom from this short movie they did together for Netlfix. The short film is titled Will You Be My Quarantine, and follows two people who hook up for a one-night stand that turns into a house arrest.

    When you are a superstar like Allu Arjun, it is only natural to get immense amounts of love and criticism in equal measure. The fans who love an actor for his work and his reciprocation towards them, sometimes also get hurt when they get affected by his work. Something similar happened with the Pushpa star, who is responsible for all of dancing to Srivalli and mouthing ‘Thaggedele’ non-stop these days.  The actor starred in the latest advertisement for a food delivery app and well, what was supposed to be jocular entertainment, turned out to be offensive for his fans.

    The advertisement is supposed to be a spoof on how movies down South are made apparently. The video has Allu punching some goons, when one of them asks if he could make him fall faster. Allu jokingly replies:  “It’s south cinema. This is how we do it.” The goon replies that he is craving Gongura Mutton and the restaurant will close by the time he falls on the floor. Allu Arjun replies , “Gongura Mutton or anything else, Zomato is there for you”. The ad ends with his Pushpa dialogues and his famous gestures. “Manasu korithe, thaggedele (when your heart desires, don’t just settle)”.  While a lot of people have enjoyed his ad, some fans are angry and feel that he should have been more responsible.
