The Indian cricket team could not have thought of celebrating New Year’s Eve in a better way than winning their first-ever Test match at the Centurion fortress in Gauteng, South Africa and getting a 1-0 lead in the three-match series that they are in the middle of.
However, despite the incredible win, former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar wants the current Indian skipper in the longest format of the game, to go an extra mile, pick up his phone and give a call for an ex-India cricketer for personal reasons.
Virat Kohli's reaction in dressing room after getting out goes viralhttps://t.co/vkDmnlI1GP pic.twitter.com/3wbl06aKi8
    β€” SeaHawk Updates (@SeaHawkUpdates) December 29, 2021
Famously and fondly known as β€˜Sunny G’, Gavaskar wants that Kohli calls up Sachin Tendulkar and wish him a β€˜Happy New Year’ with the hopes of trying to get him to talk about the time when he refused to play even a single cover drive shot after being dismissed by a ball pitching outside of the off-stump back in 2004,

In what is often called the most disciplined inning that Tendulkar had played, the batter refused to go for his favourite shot, the cover drive, after he got dismissed on an outer edge one too many times. As a result of such a conscious effort, the Master Blaster put up an unbeaten 241-run score off 436 balls against the mighty Australian side at the demanding Sydney Cricket Ground. That’s 436 deliveries faced without attempting a single cover drive.

Same as Tendulkar, even Kohli is going through a similar and very specific slump in which no matter how well he might be playing, somehow he can’t resist the urge to go for the cover driveΒ as soon as the ball it pitched a little outside of the off-stump. More often than not, this lack of resistance gets him packing and walking back to the dressing room.
That’s exactly how the skipper got outΒ in the first and the second innings of the first Test at Centurion and that’s how James Anderson dominated himΒ like a veteran does a rookie during India’s unfinished tour of England earlier this year.
WOWWWW! @jimmy9 gets Kohli first ball and Trent Bridge is absolutely rocking!

So the New Year advice from Gavaskar to Kohli is to just call up Tendulkar, learn from what he went through that specific phase of his career and try and implement all those things in his life too, especially if he wishes to finally score that long-awaited 71st century in international cricket.

The touring Indian team definitely had an impact in Centurion, breaking through South Africa's fortifications and winning the first Test by 113 runs. The players' celebratory spirits erupted on the pitch as soon as the team recorded the historic triumph, and Indian captain Virat Kohli was spotted beaming as well. Kohli's family is accompanying him on his tour of the country of the Proteas, and his little daughter VamikaΒ witnessed the joyous occasion.
The Indian captain could be seen waving to his baby girl in the same light. Kohli could be seen celebrating the victory with raised fists while turning towards his family in the grandstand in one of the videos that went viral on the internet.

He saw that the Men in Blue were off to a great start. Despite the rain on Day 2, the team still managed to win by 113 runs, which is a significant achievement. It's usually a tough venue to play against South Africa (Centurion), but the openers' discipline was outstanding. Winning the toss and batting first in a foreign country is a difficult task. Mayank and KL deserve credit for the manner they set it up, according to Kohli.

When it came to the bowlers, the skipper stated he expected India to score between 300 and 320 runs, and he put his confidence in players like Shami, Bumrah, Siraj, and Ashwin. Kohli had even said it in the locker room. Additionally,Β  Kohli conceded that Bumrah didn't bowl much in the first inning, allowing SA to score roughly 40 extra runs or else they would have won the match in the first session of the last day otherwise.
Talking about Mohammed Shami who recently surpassed the record for fastest Indian pacer to get 200 Test cricketers, Kohli said that he’s of the best three seamers in the world at the moment. His strong wrist, his seam position, and his ability to hit a length consistently, all these values make him a significant asset for the team.

Team India ended 2021Β on a high as they defeated South Africa for the first time at SuperSport Park in Centurion. Virat Kohli and his men became part of history as they became the first-ever Asian team to win a Test match in Centurion.

It was a momentous occasion because before this game Centurion was being hailed as the fortress where no visiting side had come and won a red-ball game in the last seven years. But Kohli and his men did the unthinkable and capped the year with yet another historic triumph.
For the first time in the history, India had gone into a Test series in South AfricaΒ as the favourites and this win only proved why everyone was so confident about the side's victory even before the series began.

Given India’s incredible away test record in the last couple of years, most fans and experts had hailed it as the best opportunity to script history by winning their maiden Test series in South Africa and the side has already taken one step in that direction.
After the win, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav GangulyΒ took to the micro-blogging site and congratulated the team on their β€œgreat win”. Not just that, the β€˜Prince of Kolkata’ said unlike many he wasn’t surprised with the result at all, especially because of the form they were in heading into this series.
Great victory for Team India ..not surprised by the result at all...will be a hard team to beat this series..South africa will have to play out of their skins to do that ..enjoy the new year @bcci

β€œGreat victory for Team India ..not surprised by the result at all...will be a hard team to beat this series..South africa will have to play out of their skins to do that ..enjoy the new year @bcci,” Ganguly, who is recovering from COVID-19, tweeted.
Besides congratulating the Indian team, the former India skipper also issued a stern warning to the Proteas. He said that looking at the way how dominant Team India was in the Boxing Day Test, it would be extremely difficult for Dean Elgar’s side to stage a comeback in the series. To do that the hosts would have to play out of their skins.
A big victory for #TeamIndia in the 1st Test.

The Indian fans, however, didn’t like the overconfident tone in Ganguly’s tweet and cautioned the Indian players not to allow this win to get over their head and urged them to wipe their slate clean and approach the next game with fresh mindset.
No doubt sir India is a strong team to beat
    But staying overconfident isn't good
Sometimes even the underdogs can turn the table
So I hope that the Indian team doesn't get overconfident over SA
And keep the same spirit while competing in 2nd test

β€” Umesh Patil (@umeshpatil7867) December 30, 2021The supporters of the Indian cricket team are arguably the most superstitious lot in world cricket as they believe that their actions outside the field can affect a game’s outcome. Not just that, many fans strongly believe in the power of jinxing and that is why when Ganguly praised the team on their historic win, many were worried that it could backfire.
But if we think rationally, whatever Ganguly said was absolutely bang on. This Indian team was far superior than the Proteas in terms of both skills and experience and they are well on course to create history in the Rainbow Nation.

When the whole cricket fraternity was busy celebrating India’s historic winΒ over South Africa, former Proteas skipper Quinton de Kock sent shockwaves by calling time on his Test career with immediate effect.
Even before the series started, everybody knew that the former Proteas skipper would be taking paternity leave as he and his wife Sasha were about to welcome their first child.
BREAKING: Quinton de Kock has announced his retirement from Test cricket pic.twitter.com/mHzOdJ9mhX
    β€” ESPNcricinfo (@ESPNcricinfo) December 30, 2021
However, nobody expected de Kock to drop such a huge bombshell, at least not in the middle of an important Test series. What surprised the fans and experts the most was the fact that he was only 29 and had a whole career in front of him.
While the whole world wondered about the possible reason that could have led to such an extreme call, de Kock said that it wasn’t an easy decision and the reason why he decided to quit playing five-day cricket is because he wanted to spend more time with his loved ones.
BREAKING: #Proteas wicket-keeper batsman, Quinton de Kock has announced his retirement from Test cricket with immediate effect, citing his intentions to spend more time with his growing family.

β€œThis is not a decision that I have come to very easily. I have taken a lot of time to think about what my future looks like and what needs to take priority in my life now that Sasha and I are about to welcome our first child into this world and look to grow our family beyond that,” De Kock was quoted as saying in the CSA release.
My family is everything to me and I want to have the time and space to be able to be with them during this new and exciting chapter of our lives,” he added.

The wicketkeeper-batter said it was all about setting his priorities in life and for him it was his family that took precedence over his Test career as he found something that he loved more than cricket.
β€œI love Test cricket and I love representing my country and all that it comes with. I've enjoyed the ups and the downs, the celebrations and even the disappointments, but now I've found something that I love even more.

β€œIn life, you can buy almost everything except for time, and right now, it's time to do right by the people that mean the most to me.
β€œI would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been a part of my Test cricket journey from the very beginning. To my coaches, teammates, the various management teams and my family and friends - I couldn't have shown up as I did without your support.
β€œThis is not the end of my career as a Protea, I'm fully committed to white-ball cricket and representing my country to the best of my ability for the foreseeable future,” de Kock said in the press release.

Shocked with this whole development, some fans firmly believe that there is more to this story than meets the eye. They argued that given the bitter relationship the batter had with the country’s cricket board, it could be possible that he was made to pay the heavy price for standing up to the board.
    He's being pushed?

β€” Nihal G Shenoy (@shenoynihal) December 30, 2021Things are not right in South African cricket. CSA managing players poorly, too much politics has ruined cricket there. Think quota system is creating too much tension.

β€” Cricketwallah (@cricketwallah) December 30, 2021Joining the two dots, some fans recalled how de Kock was dropped from South Africa’s Playing XI after he defied CSA’s order during the T20 World Cup and refused to take a kneeΒ ahead of their league match against the West Indies.
He was included in the side only after he retracted from his initial stanceΒ and joined his teammates in standing against racism.

While some sympathised with De Kock, there was no dearth of people who viewed this whole episode with a completely different lens and blamed the southpaw for prioritising money over playing for the country. They argued that the real reason why he hung up boots in Test format was because he was enticed by the idea of earning more money playing different T20 leagues around the world.
Why everyone loves to retire soo soon nowadays? they can't handle the pressure or what. https://t.co/3e1XUcxoqa
β€” Bharat (@savageunclown45) December 30, 2021Stunned! The decision will only make South Africa Test side poorer. But even though it depends on an individual, should cricketers consider country or family first, still remains an argument https://t.co/GzDsAr1sia
β€” Samrat Chakraborty (@dahnumber7) December 30, 2021To ask for a paternity leave is fine. But I can't understand why he's quit altogether... he's still so young and had quite a career ahead...
β€” KSR (@KShriniwasRao) December 30, 2021Quinton de Kock’s shock retirement should spark conversations around just how unattractive a Test career is to most players outside the richest 3-4 cricket nations..#SAvIND #dekock
β€” Hemant (@hemantbuch) December 30, 2021Whatever the reason may be, the fact remains that the sport has seen one more extremely talented cricketer walk away from Test cricket, which is not a good sign for the game's oldest format.

Akshay Kumar's upcoming period drama Prithviraj, featuring Miss World 2017 Manushi Chillar as the leading lady, is one of the most-awaited films of 2022. While fans are eagerly waiting for its release, the movie has now courted controversy. According to IANS, Prithviraj has landed in trouble as Gurjars in Rajasthan have threatened to stop the film's screening. Yes, you read that right!

Reportedly, the community is not happy with the term 'Rajput' used for Prithviraj Chauhan. They are claiming that Prithviraj was from the Gurjar community and not a Rajput.
The Gurjar community even protested against the same in Ajmer, a few days ago. They have asked the makers to show Prithviraj Chauhan as a Gurjar king else they will not let them screen the film.Β Β
Speaking about the same, Gurjar leader Himmat Singh stated, "Prithviraj movie is made on the basis of Prithviraj Raso written by Chand Bardai and the same was shown in the teaser of Prithviraj movie. After studying the inscriptions available in history, researchers have believed that Chand Bardai wrote it around 400 years back after the reign of Prithviraj Chauhan. In the 16th century, the Raso epic was written which is fictional. The epic is written by Chand Bardai in Pringal language which is a mixture of Bajra and Rajasthani languages. During the reign of Gurjar emperor Prithviraj Chauhan, the Sanskrit language was used but not the Pringal language which has been used by the poet".Β
View this post on InstagramHe added that the father of Prithviraj Chauhan, Someshwar, has been connected with the Gujjar caste. Hence, his son will be a Gurjar. However, Singh's claims have been rejected by the leaders from the Rajput community. According to them, Gurjars were initially gauchar who were later converted into Gujjar and then Gurjars. Shri Rajput Karni Sena national spokesperson Vijendra Singh Shaktawat claimed that Gurjars got this name because the community basically came from Gujarat.
While the makers of Akshay Kumar's film are yet to react to the controversy.Β
For the unversed, Prithviraj has been directed by Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi while Yash Raj Films (YRF) have bankrolled it. Also featuring Sanjay Dutt and Sonu Sood in pivotal roles, the film is slated to release on January 21, 2022. However, there is an ongoing buzz that the makers are thinking about postponing the release. However, it is not yet confirmed.Β

After the Indian cricket team won their first of three Test matches against South Africa at the Centurion cricket ground in Gauteng, it was a moment of celebration in the resort where the entire team is staying for the duration of their stay in the country.
India’s elite spinner and number two Test bowler in the world, Ravichandran AshwinΒ allowed the fans some heartwarming videos and pictures from whatever was going on inside the resort, including the moment when the Indian red-ball veteran, Cheteshwar Pujara was brought centre stage and asked to shake a leg.

The 33-year old is an extremely simplistic man who is an introvert by nature and isn’t too comfortable dancing along with some of the more open teammates of his. But the duo of Ashwin and pacer Mohammed Siraj somehow managed to breach past Pujara’s initial hesitation and got him to do a couple of moves.
Watching the batter break through his self-consciousness and enjoying the historical victory against the Proteas was such a celebration at even the South African staff members of the resort were excited and joined the Men in Blue with some of their own dance moves.
Here’s how some of his fans reacted to the hilarious moment:

With the 113-run victory on Thursday, the Indian cricket team became the first squad in Asia to have won a Test match at the Centurion. It also gives Virat Kohli’s men a crucial 1-0 lead in the three-match Test series and it can allow them to become the first ever Indian squad to have won a Test series in South Africa.
