The Indian team has emerged as one of the most consistent Test sides in world cricket in the last few years. Apart from being dominant in home conditions, India’s red-ball squad has arguably become the best travelling side in the world after producing some great results in Australia and England.

It was a forgettable year for India in white-ball cricket, with the biggest disappointment being the shocking first-round exit from the T20 World Cup. However, the team did make up for the limited-overs heartbreak in the longest format of the game and registered some memorable victories.

Here are the three most memorable Test triumphs that made the whole country proud
AUS vs IND, 4th Test, Brisbane (Gabba) View this post on Instagram
Australia hadn’t lost a single Test match at this venue since 1988 but their 32-year-long unbeaten streak was brought to an end by a spirited Indian side in January this year. The series was on the line and nobody gave them a chance to create an upset, especially because they were missing several of their first-team players.
It was a complete team performance as different players chipped in at different occasions of the game and got the team out of trouble. However, the biggest talking point was Rishabh Pant who scored an unbeaten 89 in the fourth innings and helped India chase down the massive 328-run total on the final day. India got over the line with three wickets to spare and registered their back-to-back Test series win Down Under, clinching the series 2-1.
ENG vs IND, 2nd Test, Lord’s View this post on Instagram
Winning a Test match at the historic Lord’s Cricket Ground is always a special feeling but things get even more special when the victory comes against all odds. Heading into the final day of the second Test match, hosts England were the favourites to win the match but India’s pace bowling duo of Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah had some other plans. The duo stitched an unbeaten 89-run stand for the ninth wicket and brought India back in the game.
    View this post on Instagram
India declared their innings with 60 overs left in the day’s play and everybody thought the match would end in a draw as nobody saw them getting bowled out inside one-and-a-half sessions. What followed can’t be explained in words as the Indian pacers tormented the English batting line with their brilliant bowling and restricted them for a paltry score of 120 runs in 51.5 overs, thus winning the match by 151 runs.
ENG vs IND, 4th Test, The Oval View this post on Instagram
After losing the Lord’s Test, the hosts made a great comeback and registered a massive innings and 76-run victory in Leeds to level the series at 1-1. But Virat Kohli’s team got back to the winning ways at The Oval and took an invincible 2-1 lead in the five-test series. This victory was special because like the Lord’s Test, the hosts were in a position of strength heading into the Day 5.

Chasing 368 to win, the England openers had added 100 runs for the opening wicket and at that point only two results seemed possible both in England’s favour. However, Indian bowlers once again rose to the occasion and made a great comeback in the final two sessions. From 100 for no loss to 210 all out, it was an incredible bowling effort that summed up India’s whole summer on English soil.

After the dismissal of the captain of the Indian cricket team in the second inning of the first Test match between India and South Africa, pictures of Virat Kohli’s disappointed expressions while inside the dressing room have gone viral on social media.
In two side-to-side pictures, Kohli could be seen leaning against a glass door, staring into oblivion and then lowering his gaze in disappointment, probably thinking about the extremely predictable day in which he was dismissed in the first and the second innings of the match.

    — SeaHawk Updates (@SeaHawkUpdates) December 29, 2021
Ironically, the cover drove, which happens to be one of the most iconic strokes that he plays, has also left him extremely vulnerable to giving away an outside edge and the ball going straight into the hands of the wicket-keeper or one of the men standing at slip.
Many are calling it a force of habit, others say that is it Kohli’s ego getting in the way of him playing a long and steady knock but the fact that the Indian skipper has gotten out the same way for over last three or four series is a bad sign.

And by now, every international squad’s scouting report of Kohli would have this written in big bold letters that the batter can’t resist the urge to just go out of his line to punch the ball for the covers and that’s what international pacers have been luring him to do.
Back in England, it was James Anderson who did it to him on multiple occasions and now in South Africa, it was Marco Jansen and Lungi Ngidi doing the exact same thing and getting the exact same result.

Nobody is asking Kohli to completely give up on stepping out and try all his shots. He is one of the most technically sound cricketers in the world and plays that drive like a master. However, to go for such a tricky move on of the first delivery after lunch break, or even on the very first delivery that he faces, is something that even the fans and analysts have tried but failed to understand.

    — Vedant (@Vedantp13) December 29, 2021Every cricketer, no matter how big of a name his may be, gives himself some time to get comfortable at the strike, settle down a bit with some defensive strokes and then start moving around the turf, hunting for big shots when he sees the opportunity. The urge to go ballistic from the first minute is just not the right approach towards the longest format of the game and Kohli, who is such a Test enthusiast, must realise that.

Indians are really taking over the world!

Listen! I think you really didn't have to tell us that we Indians aren't talented. I mean, for all the bad things that are often said about our high population, one thing is for certain.
We do have a lot of intelligent and massively talented people amongst us, who often have to go through a lot of grinds to actually be recognized worldwide.
Be it actors, sportsmen, businessmen, yoga gurus or tech people, there is really no shortage of big names who are popular worldwide, because of their achievements.
    © Reuters
Now, adding another name to that list would be a name that most of you wouldn't have heard before. (And I say this with no disrespect!)

For all the people who didn't know, after Google and Twitter, Elon Musk's Tesla also has an Indian at the helm of operations in one of the important departments.
    © Youtube/Tesla
Ashok Elluswamy is the one Indian, who now heads the Autopilot Team for Tesla, making him join the likes of other Indians like Sundar Pichai of Google and Parag Agrawal of Twitter.

    © Twitter
    © Twitter/Sundar Pichai
Another important element of this is exactly how Ashok got the job at Tesla. The interesting thing about this is that Elon himself shared this information on Twitter.

    © Reuters
Ashok was actually the first employee to be hired for Tesla's Autopilot team, with Elon actually using Twitter to ask people to apply for the role back in 2015.

Here's what Elon Tweeted back in 2015.
Ramping up the Autopilot software team at Tesla to achieve generalized full autonomy. If interested, contact autopilot@teslamotors.com.
    — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) November 20, 2015
"Ramping up the Autopilot software team at Tesla to achieve generalized full autonomy. If interested, contact autopilot@teslamotors.com." Elon tweeted.
Now, of course, the tech genius must have gotten a lot of applicants for the role considering the grand scale at which Tesla and SpaceX operate, however, it was Ashok who eventually was on the team.
And guess what? I think he's done well for himself since then, going on to become the actual head of the time he was recruited for in the space of six to seven years.
This is what Elon tweeted just recently.
Ashok was the first person recruited from my tweet saying that Tesla is starting an Autopilot team!
    — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) December 29, 2021
"Ashok was the first person recruited from my tweet saying that Tesla is starting an Autopilot team!" Elon tweeted.
Just wow! It's a really proud achievement for Ashok as well as the rest of India. I mean, it's not every day that you get praised like that from a person of Elon's capacity.
What's next? Indians on the moon and Mars?
Stay tuned and we'll give you the updates as and when they come!

Shahid Kapoor’s upcoming film Jersey is keenly awaited as it marks the actor’s return to the big screen after the huge success that was Kabir Singh and also because it is an official remake of National Award-winning Telugu film.
The trailer of the film released last month to positive response and the songs too were received well.
Jersey was carrying a good buzz around it but unfortunately, the film had to be postponed from its December 31 release.
The reason for the sudden postponement of the film is due to the spread of the Omicron variant of coronavirus across the country and the shutting down of theatres in Delhi.
    © Allu Entertainment
A new report has now claimed that after the theatres in Delhi were shut, makers contemplated releasing Jersey straight to OTT but it was Shahid Kapoor who convinced them not to go the OTT route and kept the film in the race for a theatrical release.

The report also claimed that Shahid offered to cover the losses the maker may entail due to the delay in the release by taking a pay cut in his fees for Jersey, which is a huge Rs 31 crore.
A source told Bollywood Hungama, “After the rising Covid cases, the team of Jersey had got a prior intimation that Delhi cinema halls might be shut soon. Hence, they had multiple meetings on the future course of action for the film, since their entire marketing campaign had rolled out and there was not much left to even promote. They had discussion with their digital partner, Netflix, who agreed to pay a premium price for a direct to digital premiere on December 31. The offer was lucrative and the producers were of course inclined to that.”
    © Allu Entertainment
The source continued, “They were almost sure to give the film to Netflix for a premiere since these are uncertain times and Covid will delay the film by at least 1 to 2 months, adding on to the cost and also reducing the hype around the film. They felt, instead of a hike in budget, it's better to let the viewers experience Jersey on OTT. That's when the hero, Shahid Kapoor stepped in. The actor was clear that Jersey deserves a theatrical release. When the makers pointed out the costs, the actor was gracious enough to reduce his remuneration to safeguard the film for theatrical medium.”

Further talking about Shahid offering to take a pay cut, the source added, “Shahid charged Rs. 31 crore for Jersey and without any hesitation, he told the producer that he will reduce his acting fees to the extent of the additional cost that will pile up on the film due to the delay. If the budget escalates by Rs. 5 crore, he will reduce Rs. 5 crore from his fees. If the budget is escalated by Rs. 10 crore, he will let go off Rs. 10 crore from his fees. For him, Jersey is special and he is confident that the audience will fall in love with the world that they have created. The producers were convinced and that's how they decided on delaying the release rather than opting for a direct to digital premiere.”
    © Allu Entertainment
Directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, who also helmed the original Telugu version, Jersey also stars Mrunal Thakur, Ronit Kamra and Pankaj Kapur.

From the remarkable Test series triumph Down Under to impressive victories in England, the Indian cricket team gave us plenty to cheer for throughout the year. But like every year, there were some memories that no fan would want to remember heading into the new year.
Apart from their on-field heroics, the Indian team and cricketers were involved in several controversies off the field in the last 12 months. There was no dearth of off-field drama as some of the biggest names of Indian cricket made headlines for all the wrong reasons.
    View this post on Instagram
Here’s a list of seven biggest controversies that rocked Indian cricket in 2021 and led to huge outrage on social media.
SCG Racism Row View this post on Instagram
The first major controversy of the year happened in the first month of the year itself. Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj was subjected to racist comments from a group of Australian fans on Day 3 of the third Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

A group of six Australian spectators hurled racist abuse towards the Indian pacer who was fielding near the boundary ropes, allegedly calling him “brown dog” and “big monkey”. Instead of ignoring, the 27-year-old pacer brought the incident to the umpires notice after which the fans were removed from the stands.
Expressing their disappointment at the unfortunate incident, Cricket Australia issued an apology and promised strong action against the culprits as they launched an investigation along with the New South Wales Police.

After India lost to New Zealand in the World Test Championship final, the BCCI had granted the players a three-week break to freshen up ahead of a major Test series against England. Every player enjoyed the break in their own way, some travelled around the country while others attended sporting events like Euro 2020 and Wimbledon.
However, it turned into a huge controversy when Rishabh Pant, who had attended a Round of 16 Euro 2020 match between hosts England and Germany on June 30 at Wembley, tested positive for COVID-19 a week later.
    View this post on Instagram
It led to a huge outrage on social media as fans blamed the BCCI for allowing the players to attend large public gatherings. Not just Pant, several support staff members had also tested positive which created a panic among Indian fans and expressed their outrage on social media, bashing the Indian cricket board for being too careless.
Shastri’s Book Launch EventRavi Shastri-Virat Kohli should be questioned harshly by @BCCI with the book launch in UK when ECB didn't acquire clearance.

The fifth and final Test match against England had to be called off in controversial fashion after some of the senior Indian players refused to take the field in Manchester after a COVID-19 breakout within the Indian camp.
Former head coach Ravi Shastri and the majority of his support staff including bowling coach Bharat Arun, fielding coach R Sridhar, physio Nitin Patel had tested positive for the dreaded virus and the series had to be cancelled abruptly.
    View this post on Instagram
After the match was cancelled indefinitely, the Indian fans and English media blamed Shastri’s private book launch event for acting as a super spreader and breaching the biosecure bubble.
After India had won the fourth Test at The Oval against England and took an unassailable 2-1 lead in the five match series, Shastri and several senior members of the Indian team, including Virat Kohli, had attended a book launch event. They were all seen roaming around without any masks and which left the Indian fans fuming.
IPL vs Test Cricket View this post on Instagram
After the first Test against England was called off at the eleventh hour, the English media not just blamed Shastri’s book launch event but also questioned the Indian players’ commitment. Several reports in English media argued that COVID-19 breakout among the Indian contingent had nothing to do with the match cancellation.
The reports further stated that the reason why Indian players withdrew from the series was because they wanted to please their IPL sides by reaching the UAE earlier than expected. There were many who supported this theory while many believed that it was just a ploy to tarnish the image of Indian players and the world’s most popular T20 league.
Leaks Against Kohli View this post on Instagram
The year 2021 could also be remembered as the year which saw several leaks against Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli. After India lost the WTC final, reports had emerged that some of the Indian players weren’t happy with Kohli’s attitude and had complained about his behaviour to the BCCI secretary Jay Shah.
Even before Kohli had announced his resignation from T20I captaincy, the reports of his decision were already out in the media. Months before the BCCI decided to sack him from ODI duties, there were several media reports that created the atmosphere for the same.
Kohli’s Unceremonious Sacking View this post on Instagram
After the BCCI sacked Kohli from the ODI captaincy and handed the white-ball leadership to Rohit Sharma, it led to a huge outrage on social networking sites. Not his sacking, the fans were pissed with the manner in which the BCCI announced the decision.
Instead of releasing a press release, the BCCI announced Rohit’s full-time appointment as India’s ODI skipper in just one line while announcing the Test squad for the South Africa tour. Kohli, who took India’s limited-overs side to great heights during his tenure, was thrown out as if he had done nothing for the Men In Blue. Even after huge public outrage, it took the BCCI’s social media team more than 24 hours to post a thank you message for the former ODI skipper.
Kohli-Ganguly Fallout View this post on Instagram
Perhaps the biggest cricket controversy of the year happened in the last month of the year. The manner in which Kohli was shown the exit door against his will, it convinced many that there was a rift between him and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly but nobody could say anything for sure as none of them had said anything in public.
However, the whole scenario changed after Kohli’s sacking, who made some startling revelations before leaving for South Africa. The Indian Test skipper called out the lies of the BCCI chief during an explosive press conference and the bitterness in their relationship became a public spectacle.

Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah is often in the news over his political views and for passing controversial statements in the public domain. He has now stirred a controversy after he called Mughals 'refugees' and people on social media are pissed with him for his statements.
A video of Naseeruddin Shah is doing rounds on social media, in which he can be heard saying that Mughals have influenced art and culture in India.
In an interview with Karan Thapar of The Wire, he said, "The so-called atrocities of the Mughals are being highlighted all the time. We forget that the Mughals are people who have contributed to the country. They are people who have left lasting monuments in the country, who have left the tradition of dancing, music, painting, literature. Mughals came here to make this their homeland. You can call them refugees if you like.”

A while ago, Shah was in the news for slamming the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan. He also bashed Indian Muslims who were celebrating the rule of the Taliban. In the video, Naseeruddin Shah said, “Even as the Taliban's return to power in Afghanistan is a cause for concern for the whole world, there are celebrations among some sections of Indian Muslims. This celebration of the barbarians is no less dangerous.”

He was bashed for it and in an exclusive interview with NDTV, Shah clarified what he meant by ‘Hindustani (or Indian) Islam’ and also about the rise of propaganda films in Bollywood. He also spoke about how the three Khans have always chosen to stay mum on international or national issues. He told NDTV, “They also being financed, also promised a clean chit if they make movies which are propaganda, to put it bluntly. In Nazi Germany also this was attempted. Filmmakers who were outstanding, world-class, were rounded up and asked to make films propagating the Nazi philosophy. The kind of big-budget films that are coming. The big ones cannot disguise the jingoistic agenda.”
He had added, “It's not an ordinary time. There is an atmosphere of bottled hate just waiting to be released. People are waiting to take offense to anything. If people had listened to my first statement carefully they would have realized there is nothing to get their knickers in a twist about. What I said was perfectly reasonable because the history of the Taliban tells us to be wary, no matter how many promises they may now make for moderation, which I don’t think they will live up to."

It was after Dwayne Johnson joined the Fast & Furious films with Fast Five that the franchise, which was already popular, went to the next level. His and Vin Diesel’s camaraderie received a lot of love from the audience in future instalments like Fast & Furious 6 and Furious 7 as well.
However, while shooting for the eighth instalment in the saga, things fell apart between two leading stars.
Johnson had taken to Instagram in a now-deleted post saying, “Some conduct themselves as stand up men and true professionals, while others don't. The ones that don't are too chicken s**t to do anything about it anyway. Candy asses. When you watch this movie next April and it seems like I'm not acting in some of these scenes and my blood is legit boiling — you're right.”

This post led to one of the most talked-about feuds between two massive stars in Hollywood history. Ever since then, the two have been fighting, making up and fighting again.

After staying out of F9, The Rock had stated in an interview that he will return for the 10 and final instalment. However, earlier this year Vin’s statement about tough love left Dwayne angry and he stated in clear words, he won’t work in Fast & Furious 10.
    © Universal Pictures
Last month, Vin Diesel took to Instagram and made a public plea to The Rock to return to the franchise for the final instalment. Calling Johnson his younger brother, he also talked about how he is “Uncle Dwayne” to his children and taking forward the legacy of Paul Walker.

    View this post on Instagram
Well, it turns out, Dwayne Johnson didn’t think much about this public plea and his firm on his stance on not returning to the franchise. In fact, he went on to slam Diesel calling the public plea “an example of his manipulation”.
He also stated that he didn’t like Vin bringing up Paul Walker’s death and his children in the post.
He told CNN, “I was very surprised by Vin's recent post. This past June, when Vin and I actually connected not over social media, I told him directly - and privately - that I would not be returning to the franchise. I was firm yet cordial with my words and said that I would always be supportive of the cast and always root for the franchise to be successful, but that there was no chance I would return. I privately spoke with my partners at Universal as well, all of whom were very supportive as they understand the problem.”
    © Universal Pictures
Further adding, “Vin's recent public post was an example of his manipulation. I didn't like that he brought up his children in the post, as well as Paul Walker's death. Leave them out of it. We had spoken months ago about this and came to a clear understanding. My goal all along was to end my amazing journey with this incredible Fast & Furious franchise with gratitude and grace. It's unfortunate that this public dialogue has muddied the waters. Regardless, I'm confident in the Fast universe and its ability to consistently deliver for the audience, and I truly wish my former co-stars and crew members the best of luck and success in the next chapter.”

While Dwayne has denied returning to Fast saga, he is still a part of Fast Universe with spin-off Hobbs & Shaw films.

After missing a major part of South Africa’s first innings due to injury, Jasprit Bumrah was yearning to make an impact in the game and it reflected in the way he ran and bowled on the penultimate day of the Boxing Day Test in Centurion.

India’s premier fast bowler made his presence felt in the closing stages of Day 4 and showed why he is rated so highly in world cricket. Chasing a stiff target, the hosts suffered a major blow as Aiden Markram was cleaned up by Mohammed Shami in the second over of the innings.
    Simply sensational from Bumrah

South African skipper Dean Elgar (52* off 122 balls) showed great temperament and kept Indian bowlers at bay from one end. He stitched a decent partnership with Keegan Petersen (17 off 36 balls) for the second wicket. A slight lapse in concentration and the Proteas youngster paid the price in form of his wicket as he poked his bat to a wide delivery and ended up giving a simple catch behind stumps.
By now the ball had stopped swinging and there were no demons in the pitch either, especially after the home side had used a heavy roller before their innings.
A session of solid resilience for marred by Bumrah's twin strikes at the death.

While the majority of the bowlers are effective when the pitch is conducive to their skills and favours their bowling style, the same rule doesn’t apply to Bumrah. The reason why he is widely regarded as one of the best in the business is because of his ability to trouble the batters even when the surface is of little to no assistance.
'Jasprit Bumrah is a captain's delight, delivers when most needed' @DineshKarthik & @7polly7 shower praises on Bumrah, on #CricbuzzChatter #SAvIND pic.twitter.com/0XLyyFz9gz

The 28-year-old speedster proved his worth once again by picking up two quick wickets towards the closing stages of the game. And both these dismissals were a result of his sheer brilliance.
    What a beauty by Jassi...Bumrah......

He first castled Rassie van der Dussen (11 off 65) and provided India with an important breakthrough. Bowling from wide of the crease, Bumrah managed to cut that delivery back in sharply just a fraction bit more which ended up kissing the top of off stump as the batter shouldered his arms.
What a ball, What a yorker, 143 kph and cleans up Maharaj. Bumrah is the King. pic.twitter.com/ityH4HANOB

Not just that, he finished the day with another peach of a delivery, sending South Africa’s night watchman back to the pavilion on the last ball before stumps were called. Famous for his yorkers, Bumrah bowled a toe-crushing delivery which proved too tough to handle for the South African spinner and India ended the day needing only six wickets to win the match and take a 1-0 lead.
    Random Jasprit Bumrah appreciation tweet.

Nothing I can write that you already do not know.

Just feel privileged to be around in the Bumrah era.
    — Abhishek Mukherjee (@SachinAzharCT) (@ovshake42) December 29, 2021Jasprit Bumrah - an absolute artist. And, with all the talk about how T20 can hinder players in Test cricket, illustrates how the very best players bring in T20 skills to enhance their Test game
    — Tim Wigmore (@timwig) December 29, 2021All our cricket fandom suffering has led to the positive karma called Jasprit Bumrah.

No logical way to describe him.

He doesn't celebrate his wickets much. They're inevitable.
    — El Chopernos (@El_Chopernos) December 29, 2021Bumrah has spoilt me so much that I each time he comes up with these magic shows, I have to remind myself: this is not normal.

    — Ashish Magotra (@clutchplay) December 29, 2021having checked this morning, can confirm that the bumrah yorker to maharaj wasn't a dream...merely, a dream delivery#SAvIND
    — Gaurav Kalra (@gauravkalra75) December 30, 2021If not for Bumrah’s twin strikes at the death, the touring party would have been in a much tricky situation going into the final day.
Watching him operate at full tilt is a delight in itself and whoever witnessed him bowl in the final spell of Day 4 fell short of words to describe his sheer class. All we could do was be grateful that we were in the same era where Bumrah ruled the show in world cricket.
