It’s a sad day for the whole country as one of its greatest icons, legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, left for her heavenly abode at the age of 92.
Not just India, her fans from all across the globe are in a deep state of grief and agony. In a career spanning over five decades, the iconic singer gave voice to around 30,000 songs in 36 different languages.
Deeply saddened to hear about the demise of Lata ji. Her melodious songs touched millions of people around the world. Thank you for all the music and the memories. My deepest condolences to the family & the loved ones.

She ruled the Indian music industry for many decades and naturally her demise left a huge void in the Indian cinema. Her songs were not the only reason why people loved her. Mageshkar was an amazing human being who always helped those in need.
Not just the Indian cinema, her demise is a big blow to Indian cricket as well. She was one of the biggest fans of Indian cricket and always wished well for the team.

The BCCI is the world’s most powerful cricket board and the Indian players are among the world’s richest athletes but the situation was not always like this, especially in the 1980s.
Back then, the board didn’t have funds to reward its players who had returned home after winning the 1983 World Cup. The board’s hands were tied due to lack of funds and it was then that the board officials decided to approach Mangeshkar because they knew how much she loved cricket.

The board officials approached the singing legend and explained their predicament and asked her if she could do a concert at New Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium free of charge.
Mangeshkar gave her consent almost immediately. The whole stadium was packed to the T and the board was able to make a handsome collection through ticket sales.

The board that used to pay its players a daily allowance of just over 2,000 was able to hand each of the 14 players a reward of Rs 1 lakh each, all thanks to Lata ji’s generosity.
It might not sound that big of an amount in today’s terms but back then it was a huge sum. Just to put into perspective, the maximum amount the players could earn in the whole month during a tour was Rs 60,000.

“It was a very decent sum in those days. We would otherwise save up tour money and daily allowance for that month and it came to barely Rs 60,000,” Sunil Valson, who was part of India’s World Cup winning squad, told PTI.
“I remember some people said we will give you Rs 5000, some said Rs 10,000 and it was very disrespectful at times. But then Lata ji sang in that concert. What a function it was and one of the most memorable evenings to watch her sing live,” Valson added.

What Lata Mageshkar did was a great gesture and the BCCI knew that without her they wouldn’t have been able to avoid this embarrassment.
Since then, the BCCI always had two VIP tickets reserved for her at all the venues where India played an international match. This continued till she breathed her last.

There was no greater well-wisher of Indian cricket than Lata Mangeshkar and as a mark of respect the Indian players came out wearing black armbands during the first ODI against the West Indies.
“Meri awaaz hi pehchaan hai, gar yaad rahe…”. This song is what every Indian is thinking right now. She might not be around us anymore but she is immortal in our hearts through her melodious voice.

When Ranbir Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai came together for Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, they literally took our breath away. Its only natural when two super good looking and super talented actors come on-screen, you are bound to notice them in awe. Everyone was surprised with their intimate scenes, which were beautifully shot and suited the aesthetic palette of the movie in every way.

Ranbir was often asked about his experience on working with one of the most beautiful women in the world, and every time his replies have been in the tone of a start struck teenager. If doesn’t matter if he is himself an established star and has people crushing over him, after all he is a normal guy who will feel lucky to share screen space with Aishwarya. However, it was rumoured that some of his words, which were spoke in a light hearted way maybe, drew flak and upset the Bachchan family as well. In one interview, he said “ sharam aati thi, mere haath shiver hote the. Kabhi kabhi main unke gaal ko touch karne mein jijhakta tha. Phir unhone bola ‘Listen what’s wrong with you? We’re acting, do it properly.’ Phir maine socha, kabhi aisa mauka milega nahi, so maine bhi mauke pe chauka maar diya”.

According to an Asian Age report, his words didn’t go down well with the family. “There are four very professional actors in the Bachchan family, and they know what professionalism is all about. There's absolutely no objection to whatever scenes contained in the film. But why is Ranbir making these embarrassing comments about hitting 'mauke pe chauka?” a source claimed.  Ranbir later even clarified the whole situation and cleared the air of misunderstanding. “Aishwarya is such a superb actor and also a family friend. She's one of India's most talented and respected women. I will be forever grateful to her for her contribution to Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. I could not have disrespected her like that” he said. Ae Dil Hai Mushkil starred Ranbir Kapoor, Aishwaya Rai, Anushka Sharma and Fawad Khan in lead roles.

Rohit Sharma, who is also India's new white-ball skipper, was selected as the new Test vice-captain in December and is the favourite to succeed Virat Kohli as the new Test captain. On Saturday, Rohit discussed his chances of becoming India's all-format captain.
Kohli stood down from his position as India's captain last month, a day after India's 2-1 Test series loss in South Africa. While the cricketing world was stunned by the surprise news, three names emerged as prospective successors to Kohli.
    Courage, Passion, Grit & Determination!

    Thank you, @imVkohli! #TeamIndia pic.twitter.com/q36KXhiJac
    — BCCI (@BCCI) January 15, 2022
As Rohit Sharma remained the top choice because of his recent promotion to vice-captaincy in the red-ball format and his expertise, many others favoured KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant as the future leaders of the team once names like Sharma and Kohli retire and build sustainability within the squad for a long time.
On the eve of his maiden assignment as India's full-time ODI captain, Rohit remarked of his Test leadership responsibilities, "There's time for that. My focus is on limited-overs cricket. Workload management is important. I am not thinking too far ahead."
    View this post on Instagram
Ricky Ponting, a former Australian captain, has previously pushed Rohit to take over the captaincy, reminding supporters of his success with the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
"I think the proof is in the pudding with what he has done at the Mumbai Indians since that moment on. He has been a very successful leader there and has been when he has led India on a few occasions as well. If I go back to what I said at the start about being on top of your game when you take over a captaincy role, then it is pretty hard to argue after what he has done with his Test cricket in the last 2-3 years. He has played as well as anybody in the world through that period of time, and we know how good he is as a white-ball player," Ponting told ICC website.

Rohit Sharma believes that there is no reason to worry ahead of the ODI series against South Africa, which begins on February 6 in Ahmedabad. India is coming off a 3-0 whitewash by South Africa and Rohit believes that the series setback last month was a tremendous learning experience for the Indian side.
The next Test series that the Men in Blue are scheduled for starts in the final week of February as the Sri Lankan side tour India for a two-match red-ball series followed by three T20Is.
    View this post on Instagram
Sharma is having a decent start to his first ODI as the full-time white-ball captain so far as he won the toss and his bowlers managed to dismiss three of the West Indies’ top batters Shai Hope, Brandon King and Darren Bravo for just 45 runs.
Currently, Team India is sitting at the number four spot in the ICC’s world rankings behind New Zealand, England and Australia in the first, second and third places respectively.

Becoming the captain of the Indian cricket team is a tricky business. If you lie and get caught, you are up for some major social media judgement and a lifetime of trolling and criticism, whereas if you become completely honest about your views on the current situation of the squad, you can be called insecure, incertain and incompetent, even though you really have gotten the chance to prove yourself.
For Rohit Sharma, the newly crowned white-ball captain of the Men in Blue, his honesty about the probable future of the team has already exposed him in some kind of social media judgements even before he got to captain the side in the first of three ODI matches against the touring West Indies team.
    View this post on Instagram
Ahead of the first ODI at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Sharma confessed that there might be a possibility that during his initial days as the Indian captain, the team would continue to lose a few more series.
Rohit Sharma (on the possibility of getting Test captaincy) said,"There's time for that. My focus is on limited overs cricket. Workload management is important. We could lose a few series because we need to keep changing players, but we're ready for that.#RohitSharma | #INDvWI pic.twitter.com/jgdI5QiiJU
    — Rohit Sharma Fanclub India (@Imro_fanclub) February 5, 2022
The reason ‘Hitman’ gave for such a thought process was that the squad was still experimenting with the final roster, and there is a “need” to continuously change the players in the team either willingly or unwillingly (for instance because of the players contracting the COVID-19 virus).
Rohit Sharma: We could lose a few series because we need to keep changing players, but we're ready for that
Upcoming Series: West Indies, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan #CricketTwitter
    — Sushant Mehta (@SushantNMehta) February 5, 2022
However, Sharma’s logical explanation was looked down upon as an excuse and he was branded as an “insecure captain” who lacks belief and does not trust his own teammates’ potential of winning matches.
What makes the scenario even worse for the skipper is that the Men in Blue are scheduled to play against some of the easier teams in the near future as compared to the teams they had played just before he assumed the position of the leader. The upcoming series during which Sharma is confirmed to be the captain of the squad consists of playing against the West Indies, followed by Sri Lanka and Afghanistan in March.

    — Utsav Agrawal (@UtsavAg93016471) February 5, 2022That's a negative approach. Moreover, announcing that we will keep changing players will make the newcomers insecure. None can express with the fear of failure. We need to find talented players and back them even if he fails a few initial matches. This is wht MSD did with Rohit.

    — Milan Mahanty (@MilanViratian) February 5, 2022At the moment, the Indian cricket team is ranked fourth in ODIs whereas the West Indies, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan are ranked eighth, ninth and tenth, respectively. In T20Is, the Men in Blue are only second to England whereas Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and the Windies are ranked at the seventh, eighth and tenth spots respectively.

Season 1 of Shark Tank India swept people across the country with a craze that hadn’t been seen before. And while the first season ended a couple of days back, the series came with its highs and lows, enough for us to still be talking about it.
    © Twitter
While there were many entrepreneurs and engineers who impressed the Sharks and us with their revolutionary ideas, there were some who left us with more questions than answers.

Here are some of the weirdest pitches from Shark Tank India that have honestly left us scratching our heads, echoing Ashneer’s words  - “Bhai Kya Kar Raha Hai Tu”?
    © Sony Liv
    1. Poo De Cologne Poo de cologne almost managed to impress the Sharks before they were politely rejected by the panel collectively as they believed the product didn’t have the legs to work in the Indian market, at least not in its current form.
    © Twitter
    2. Tween In One A two-in-one dress isn’t really a ground-breaking invention, however, Tween In One missed the mark by having garments that greatly suffered in the fashion department. They might want to get a designer on board before their next pitch.
    View this post on Instagram
    3. Sippline We felt second-hand embarrassment when Sippline was being pitched to the Sharks. The product was touted as a ‘must-have’ in a post-Covid world where everyone’s trying to be safe and careful with their hygienic practices. It’s basically a protective plastic cover that can be attached to the side of one’s glass. But as expected, it didn’t take much time for the entire thing to come down like a house of cards, with Ashneer and Aman being the first of the sharks to opt-out of the pitch. And we don’t blame them for not wanting to invest in solving a problem that barely exists in the place.
View this post on Instagram4. Green Protein Ashneer raised alarms around the black currant being too sugary, or “poori cheeni” as he said, while Aman just couldn’t get himself to down the glass he was served, making faces even.

    5. Gol Nabhi Hands down the weirdest pitch of the lot has to be the Gol Nabhi by Shrawani Engineers from Nagpur. It was so weird that we can’t even blame the judges for containing their amusement either. And the belly dance or whatever it was only made the whole experience stranger.
Which of these products did you find the weirdest? Let us know in the comments.

An Indian wicketkeeper hitting a six over long-on to finish off the World Cup final in style. Thinking about this, what’s the first thought that comes to your mind? The legendary MS Dhoni right?
Dhoni sealed it with a six...six years ago, on this day, India reclaimed the World Cup after 28 long years. Memories for a lifetime. Proud. pic.twitter.com/TBvuiAboS0

After all, it was his shot that helped us clinch the 2011 ODI World Cup and ended our 28-year-long World Cup drought. It’s a shot that has a special place in the hearts of every Indian cricket fan.

But why are we talking about Dhoni’s six all of a sudden, you may ask. Well that’s because on Saturday another wicketkeeper from India made us the world champions, copying the same template – a six over long-on.

The similarities between Dhoni and Bana’s World Cup-winning six struck an immediate chord with the fans and they flooded the social networking sites with their congratulatory messages.
Not just fans, even the International Cricket Council (ICC) posted an edited video, merging the two iconic sixes that helped India clinch the World Cup trophy.

Taking to Instagram, the ICC captioned the video as: “Where have we seen this ending before? #U19CWC.”
The video starts with Bana launching a low full toss over long-on but as soon the ball meets his bat, it transitions quickly into Dhoni’s iconic six off Sri Lanka’s Nuwan Kulasekara on April 02, 2011 at the jam-packed Wankhede Stadium.

The video ends by showing both the shots simultaneously in split screen. The Indian fans simply loved the amazing edit and lauded the ICC’s social media team for putting out an amazing video, totally worthy of the occasion.

Soon there were loads of comments as Indian cricket fans praised the ‘dope edit’ from the world cricket’s governing body and thanked the ICC for making them relive the memory which is etched in their hearts forever.

As the game of cricket slowly diversifies, it is refreshing to see how its fans are evolving as well. It wasn’t too long ago when a player who wasn’t comfortable talking in English was looked down upon by the viewers of the sport as inferior, even if he was the best player on the field and was dominating each one of their opposing side’s bowlers.
The idea was that if the player did not understand or speak in English, he wasn’t any good during interviews and was therefore not “marketable”. This notion, along with hundreds of other disappointing tropes has gotten lost to the cricket fanbase that is truly becoming global with time.

The captain of the U19 Indian cricket team, Yash Dhull, who led the squad to win the record-breaking 5th championship title - the most number of U19 World Cups any country has won in international cricket, is one of the first players to be wholeheartedly accepted by the cricketing community for making it evident that he wasn’t comfortable responding to questions in England and instead choosing to be his real self and giving answers in Hindi.
After the Boys in Blue won the final match by four wickets, the Man of the Match, Raj Bawa and skipper Dhull were invited for quick conversations with Welsh cricket commentator and former English county cricketer, Alan Wilkins.
    View this post on Instagram
Both the young lads decided to patiently listen to Wilkins’ questions in English before responding in Hindi. Watching the rare yet incredible interaction take place between the two worlds managed to impress the Indian fans were backed Dhull and Bawa a hundred per cent and raved about it all over the internet for the people to know that this is the new India - the one that does not care about what other people think and proves its worth by simply being great.
Yash Dhull and Raj Bawa's replies in Hindi to Alan Wilkins questions in English ... One of the best moments of the final!!

    — Sandeep Budhiraja (@sandy_budhiraja) February 5, 2022Within the current senior team of Indian cricketers, one of the biggest names to headline the roster, Ravindran Jadeja is another one of those proud cricketers who are absolutely fine responding in Hindi to the questions that have been asked in English.
The idea is not to disrespect the people asking questions but to highlight that not being comfortable with a foreign language shouldn’t be looked down upon as a weakness. We have seen players like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo who prefer to speak in their respective mother tongues all the time and nobody calls them weak, why shouldn’t that be the case for our own athletes?
