Ravi Shastri has somehow managed to be a part of Indian cricket for decades even after retiring as a player at the age of 31 years. He was a phenomenal cricketer and remains one of the most fearless spokespersons of the game, but his achievements as the head coach of the Men in Blue outrank a lot of his personal records while on the field.
However, there is yet another reason why Shastri has been known to be loved and adored by the majority of the fans of the Indian cricket team and that is his stellar voice behind the microphone, his extensive knowledge of the game, and the art of weaving words together to make for some of the most exciting, thrilling and adrenaline-boosting commentary this game has ever seen.
From introducing “tracer bullets” to cricket to the iconic moment when he said “Dhoni finishes it off in style, a magnificent strike into the crowd, India lift the World Cup after 28 years,” that will forever remain engraved in the hearts and minds of everyone who witnessed India winning the World Cup at home back in 2011, Shastri is responsible for spoiling us with elite-level commentary.
Ever since he was appointed as the head coach of the squad, it has been difficult for fans to stick to the television, especially because of the quality of commentary that has gone down so drastically.
From not being able to differentiate between Tom and Sam Curran to raging massive fights while on live television, from trying to make cringy jingles to cracking the lamest of jokes, many Indian commentators have taken away the fun and excitement that the viewers used to feel back when they wanted to sit back and watch Shastri create magic with his words.
However, there is some good news for the fans who have been watching their favourite team play important matches while putting their televisions on mute just because they couldn’t stand what the men behind the microphone were saying.
While answering a question about his future plans in the Express Adda Shastri spoke about his wishes to return to the commentary box. According to the former head coach, he will most certainly return to television and media simply because he loved doing so the most.
Thankful and overjoyed about this news, here’s how some of the fans reacted to Shastri’s comments:

Former India coach Ravi Shastri feels that it’s time that the Indian government should legalise sports betting in the country. The head coach feels that by making sports betting legal, the government could earn a lot of tax revenue, which they are currently losing on
© Reuters
“I think it will generate tremendous revenue for the government. Tax-wise, it’s the way of the world at the moment. The more you try to shut it down, the more it will be in your face through alternate channels. I think it’s extremely important that it should be legalized in a proper way and it’s a good platform for things to be done officially and properly,” Shastri said at the e Adda organised by The Indian Express.
Not just in India, illegal betting is a menace that has plagued the sporting community across the globe. According to a report from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, the global illegal sports betting market is expected to touch $1.7 trillion annually, which is more than thrice of the legal sports wagering market which currently stands at $40 billion.
Despite it being a punishable offence in India, every year hundreds of people indulge in illegal sports betting, placing bets through illegal channels, hurting the Indian economy a great deal.
It's no secret that the Government of India, despite all its efforts, has failed to curb this menace and takes a huge hit to its exchequer every year.
With so many leagues popping up across different sports, the second-most populated country in the world has the potential to become a world leader in sports and an even bigger market for sports betting.
© Reuters
Shastri’s advice may surprise many but the reality is that this illegal betting is wiping out hundreds of crores from the Indian economy every year and this issue is going to be more serious in the future.
Remember when we were kids and our parents would tell us not to do a certain thing, we would make sure that we do it no matter what. We human beings are rebellious by nature and we can’t take no for anything. Our brain is wired in a way that we always get attracted to things that we are asked to distance ourselves from.

The moral of the story here is that whether the government legalises it or not, this underground illegal betting market is going to get bigger and bigger in the coming years and the only way to stop it is by making a policy to legalise it.
To many Shastri’s advice might seem radical but if we think from an economic point of view, you would realise that his suggestion does make sense.

By legalising this whole process, not only would the government fill up its coffers by hundreds of crores of rupees every year but also break this underground syndicate, often used by the criminals to launder money in and out of the country.

KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal are great friends ever since their childhood. The two practically grew up together, while playing domestic cricket for Karnataka and have gone on to headline international cricket in red-ball format ever since.
As elite batters with endless potential, both Rahul and Agarwal have often been chosen to open the batting order for the squad and as a result, have been made to replace one another in the team on more than one occasion. Even then, the camaraderie the two share between them has not taken a hit, even a little bit and both of them continue to be incredibly close to each other despite the cutthroat competition.
However, with Rohit Sharma getting sidetracked with a hamstring injury before the South Africa Test series, it is time for Agarwal and Rahul to step on the field together as opening partners and it would be nice to see the kind of chemistry these two friends will share on the pitch.
Before the first of three Tests begins on December 26th, also known as the Boxing Day Test, Rahul and Agarwal were asked to sit right next to each other and simply talk about their journey to where they are in life and how important of a factor has their friendship played in it.
From playing domestic cricket to donning the whites for #TeamIndia together, the batting duo has come a long way. @28anand tracks the journey of @klrahul11 & @mayankcricket as they gear up for the SA challenge. #SAvIND

In the video shared by the official Twitter handle of the BCCI, Rahul revisits his India debut which also happened to be on Boxing Day back when India was touring Australia and had to play the third match of the series in Melbourne in 2014. Rahul, who was placed sixth on the batting order for the match had a rather disappointing start to his career when he managed to score three runs in the first innings and one run in the second innings at one-down.
Coincidentally, Agarwal also made his debut in a Boxing Day Test in Melbourne while replacing KL Rahul in the roster four years after his friend’s debut. However, unlike Rahul, Agarwal’s debut was an instant success. He scored 76 and 42 runs in the first and second innings respectively.
During the interview, Agarwal also noticed a few grey hairs in the 29-year old KL Rahul’s beard and asked him how he got them at such a young age. Rahul, without taking a lot of time, said that he got some of them while captaining the Punjab Kings franchise in the Indian Premier League.

Agarwal, who was also Rahul’s PBKS teammate until the 2021 season knew exactly what he was talking about and couldn’t control himself from cracking a big laugh as soon as he heard that.
Here’s how the fans of the two friends responded to the casual and fun-filled interview:
Kl rahul said he got a few grey hair because of IPL's captaincy
Then mayank laughed a lot like he is so frustrated with the captaincy responsibility.
— Punjab Kings FC (@punjab_kings_fc) December 24, 2021Man I love these two. I don't know even if they are not scoring runs, I still love them. Unpopular Opinion:- KL Rahul left PBKS so that Mayank can get captaincy and a bigger paycheck

Ahead of the beginning of the T20 World Cup 2021, the fans of the Indian cricket team were overjoyed with the BCCI announced Mahendra Singh Dhoni to be joining the squad in the United Arab Emirates as their mentor.
It was a rather odd and unorthodox move made by the Indian cricket board and a lot of questions were raised behind the real objective of doing this. Back then both BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah had said that they had brought Dhoni aboard simply because of his experience in winning major ICC tournaments, including the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 World Cup at home.
"MS Dhoni is not charging any honorarium for his services as the mentor of Indian team for the T20 World Cup," BCCI Secretary Jay Shah to ANI
(file photo) pic.twitter.com/DQD5KaYo7v
— ANI (@ANI) October 12, 2021
Considering the fact that the Men in Blue failed to make it beyond the group stage, lost to Pakistan for the very first time in a World Cup match and had one of the worst tournaments in the history of Indian cricket, nobody can really say how much of an impact Dhoni had on the team and the players as their mentor.
However, about a month and a half since India’s early exit and the final taking place between Australia and New Zealand, a former Indian cricketer has claimed that the real reason behind adding Dhoni’s name as the mentor wasn’t to share his title-winning experience with the team, but instead something a lot more bureaucratic in nature.
View this post on Instagram
Atul Wassan, the former pacer to have played in the blue kit, said in a News18 discussion panel that he believes Dhoni’s role as mentor was more about regulating the duo of head coach Ravi Shastri and captain Virat Kohli who were “handling, selecting and managing” every single player that they wanted to play in all of the matches.
According to Wassan, ‘Captain Cool’ was present in the Indian dressing room as a voice of reason, someone who could restore the balance in the team when the leading men were not being just in their team selection processes.
View this post on Instagram
The 53-year-old also added that the Indian cricket board was absolutely right in sacking Virat Kohli as the ODI captain after he had stepped down as the T20I skipper. Wassan believes that Kohli had started wishing for special treatment from the BCCI and the task of taking away responsibilities from him and giving it to somebody like Rohit Sharma was arguably the best thing that they could have done for the benefit of the team.

Ever since Priyanka Chopra won the Miss World 2000 pageant back in the November of 2000, the actress really achieved heights that probably not a lot of other Bollywood actors can think of achieving.
The 39-year-old actress is not just a big Bollywood name but she's also gone on to carve a niche for herself in Hollywood as well, with Priyanka starring alongside Keanu Reeves in The Matrix Resurrections.
© Village Roadshow Pictures
Now, while we know that there is really no ceiling on her success as a professional actor, it turns out that Priyanka is an exceptional life partner as well.
As you know, Priyanka married Jonas Brothers' frontman Nick Jonas in a big Bollywood wedding back in 2018.
View this post on Instagram
The couple now resides in Los Angeles, and are said to be living happily together despite their crazy work commitments.
The reason?
Well, because of their unconditional love for each other.
Opening about their marriage, Nick has actually come out to reveal how loving Priyanka can be, and how supportive she has been for him through the ups and downs of his career.
In March of 2021, Nick released his fourth studio album 'Spaceman'.
© Island
However, unfortunately for him, the album underperformed leaving him heartbroken in the wake of it.
Now, while Nick was obviously disappointed and even 'discouraged' because of it, he reveals how Priyanka supported him and loved him through his failures.
Speaking in an episode of the mini-series Jonas Brothers: Moments Between The Moments, Nick shed some light on his marriage with Priyanka and how she's been so supportive.
“I used to think that I can just go go go, a million miles a minute. I think the last 18 months have taught me how to slow down a little bit. Actually, enjoy being home. When I met Priyanka and we fell in love, one of the things we connected on early was how ambitious we both were. And focused and driven. How deeply we care about our work.” said Nick.
© Instagram
He reveals how her support meant so much to him when Spaceman didn't work out so well.
“My wife (Priyanka) showed me incredible support and love after Spaceman album came out. I am really proud of the album I made. But it didn’t quite perform like I wanted it to. Which was really discouraging for me. Because I was like ‘man, I put so much effort into this album'. The way she loved me through it and was just proud, meant a lot.” he said.
Well, what can we say, Nick? Most of us Indians are just built differently.
While a lot of the times Indian marriages and customs are criticized, one thing that is most common in marriages here is that we are all taught to make things work.
That means doing ones' very best to support the better half. Looks like Priyanka is a perfect example of that.

Winner of five Emmy Awards, three Grammy Awards and the Mark Twain Prize for American Humour - Dave Chappelle is a big name in the American comedy-verse.
A stand-up comedian and actor par excellence, Dave Chapelle gained a lot of popularity after his satirical comedy sketch series “Chappelle’s Show”.
What’s more? He teamed up with his close friends Talib Kweli and yasiin bey and now runs an insightful podcast on Luminary, it’s called “The Midnight Miracles”.
First things first, it’s a delight to listen to a podcast hosted by three close friends - they totally get each other, throwback to the good-old-days they’ve spent together and make the content easy to grasp!
Luminary
But that’s not even the best part - we’re in love with the guest list! With every episode, we witness new names come on board and share their experiences with us.
Some of our favourite guests from the podcast series include Kevin Hart, Questlove, Mo Amer, Michelle Wolf, Jon Stewart and Radio Rahim.
The series follows a conversational format where every episode is drastically different from the other.
View this post on Instagram A post shared by The Midnight Miracle (@midnightmiracle)
For instance, the first episode (and my favourite), “How To Inspire”, deals with some heavy but important topics like mental health, drugs, expressing ourselves not just when we’re at our chirpiest, but also when we hit rock bottom. In the course of the episode, Dave Chappelle asks - “How do you keep a despondent person alive? How do you make somebody want to live? Is there a thing that you can ever do for someone like that? Seriously.” The podcast then rolls towards Amy Winehouse’s death due to drug overdose, conversations about Robin Williams, and Roots founding member Malik B.
View this post on Instagram A post shared by The Midnight Miracle (@midnightmiracle)
This episode makes a solid statement without riding on “serious” tonality. We love how the conversations just flow, people share their deepest, darkest stories, and there are on filters. It feels like a sneak peek into an intimate interaction among old friends. What’s not to like!
Another episode, drastically different from the one we just discussed, features the comeback of “Black Star” after 20 years. Hang on, wondering what’s Black Star?
The co-hosts of the show, Talib Kweli and yasiin bey together form the hip-hop duo “Black Star” and dropped their first album titled “Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star” back in 1998. They’re back, and what better place than their own podcast to announce their comeback with their latest single “TMT”.
If you’re someone who is looking to dip his/her feet into the inspiring world of podcasts, this one will be a good start. “The Midnight Miracle” conveys a solid message while keeping the tonality fun!

Akshay Kumar, Sara Ali Khan, and Dhanush's much-awaited Atrangi Re has been streaming online on Disney Plus Hotstar. When the trailer of the movie was dropped online, people gave it a huge thumbs up and called it a potpourri of emotions.
View this post on Instagram
The trailer began with Vishnu (Dhanush) who is forcefully married to Rinku (Sara). Both Rinku and Vishnu come to a conclusion wherein they realize they both aren’t in love with each other and hence, they will part ways as soon they reach Delhi. The twist here is they grow fond of each other and here’s when we are introduced to Akshay’s character Sajad. Sara’s character Rinku is caught between two worlds – her present and the one she lived in the past. She is in love with both Vishnu and Sajad.
Here’s the trailer:
A lot of questions were raised citing the age gap between the lead actors. Well, the movie has been released and we hope it gives all the answers to its viewers. As the movie has been released, we decided to go on social media to understand the vibe of the viewers who have got the chance to watch the movie.
While going through the tweets, we realized that audience has mixed opinions about the movie. One section of the audience found the movie a must-watch and even felt that the actors did a great job with their parts.

For Sara, the movie was an important curse breaker as her last movie Love Aaj Kal 2 tanked horribly. In an interview with Firstpost, she said, “After Kedarnath and Simmba releasing back to back there was a certain expectation from me and I apologize that I have not been able to deliver in my third and fourth film (Coolie No 1). I am cognizant of that, I realize that. So after Kedarnath, there was dealing of success that I had to go through and after Love Aaj Kal there was dealing of failure that I had to go through. It is all part and parcel of life,” she says.
View this post on Instagram
She added, “I started shooting for Atrangi just a week or 10 days after Love Aaj Kal was declared a flop. I think how you deal with your failure immediately is very important. This film matters to me the most because I get to play Aanand L Rai’s leading heroine and I know now after having watched the film, having done his film, and having done other films what the value and what the importance of this film in my life is. I also know that Aanandji on a personal level uplifted me and gave me love and confidence at a time that I lost it for my own self.”
We really hope Atrangi Re works out for her as Akshay and Dhanush are on board. Are you planning to watch the movie? Let us know in the comments section below.
