Even if we don’t admit it, most people partake in daily discrimination against domestic workers, garbage men, delivery boys that work for us every day.
From separate utensils for the housemaid to forbidding the garbage man to enter the premises, we have seen these things happening around us, even if we are not the ones doing it.
© iStock
Something similar sparked a debate on Twitter recently.
An IAS officer shared a picture on Twitter from a building where there was a notice put up, warning the helping staff including maids, drivers and delivery boys to not use the main lift or else a fine of Rs. 300 would be imposed.
He wrote in the caption, “We’re in 2022”, calling out the regressive and discriminatory rule in the building (it’s not clear whether it’s a residential or corporate building).
© Twitter/Awanish Sharan
However, people on social media were left divided. While some said this was discriminatory and wrong, others cited Covid protocols and how some buildings have a separate service lift for the service staff so that there isn’t congestion and inconvenience for the residents.
© iStock
Here is what they have to say about the notice:
Sir, the main purpose of this kind of arrangement is ready availability of lift for residents and decongestion of the lift. Normally, all such societies nowadays have couple of separate lifts for all useful services and supplies.
— Suraj Singh Parihar IPS (@SurajSinghIPS) January 13, 2022In every building there is one main lift and other is fire lift or secondary lift. To curb spread of covid this is good exercise. This is COVID APPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR. though such is not the case in my building. Don't spread hatred.
— हितेंद्र पेठकर (@hitendra25) January 13, 20222022 or 2220
No matter what,
Such discrimination would always be there.
Humans seek reasons to do such discrimination
In name of race, colour, cast, class, religion.
Everyone thinks his/her blood is more pure.https://t.co/pUeJGTDqUF
— Manish Sisodiya (@manish_sisodiya) January 13, 2022A lot is wrong. Obviously corona be a good excuse but without corona ever, this system was always in place. This is the British mentality that persists. U can have service lift but the purpose of it is not to allow only certain sections.
— Som Bharatiya Dash (@SomBharatiya) January 13, 2022Yes sir but still trapped in 1900 mind set..
— David Das (@David_Das_) January 13, 2022This is a private service. Only government is not allowed to discriminate based on profession.
— Paarth (@errjun7) January 13, 2022 It surprises us that people are defending it.
As far as Covid protocols are concerned, there should be proper sanitisation and social distancing in lifts but asking someone to not use a facility based on their class and occupation citing Covid fear is wrong on all levels and not justifiable at all.
© iStock
However you see it, discriminatory or simply a management rule to keep the main lift unoccupied, imposing a fine on helping staff isn’t fair. And, if the building isn’t providing a separate service lift and is asking maids, drivers and delivery boys to use the stairs (since it’s not clear from the notice), it’s highly condemnable.

On January 13, Jason Momoa took to Instagram and shared a note announcing divorce with his wife and actor Lisa Bonet. The two met in 2005 and started dating soon after. After over a decade of courtship, they got married in 2017.
As soon as the news of their divorce was announced, a section of people started blaming Jason Momoa’s Game of Thrones co-star Emilia Clarke for it. Referring to the pictures that the two actors shared on their Instagram accounts back in August 2021, people started calling her a “homewrecker”.

A comment on Instagram read, “This was posted August 2021, and has nothing to do with their divorce, my goodness! It’s January 2022!” Another stated, “So @emilia_clarke is a HOMEWRECKER now?”
Amidst the backlash that was uncalled for, fans came out in support of the actress and called people out for blaming her for the divorce.
One user tweeted, “if you read about jason momoa's separation and your first thought is how it relates to emilia clarke then go straight to hell thanks and leave her out of it”.
Another defended her saying, “Please exclude Emilia Clarke from this Jason Momoa/Lisa Bonet situation. She has been in a long term happy relationship with this ugly yt man so stop this homewrecker theory. Thank you and have a great day”.

A third tweet read, “emilia clarke just minding her business yet is being dragged into this divorce drama.this is why i hate those blind item things because people treat them like gospel (despite there being no proof of legitimate source to back them up) and use them justify attacking people”.

Virat Kohli is been called out by former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra for not behaving in the right manner after he started throwing a tantrum and intentionally yelling at stump mics on Day 3 of the third and final Test of the India-South Africa series on Thursday.
Dean Elgar, the captain of South Africa, was trapped by Ravichandran Ashwin with an LBW until DRS came to the batter's relief. Elgar was batting on 22 when Ashwin struck his pads and to the naked eye, it appeared very evident that the Protea skipper's time in the middle was up.
After Elgar's DRS turned down out looking decision, Kohli lost his calm & delivered few harsh words "Focus on your team as well when they shine the ball eh, not just the opposition, trying to catch people all the time. oh, I wonder how many times they’re gonna show that" #INDvSA pic.twitter.com/8s1iNaMutt
— Ahmad Haseeb (@iamAhmadhaseeb) January 13, 2022
The ball tracking, on the other hand, revealed an unusual bounce and indicated that it was travelling above the stumps. Soon after the verdict, Indian fielders were perplexed and questioned the technology's monitoring.
Kohli was enraged by the decision as well, and to vent his disgust, he rushed straight to the stumps and yelled, "Focus on your team as well and not just the opposition."
Kohli - "I wonder how much times they are going to show that" - when spike showed of Elgar.
— Johns. (@CricCrazyJohns) January 13, 2022
Former India Test opener Aakash Chopra expressed his thoughts on Kohli's on-field antics, saying that the outburst might have been due to the heat of the moment, but warned the India skipper that it was not the appropriate thing to do.
"Of course at the heat of the moment, you are agitated, you're frustrated because even while looking at the screen I was bewildered 'how did it actually miss' because it looked like crashing onto the stump," Chopra said on Star Sports.

— Sagar (@Cricfastnews) January 12, 2022
“If you look at Dean Elgar's face expression after he was told he is not-out, there was a sheepish smile. 'Okay, did I just get out of jail because even I thought I was out.' Because the DRS was taken more in hope and less in believe," he added.
However, Chopra was eager to point out that this was not the right thing to do since it may influence how the youngsters watching the sport saw the umpires or the technology.
Ok Ok.. This is getting tense and hot out there.. Elgar trapped LBW… Erasmus gave it OUT!! but hawkeye shows its going over.. Kohli kicks the turf in disgust.. Ashwin goes near stump mic and says don’t do that supersport… Kohli goes near the stump pic & tells something #IndvSA pic.twitter.com/RWKRd37Lg4
— Anurag Sinha (@anuragsinha1992) January 13, 2022
"You have a right to perhaps voice your decision but is that the right manner. I'm not 100 percent certain because as Morne Morkel (co-panelist) pointed there are lots and lots of kids watching the game and they may actually form an opinion about the DRS, umpires," added Chopra.
Meanwhile, former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar did his best to justify Kohli’s actions by saying that even he felt as if the ball would have hit the stumps, or at the very least, knick the bails which would have meant that it would have been the umpire’s call (which was originally out).

Elgar and Keegan Petersen (48 batting) put on an important 88-run partnership for the second wicket on day three, chasing 212, before the skipper was bowled by Jasprit Bumrah to end the day on a hopeful note for the Men in Blue. South Africa currently needs 111 runs, conversely, India needs to take 8 wickets to win the Test and the series.

Technology has become a major part of modern-day cricket. But sometimes the technology, put in place to eliminate howlers and make the game more transparent, ends up causing a huge mess.
That’s what happened on Day 3 of the third and the final Test match between India and South Africa in Cape Town. The Indian players were left fuming after the Proteas skipper Dean Elgar was able to overturn the on-field LBW decision against him with the help of the Decision Review System.
pic.twitter.com/00dPXQv8sK
— Addicric (@addicric) January 13, 2022
After the decision was overturned, Virat Kohli and his teammates felt cheated and lashed out at the official broadcasters SuperSport, accusing them of rigging their ball-tracking algorithm to benefit the South African captain.
When the TV umpire ruled in the hosts’ favour, the look on Elgar’s face clearly showed that even he was surprised that he was ruled not out. It was evident that he had challenged the on-field more in hope than in belief.
The bounce of the pitch - a significant factor in Dean Elgar's successful review.#SAvIND pic.twitter.com/GI2rXjgjwd
— SuperSport (@SuperSportTV) January 13, 2022
In fact, after watching the replay on the big screen Elgar was convinced that his time was up and he started to walk back because that’s how plumb it looked to the naked eye or even on the replay.
But the ball-tracking presented a completely different picture and showed that the ball would have gone on to miss the stumps by a whisker, which led to some harsh comments from some of the Indian players.
Peeved with the decision, Kohli walked straight to the stump mic and took a dig at the official broadcasters and accused them of cheating in the broad daylight.
"Fcuking camera team"
"Supersport is a joke"
"focus on your team as well as they shine the ball eh not just the opposition. trying to catch people all the time"
Kohli is angry as hell pic.twitter.com/KYFyM8BUPP
— S (@kollyscharm) January 13, 2022
“Focus on your team as well when they shine the ball, eh! Not just the opposition. Trying to catch people all the time,” Kohli was heard yelling in the stump mic.
“It's the whole country against 11 guys,” the vice-captain KL Rahul was heard shouting in the background.
Ravichandran Ashwin, who felt he was hard done by the dubious ball-tracking algorithm, walked up to the stump mic and slammed the official broadcasters.
@ashwinravi99 - "Uv gotto find better ways to win supersport"
That didn't look like it was going to miss the stumps.#SAvsIND pic.twitter.com/0VczdHodtA
— Pradeep Muthu (@muthupradeep) January 13, 2022
The veteran off-spinner directly accused the official broadcasters of helping the home side using unfair means and said: “You should find better ways to win, SuperSport.”
Not just the Indian players, even the veteran umpire Marais Erasmus, who had raised his finger and adjudged Elgar out, couldn’t believe it when he was asked to overturn his original decision by the TV umpire.
pic.twitter.com/MRnPViICuL
— Addicric (@addicric) January 13, 2022
“That is impossible,” Erasmus was heard saying on the stump mic, while changing his original call.
This was not the first time the questions were raised over the DRS accuracy. During the series opener, Mayank Agarwal was given out in a controversial fashion. The ball had hit him high on the pad and the on-field umpire ruled in his favour.
#SAvIND
WICKET! Mayank Agarwal walking back after South Africa got their review right after the umpire gave it not out initially. The opener made a fine 60. SA have their breakthrough.
Ind 117/1 pic.twitter.com/gkX3FZOTBt
— The Field (@thefield_in) December 26, 2021
However, to everyone’s surprise, Agarwal was adjudged out by the TV umpire after the ball-tracking hinted that the ball would have gone on to crash into the stumps.
There is no doubt the use of technology has eliminated the umpiring howlers to a great extent. But every now and then, we come across dubious decisions like these which makes us question the relevance of technology.

Shahid Kapoor has come a long way in his cinematic career and has seen all sorts of ups and downs. He might have had a connection in the industry as his father Pankaj Kapur had done quite a number of projects but he had no support. He started from being a background dancer and it was a gradual rise for the actor. Cut to 2021, Shahid is one of the bankable stars of Bollywood and has made quite a fortune for himself.
Shahid Kapoor and Mira Rajput, who live with their kids in Juhu, also invested in a plush apartment in Worli in 2018. As per reports, Shahid had shelled out Rs 56 crore for the 427.98 square meter property. Their new house in Mumbai’s Worli has been under construction for over a year now.
View this post on Instagram
The two have already shown a few glimpses of their home in the past but their interior designer Annkur Khosla shared a small video tour of their patio and you can see the entire Mumbai’s skyline from their house. It’s breathtakingly beautiful.

In the past, Mira and Shahid also have shown their new house through their Instagram stories and videos.
Here’s a glimpse:

We can’t wait to see the house when it’s fully constructed. But before that, we would like to tell you about a few things about their new abode:
1: The plush duplex occupies the 42nd and 43rd floors of the high-rise Three Sixty West.

2: Speaking to DNA in an interview earlier, Shahid Kapoor shared the details of his new home and said: "I have bought a new home in Central Mumbai. It will be a year-and-a-half, perhaps even two, before we do the interiors and move in there. The new home that Mira and I have booked has a garden and other amenities like a gymnasium, etc. Today, our requirement is having a safe place for Misha where she can play with others. We want her to be with kids of her age because that's how she will have a regular childhood."
View this post on Instagram
3: The floors are spread across 427.98 square meter and 300.48 square meters including a balcony of 40.88 square meter.
4: Interestingly, the apartment comes armed with six parking spots for their fleet of cars and bikes and is a part of a luxury apartments venture managed by Ritz Carlton as per a GQ report.
5: Speaking with ETimes, the Jersey actor said, “Ah! We hope to move to it soon. In fact, if all goes well, then it would be this year itself.” Commenting on why he wants to shift, Shahid said, “We needed more space for our kids (Misha and Zain). We really liked the house we saw. It had a great vibe. It’s a bigger space than what we have right now. The kids are growing up and they will need this kind of space. Right now, everything in my house is my kids’ space. Mira and I need our space, too. With passing time, making more room for the family is extremely important. Family adrak ki tarah hoti hai, failti rehti hai. It grows and that feels wonderful. And as it grows, you have to be able to accommodate it with all its increasing needs.”

On the work front, Shahid Kapoor will be next seen in Jersey, a remake of a hit Telugu film. Jersey is the official adaptation of Nani’s 2019 sports drama film of the same name.

Recently, a video of Ajay Devgn had gone viral on social media where was seen visiting the Sabarimala Temple in Kerala while dressed in traditional black attire.
Now, according to a report in TOI, Ajay Devgn followed a number of rituals before his Sabarimala Temple visit. These include wearing black for days leading up to the visit, sleeping on a chatai etc.

Another source added, “For 11 days, he slept on a chatai on the floor, wore black, did the Ayyappa Pooja twice a day, ate only vegetarian food without any garlic/onion, walked barefoot wherever he went, didn’t use any perfume and did not have any alcohol”.

Virat Kohli rarely tries to hide his emotions even when the cameras are on him. It is his in-your-face attitude that, more often than not, becomes the topic of discussion after a gruelling contest.
The same was the case on Day 3 of the India vs South Africa Test series decider when a DRS call went against the visitors.
Ravichandran Ashwin had beaten Dean Elgar and rapped him on the pads. The on-field umpire Marais Erasmus gave the South Africa captain out but after discussing with his partner, Elgar decided to challenge the decision.
Replays showed that the ball would have bounced over the stumps and seeing that on the big screen, left Kohli livid.
Virat Kohli was furious when DRS overruled an lbw decision against Dean Elgar. #SAvIND pic.twitter.com/LI7RkdiNuk
— SA Cricket Magazine (@SACricketmag) January 13, 2022
The India captain lost his cool and expressed his disappointment by venting his frustration on the stump mic, having a go at the broadcasters.
"Focus on your team as well when they shine the ball eh, not just the opposition. Trying to catch people all the time," Kohli was caught fuming near the stump mic.
While Kohli's way of showing his frustration over a contentious call remains debatable, the manner in which the Indian skipper and his teammates, including Ashwin and KL Rahul, reacted to the whole incident didn't sit well with some fans on social media.
KL Rahul was heard saying "whole country playing against 11 guys." While Ashwin said "you should find better ways to win Supersport."

Former India batter Gautam Gambhir too was against the way Kohli let his emotions get the better of him and said that with such behaviour on the field, he can never be an idol for the younger generation.
"Kohli is very immature. It’s worst for an Indian captain to say like this in stumps. By doing this you will never be an idol to youngsters," Gambhir was quoted as saying on Star Sports.
Bad form by Kohli & Co to contest DRS decision v Elgar. There are shortcomings in such technology, but others can also dig up decisions that have gone in your favour. Truth is India batted poorly, SA bowled & batted superbly today which is why match is in the situation it is
— Cricketwallah (@cricketwallah) January 13, 2022India have got carried away since that DRS went Elgar’s favour. Lack of leadership here. Pivotal passage, too many runs conceded. #SAvInd
— Chetan Narula (@chetannarula) January 13, 2022Honestly disappointed by the kind of reaction shown by few Indian players. Yes DRS was wrong but didn’t like that ! #INDvSA
— Vikram Sathaye (@vikramsathaye) January 13, 2022India are an incredible team but Kohli, Ashwin and KL embarrassed themselves a bit today. I was surprised by the DRS verdict but accusations of a conspiracy were pretty ridiculous.
— Ben (@LongyWTID) January 13, 2022How bad was Kohli's reaction to DRS drama. Speaking into the stump mic, suggesting broadcasters were cheating, sledging his counterpart for no fault of his. If he is frustrated at an impending loss he should start making better selection calls. Elgar decision didn't swing match
— Gaurav Bagaria (@twiteravbagaria) January 13, 2022India finally managed to get Elgar out just before Stumps on Day 3 as the Proteas skipper was caught down the leg side by Rishabh Pant off Jasprit Bumrah.
The on-field decision, in this case, was not out but India went upstairs and there was a spike as the ball passed Elgar's bat and went into the hands of Pant.
Kohli was overjoyed with the decision and was seen having another go at the broadcasters.

The captain of the Indian cricket team in Test cricket, Virat Kohli is known to be an aggressive player and is never the one to back down from any kind of fight. He has shown a lot of grit and loyalty while standing up to the opposing sides like the Englishmen and the Australians whenever they’ve tried to get under Kohli or his teammates’ skin.
However, things weren’t quite the same during Day 3 of the third and final Test match of the India-South Africa series in Cape Town when Kohli acted as the aggressor and started commenting and mocking the rival skipper, Dean Elgar.

Kohli can be heard throwing some brutal sledging towards Elgar in one such instance from Day 3, which went viral on Twitter. The Indian skipper attempted to insult the tough Proteas leader by suggesting he is avoiding India's best seamer, Jasprit Bumrah. Kohli didn't stop there, telling the 34-year old batter that he has been doing this for the last 13 years and reminding him of India's previous visit to South Africa in 2018.

“Unbelievable. Just after a Man of the Match performance in the last game, running from Jasprit...”
"Chirping for 13 years Dean, you think you gonna keep me quiet? We all know who wanted the match called off in Jo'burg 2018. We all know that," the Indian captain’s entire sledging episode was on the stump mic.
"Chirping for 13 years Dean Elgar, you think you can keep me quiet?." - Virat Kohli to Dean Elgar

Normally, Kohli gets a lot of support from the young Indian fans when he starts showing his aggression on the field because he is usually the one who lets his bat do all the talking and only opens his mouth when the other side tries to sledge him first.
However, the skipper got heavily criticised for being the aggressor in this scenario and was called out of showing desperation on the field with such words because he knew that he had not done a good job with the bat and that the dream of winning the first Test series in South Africa was hanging by a thread, despite a convincing victory that they had picked in the first Test.
When you are losing to an inexperience team, it is better to get angry than sledging.

Not much of a chirping fan when facing a tough question during a press conference, is he? These IPL millionaires think they can chirp away breaching ICC code of conducts without consequences? You DON’T want ICC to let stump mics be used as punch bags by all and sundries.

After putting up a below-average total of 212 for the hosts to chase in two and a half days, it was evident that the Indian batting order had failed miserably and if it weren’t for Rishabh Pant’s masterful 100-run knock, the match would have ended on Day 3 itself.
Ahead of Day 4 of the final Test, India needs eight wickets to win the match meanwhile South Africa needs to score just 111 runs more in order to win the third and final match and therefore the series as well.
