    2021 was the year of hope for a lot of people as the world once again opened up and made progress towards going back to normalcy after being in lockdown for about a year because of the pandemic.  
    As the year comes to an end, let’s look back at all the cricketers who found love and announced it to the world by making things official on social media and allowing the fans to celebrate with them:

    Indian ‘3-D’ player Vijay Shankar decided to tie the knot with his fiancee Vaishali Visweswaran in January 2021 after getting engaged back in August 2020. He was a part of the SunRisers Hyderabad in IPL 2021 before being released ahead of the Mega Auction. 
    2. Jasprit BumrahThe leader of the Indian bowling attack, Bumrah made his relationship with TV presenter Sanjana Ganesan official after sharing pictures of their wedding in March 2021.

In domestic cricket, Unadkat is the captain of the Saurashtra squad. At Madhuban Resort in Anand, he married his fiancée Rinny Kantaria.

    Chahar proposed to his girlfriend Jaya Bhardwaj soon after the IPL match between Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings in October, 2021. The two had known each other for just two months before Chahar popped the question. 
    6. Shardul ThakurThe Indian all-rounder kept a “small” engagement ceremony to make things official with girlfriend Mittali Parulkar in November. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma attended the event as well.

    It’s been almost a week since veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. Ever since he hung up his boots, the ‘Turbanator’ has been raising eyebrows with his comments regarding the BCCI’s mistreatment of the senior players like him who were thrown out of the team without any explanation.
    As Harbhajan Singh bids adieu to all forms of cricket, we wish him the very best.

    The official announcement of his retirement might have come just a few days back but deep down even Bhajji knew that his international career was all but over a long time back. Days after accusing the Indian cricket board of mistreating the senior players, the spin wizard has now pointed fingers at former skipper MS Dhoni and explained what role the wicket-keeper batter could have played in bringing his international career to a sad end.

    Speaking to a private news channel, the Punjab-born spinner said that he could never understand how a player who had taken 400 Test wickets could be discarded like that by those in power, that too without giving any specific reason.
    Although he couldn’t say for sure, he did hint that there must have been someone within the group who had a “problem” with him and didn’t want to see him around.

    “How can someone with 400 wickets be discarded is a mysterious story in itself, which hasn’t been unravelled yet. I still wonder, ‘What really happened? Who had a problem with me staying in the team?” Harbhajan said on India TV.

    Bhajji said that he was only 31 when he picked up his 400th Test wicket and could have easily taken at least 100 more wickets, if not more, had he got enough chances at the international level.

    The spin wizard said that he was so pissed up that he even reached out to the then skipper Dhoni and asked him the reason behind his omission from the Indian squad but he didn’t respond to his query and shut him down.

    It made him realise that there was no point in wasting his energy looking for an explanation because those who were holding the key positions had already made up their mind.
    “I tried to ask the captain [Dhoni] why, but I wasn’t given a reason. I realised there is no point in me asking for the reason for this treatment, and who is behind it because if you keep asking and no one replies, then it’s better to leave it,” he added.
    The way his career ended Harbhajan has every right to feel hard done by but he must also understand that the only reason why he was axed after the 2011 World Cup was because his performance got overshadowed by the likes of Ravichandran Ashiwn and Ravindra Jadeja.

    No matter how much he accuses others of mistreating him, the fact remains he himself was responsible for his omission from the Indian squad because he couldn’t perform at the same level that he once did.

The characters of Taarak Mehta, Daya, or everyone’s favourite, Jethalal are iconic in their own accord.

    However, if one tells you that actor Dilip Joshi, who plays Jetha Lal in the show, was originally offered to play another character, you’d feel weird. Why? Because we simply cannot imagine him doing any other role on this show!

    In an interview, Dilip spoke about the show and his character once, and revealed some surprising information. Apparently, he was offered the role of Champak Lal, and later the makers actually asked him to pick between Champaklal and Jethalal.

    The topic of “Indian History” has become one of the most talked-about matters in recent years. While Bollywood films are often accused of distorting history, which is termed as “Cinematic Liberty” by some filmmakers, in recent times, Bollywood celebs’ history lessons have courted massive controversies. 
    Recently, actor Naseeruddin Shah found himself in a bit of a soup when he called Mughals 'refugees'. 
    A video clip has gone viral on social media where Naseeruddin Shah is talking to The Wire and saying, “The so-called atrocities of the Mughals are being highlighted all the time. We forget that the Mughals are people who have contributed to the country. They are people who have left lasting monuments in the country, who have left the tradition of dancing, music, painting, literature. Mughals came here to make this their homeland. You can call them refugees if you like.”

    In November 2021, Kangana Ranaut attended the Times Now Summit and during a discussion, called India’s 1947 Freedom Struggle against British a “Bheekh”. 

    A video clip from the event went viral on social media where she was heard saying, “Woh azaadi nahi thi, woh bheek thi. Aur jo azaadi mili hai woh 2014 mai mili hai (That wasn’t freedom, those were alms. We got real freedom in 2014.)”

    The actress was slammed by many celebs and politicians including Swara Bhasker and Varun Gandhi.

    In August 2021, lyricist Manoj Muntashir courted controversy when he posted a video on his Twitter account where he called Mughal emperors like Humanyun, Akbar and Jahangir as ”glorified dacoits”.

    The lyricist was slammed by many Bollywood celebs including Neeraj Ghaywan, Richa Chadha and Mayur Puri.

    Around the same time as Manoj Muntashir was being slammed for calling Mughals 'dacoits', filmmaker Kabir Khan too received flak for calling them “nation builders”. In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Kabir Khan said that he cannot respect films that demonise Mughals. 

    He said, “I find it hugely problematic and disturbing because what really makes me upset is that it's being done just to go with the popular narrative. I can understand when a filmmaker has researched something and a filmmaker wants to make a point... Of course, there can be different viewpoints. If you want to demonise the Mughals, please base it on some research and make us understand why; why they were the villains that you think they were. Because if you do some research and read history, it's very tough to understand why they have to be villainised. I think they were the original nation-builders, and to write them off and say they murdered people... But what are you basing it on? Please point out the historical evidence. Please have an open debate, just don't go with the narrative that you think will be popular.”

    Weeks after the grand success of Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, Saif Ali Khan, who played the antagonist Udaybhan Singh Rathore, was asked about his take on the polarizing politics of the film. 

    Agreeing that the politics in Tanhaji was questionable, he told Film Companion, “For some reason, I didn’t take a stand… maybe next time I would. I was very excited to play the role because it’s a delicious role. But when people say this is history; I don’t think this is history. I am quite aware of what the history was.”

    He further added, “I don’t think there was a concept of India till perhaps the British gave it one. I don’t think there is really any constructive point in arguing about loudly, provided you yourself know why you’re doing it.”

    The Indian team has emerged as one of the most consistent Test sides in world cricket in the last few years. Apart from being dominant in home conditions, India’s red-ball squad has arguably become the best travelling side in the world after producing some great results in Australia and England.

    It was a forgettable year for India in white-ball cricket, with the biggest disappointment being the shocking first-round exit from the T20 World Cup. However, the team did make up for the limited-overs heartbreak in the longest format of the game and registered some memorable victories.

    Here are the three most memorable Test triumphs that made the whole country proud

    Australia hadn’t lost a single Test match at this venue since 1988 but their 32-year-long unbeaten streak was brought to an end by a spirited Indian side in January this year. The series was on the line and nobody gave them a chance to create an upset, especially because they were missing several of their first-team players.
    It was a complete team performance as different players chipped in at different occasions of the game and got the team out of trouble. However, the biggest talking point was Rishabh Pant who scored an unbeaten 89 in the fourth innings and helped India chase down the massive 328-run total on the final day. India got over the line with three wickets to spare and registered their back-to-back Test series win Down Under, clinching the series 2-1.

    Winning a Test match at the historic Lord’s Cricket Ground is always a special feeling but things get even more special when the victory comes against all odds. Heading into the final day of the second Test match, hosts England were the favourites to win the match but India’s pace bowling duo of Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah had some other plans. The duo stitched an unbeaten 89-run stand for the ninth wicket and brought India back in the game.

    India declared their innings with 60 overs left in the day’s play and everybody thought the match would end in a draw as nobody saw them getting bowled out inside one-and-a-half sessions. What followed can’t be explained in words as the Indian pacers tormented the English batting line with their brilliant bowling and restricted them for a paltry score of 120 runs in 51.5 overs, thus winning the match by 151 runs.

    After losing the Lord’s Test, the hosts made a great comeback and registered a massive innings and 76-run victory in Leeds to level the series at 1-1. But Virat Kohli’s team got back to the winning ways at The Oval and took an invincible 2-1 lead in the five-test series. This victory was special because like the Lord’s Test, the hosts were in a position of strength heading into the Day 5.

    Chasing 368 to win, the England openers had added 100 runs for the opening wicket and at that point only two results seemed possible both in England’s favour. However, Indian bowlers once again rose to the occasion and made a great comeback in the final two sessions. From 100 for no loss to 210 all out, it was an incredible bowling effort that summed up India’s whole summer on English soil.
