It has been a known fact that Shah Rukh Khan was not the first choice to play the antagonist Rahul, an obsessive lover, in Yash Chopra’s Darr starring Sunny Deol and Juhi Chawla.

The role was first offered to Aamir Khan who had agreed to play the part, initially. But, later he walked out of the film citing differences with director Yash Chopra.
At that time, Yash Chopra had expressed his disappointment at Aamir's decision and had stated in the media that the actor wanted to know exactly how many times lead actor Sunny Deol will punch him in the film and vice-versa.

A few years after the blockbuster success of Darr, Aamir was asked about Yash Chopra’s claim and how much truth was in it. Talking to Rediff, Aamir explained that he was worried about his image and wasn’t keen on getting beaten up by Sunny Deol on the big screen.

He also stated that he had asked Yash Chopra for a joint narration with Sunny Deol because he didn’t want any confusion about their respective roles and most importantly, the climax of the film.

He said, “Regarding Yash Chopra's accusation I'd like to put things in perspective. In the first narration, he told me that Sunny (Deol) and I would fight but it would be Juhi (The woman whom I was obsessed with and harassing) who would kill me. That was poetic justice. Then I came to know that he had narrated a different climax to Sunny in which Sunny would kill me. So I asked for a joint narration.”

He further added, “I was concerned about my screen image. I was certainly not going to be beaten up by a regular hero in a regular commercial film. See, I didn't mind being beaten up by Deepak Tijori in Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar because that was a different kind of film. But if you have a casting coup like Sunny and me then I certainly don't want to be beaten up by him or even Arnold Schwarzenegger for that matter. Is there anything wrong with that?”

Aamir stated that Yash Chopra had told him they both would get equal number punches to throw at each other, “When Yashji told me it would be an equal fight in the climax I asked him what he meant by that and he said both of us would have an equal number of punches. These were his words, said in the presence of cameraman Manmohan Singh and scriptwriter Honey Irani. In any case, it made more sense to have a heroine who has been terrorised all along killing her tormentor.”

Further clearing the air about playing a negative character in Darr and why his portrayal would’ve been different from the way Shah Rukh Khan played it, Aamir said, “Yashji has also said that I had second thoughts about playing a negative role. Far from it... in fact, I would not have glamourised the role the way it was done in the film if I had done it. The character had a mental problem and it should have been played accordingly.”

Before their fallout during Darr, Aamir had worked with Yash Chopra in the 1993 film Parampara, which failed to perform at the box office. After walking out of Darr, Aamir Khan didn’t work with Yash Chopra for almost one-and-a-half decade.

Thirteen years after the release of Parampara, Aamir collaborated with Yash Chopra for the 2006 hit Fanaa directed by Kunal Kohli. Since then, he has delivered all-time grosser Dhoom 3 (2013) and the box office bomb Thugs Of Hindostan (2018) with Yash Raj Films.

Once upon a time, Akshay 'Khiladi' Kumar was known to be a ladies man. His name was associated with a lot of women and he was also rumored to be a heartbreaker. One of the most famous love stories that didn’t work out in Bollywood was that of superstars Raveena Tandon and Akshay Kumar. The two even got secretly engaged but the relationship ended after the actress accused him of being disloyal.

While the two were going strong, they starred together in Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi. The movie garnered a lot of attention courtesy the chemistry explored between Akshay Kumar and Rekha. The song titled In The Night No Control particularly was way too progressive in terms of aesthetic vision.

According to various reports , this did not go down well with Raveena who was engaged to Akshay back then.
"I don't think Akshay ever had anything to do with Rekha. As a matter of fact, he would run away from her. Akshay tolerated Rekha because of the film. At one point she wanted to get lunch dabbas for him from home. That's when I put my foot down. I felt it was taking things a bit too far”, she said in an old interview.
In another interview with Cine Blitz, she talked about it. “If this actress knows that we are together yet gets too close to Akshay, I will get my claws into her. But Akshay knows how to handle the situation I guess," she said.

The two lovebirds eventually broke up when rumours of Akshay’s growing closeness with Shilpa started doing the rounds.

After making his debut with Saat Hindustani and playing supporting roles in films like Anand and Namak Haraam, Amitabh Bachchan rose to fame with Prakash Mehra’s 1973 hit Zanjeer which also got him the title of “Angry Young Man”.

Two years later, he turned into a superstar with blockbusters Deewar and Sholay further establishing his “Angry Young Man” persona and the audience lapped it up.

However, in 1977, things got out of hand and the public got to witness the “Angry Young Man” off-screen as well.

It so happened that Amitabh Bachchan was shooting for filmmaker Sultan Ahmed’s Ganga Ki Saugand (1978) co-starring Rekha and got into an altercation with a man on the sets of the film.

According to the book Rekha - The Untold Story by Yasser Usman, “In 1977 Sultan Ahmad's dacoit flick, Ganga Ki Saugandh (1978), was being filmed near Jaipur. During an outdoor shoot, a huge crowd had gathered to catch a glimpse of the stars. But, one man in the crowd kept passing lewd remarks at Rekha. Despite repeated warnings, his nastiness continued. Amitabh, known for his composure, is said to have lost his cool and beat up the man.”

Up until then, there have been only a few mild rumours about Amitabh and Rekha’s alleged affair. However, the news of Amitabh beating up a man for Rekha spread like a wildfire and the next day all the entertainment magazines and newspapers were talking about their alleged romance.

The book stated, “This started a gossip wildfire. Film magazines played up the incident and speculated about why 'the classy and sophisticated Amitabh' would get into a fistfight for Rekha. What was going on? What started  as hushed murmurs about a romance between them got amplified and the rumours mills went into overdrive.”

Since that incident, it’s been over 40 years but their alleged affair has been one of the most talked-about topics amongst film buffs.

Apart from Ganga Ki Saugand, Rekha and Amitabh Bachchan starred together in films like Do Anjaane (1976), Mr Natwarlal (1979), Ram Balram (1980), Muqaddar Ka Sikandar (1978) and Silsila (1981) among others.
