Not even a week had passed after Bollywood star Kangana Ranaut was honoured with the fourth highest civilian award of the nation, the Padma Shri, and she managed to irk a whole lot of Indians with her inconsiderate words about the independence of India in 1947 from the British rule.
© Instagram/Kangana Ranaut
In a statement, Ranaut said that India attained true freedom in 2014, while what we got in 1947 was alms (bheek).
This outraged Indians who demanded that her award should be taken back since her comments maligned the freedom movement and belittled the efforts of our freedom fighters.
© Instagram/Kangana Ranaut
Now, a senior Congress leader Anand Sharma has urged the President to revoke her honour over her bheek comment. He took to Twitter describing it as “shocking” and “outrageous” and tagged the President to take appropriate action.
He wrote, "Prime Minister should break his silence and tell the nation if he endorses the views of Ms Ranaut. If not, the government should take appropriate legal action against such people," he tweeted.
© Twitter/Anand Sharma
“Hon'ble @rashtrapatibhvn should immediately take back the Padma award given to Ms Ranaut. Psychiatric evaluation should be carried out before giving such awards so that such persons do not dishonour the nation and its heroes," he added.
Another Congress leader also tweeted, “Kangana Ranaut's statement show’s what happens when people who are not deserving of Padma awards are given these honours. The government should take back the prestigious Padma award from her.”
© Instagram/Kangana Ranaut
Maharashtra Minister and Congress leader Nawab Malik also demanded the arrest of the actress.
“Looks like Kangana Ranaut took a heavy dose of Malana Cream (a variety of hashish) before making such a statement," he said. "We strongly condemn actress Kangana Ranaut's statement. She insulted freedom fighters. The Centre must take back the Padma Shri from Kangana Ranaut and arrest her,” he added.
© Instagram/Kangana Ranaut
While some folks on Twitter agree that Kangana's comment was downright derogatory and are demanding the cancellation of her honour, others pointed out that her views are not something over which an award for her art should back.
Kangana was awarded the Padma Shri for her contribution to Indian cinema.
Here is what people on Twitter have to say about the current controversy:
@AnandSharmaINC if awards are to be taken back based on what people speak in public, there are many that can be taken away - #Media folks like @BDUTT @sardesairajdeep @ShekharGupta should have been stripped of award years back.
— #MyFamilyMyResponsibility (@kossireddi) November 12, 2021Irrespective of her political affiliation her this statement is highly objectionable and must be condemned univocally. It had become a fashion to demean our freedom fighters because we haven’t gone through the pain of freedom struggles. Not worthy of any accolades
— Soumyashri Debasish (@SoumyashriD) November 11, 2021Nehru & Indira Gandhi gave Bharat Ratna to themselves. Kangana was given 2 national awards even by congress, u love her or hate her, but you can't deny that she is a top class actress who carved a place for herself, a truly self made woman.#BharatRatna #भारत_रत्न
— Vishant Panjiyar (@Vishant93185965) November 11, 2021Why only Congress… Bloody hell.. the whole nation wants!!!!!!
— Satish Kumar (@Sakumanu143) November 11, 2021Do the Padma’s carry any lustre anymore. In most cases they are given to people who appease the ruling party and the Padma Bhushan and Vibhushan”are doled out again in most cases to people who had a long way to go before being worthy of it
— chechawan (@deepak_ballal) November 11, 2021 Clearly, people are furious at her and for the right reasons.

Bollywood is India's premier film industry and with the glamour, money, and attention that comes with it, it is almost impossible for its stars to stay out of controversies.
With actors, models, producers, directors, and everyone else constantly under the microscope, it doesn't take long for things to become very controversial. (*cough* Kangana *cough*)
© Twitter
However, there are a few actors who are insanely good at staying out of controversies, mainly because of their discipline, their well-balanced life, and social media detox habits. Here are some of them.
1. R.Madhavan © Instagram/R. Madhavan
The Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein actor is one person who is said to be a very mature actor, loved by a large number of fans across the country. What stands out is that despite working for such a long time in Bollywood and South Indian cinema, Maddy is very wise when he speaks on social media. He speaks on things, but in the manner in which he does, he always maintains his true image of someone who is very intelligent, and this is the reason why people love him.
2. Riteish Deshmukh © Instagram/Riteish Deshmukh
Riteish Deshmukh is one actor who always has a smile on his face whether he is acting onscreen or off it. The actor is known to have a good bunch of friends, who he and his wife Genelia chill out with in order to live their life to the fullest. It's nothing but good vibes from Ritesh as he just wants to live a good life with his family, the reason why stays out of any controversy.
3. John Abraham © Pinterest
John Abraham is a very popular and successful Bollywood actor who has worked in so many films throughout his career. However, apart from the time when he split up with his ex-girlfriend Bipasha Basu, John is barely in the news for the wrong reasons. The reason is basically that when he's not busy working in films, he is busy spending time with his wife and following his passion for bikes and football.
4. Ajay Devgn © Instagram/AjayDevgn
Ajay Devgn is a very different kind of Bollywood actor despite being a proper superstar in every way possible. The Singham actor actually doesn't even like to attend parties, award functions, and other Bollywood social events, as he likes to do his work and live his life privately. He's mostly busy with films, however, the rest of his time goes to his family, which is why he actually has no time for controversies.
5. Jimmy Shergill © Twitter
The Punjabi munda is actually a treat to watch in films and is considered to be one of the finest actors we have in the industry today. However, despite balancing his time between Bollywood and Punjabi cinema, Jimmy always stays out of the negative limelight.
I mean, this is one of the reasons why he has such a cult fan following across the country. He is one person who just wants to do his work, give one or two very funny one-liners in interviews and keep working in interesting films. This is pretty much the formula for staying out of controversies, we feel.

After suffering a narrow defeat to Australia, Pakistan’s dreams of becoming only the second team after the West Indies to win two T20 World Cup titles came to an end. However, the Men In Green should be mighty pleased with the way they performed throughout this campaign.
They were the only team that reached the knock-out stage of the tournament winning all their group games. The Babar Azam-led side also broke the nearly two decade old jinx as they defeated their arch-rival India for the first time in World Cup history after 12 failed attempts.
Well played, #Pak You should be extremely proud of your campaign. Plenty of positives. But the people in Pakistan must also remember that nobody drops a catch on purpose. It’s the better team on the night that wins the match. What needs fixing is your mindset. #T20WorldCup
— Aakash Chopra (@cricketaakash) November 11, 2021
They also defeated a strong New Zealand side, who finished second behind them but reached the final after beating the reigning 50-over world champions England in a nail-biting contest.
Throughout their campaign, the Pakistani players, who came into the tournament after tough last two months, which saw New Zealand and England calling off their tour to their shores, showed great grit and determination and made the whole world take note of their talent.

Despite giving their all on the field, the Pakistani team fell short in the semi-final but their players, especially opener Mohammad Rizwan, won respect all over the world.

— Saj Sadiq (@SajSadiqCricket) November 11, 2021
The wicketkeeper-batter faced 52 deliveries and scored 67 runs with the help of seven boundaries, including four hits into the stands. Later, it was revealed that Rizwan had spent the last two nights in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) due to chest infection and was released from the hospital on the day of the final.

“Mohammad Rizwan developed a severe chest infection on November 9th after which he was admitted to the hospital. He spent two nights in the ICU recovering,” the Pak team doctor Najeeb Somroo told reporters after the match.
“He made an incredible recovery and was deemed fit before the match. We can see his great determination and tenacity that shows his spirit of performing for the country. And we can see how he performed today."
“The decision regarding his health was made by the whole team management. This was regarding the morale of the whole team and therefore we kept it within the team,” he added.
Skipper Babar Azam also heaped praise on his opening partner calling him a “team man” and describing his knock as “exceptional".
Babar Azam regarding Mohammad Rizwan "He's a team man. The way he played today, it was just exceptional. When I saw him, he was a bit down, but when I asked him about how he was and his health, he said, no, I will play" #T20WorldCup #PAKvAUS
— Saj Sadiq (@SajSadiqCricket) November 11, 2021
“Definitely he's a team man. The way he played today, it was exceptional,” Babar said at the post-match press conference.
“When I saw him, he was a little bit down, but when I asked him about his health he said, no, I will play. And the way he played today he showed that he's a team man. And I am very confident about his attitude and his performance,” said the Pak skipper of his partner-in-crime Rizwan.

— ESPNcricinfo (@ESPNcricinfo) November 12, 2021
On one hand we have a Pakistani player who chose to take the field despite suffering from serious illness and spending two nights in ICU, on the other hand we have our own players who came up with all sorts of excuses after losing the opening two matches.
Don’t get me wrong, I am not trying to play down the issue of mental health but the fact that players complained of the issue after losing the match sounded more like an excuse more than an actual justification.
© Twitter/Virat Kohli
As much as the BCCI was responsible for not providing them with enough rest, the players also played an equally important role in making their calendar compact. With the IPL being a domestic tournament, the players had the choice to withdraw their name but they didn’t, prioritising IPL money over country. Even legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev slammed the players for choosing IPL’s big paycheck over playing for the country.
© Twitter/Kohli
Unlike Indian players and team management, the Pakistani support staff decided to keep Rizwan’s illness news to themselves so that it doesn’t affect their preparations ahead of their big knock-out match.
The Indian players must learn from Rizwan that no matter how much money that you make
playing in domestic leagues, respect is only earned by doing well for your country in international cricket.

Whenever there has been a ‘Spirit of the Game’ debate, the Aussies always take a high moral ground and portray themselves as its torch-bearers. But looks like they only believe in preaching others and don't take the sportsman spirit that seriously themselves.
There have been numerous incidents when former Aussie legends like Shane Warne and Ricky Ponting have criticised players from other countries, most notably Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin for running the batter out who he was trying to steal extra yards. They even labelled Ashwin’s act against the spirit of the game.

— ஸ்பைடர் பாய் (@lakshu_classy) November 11, 2021
But when it comes to their own players, these so-called torchbearers of the sportsman spirit decided to maintain a pin-drop silence.
The latest incident that has ignited this never-ending spirit versus laws of the game debate once again occurred during the T20 World Cup semi-final between Pakistan and Australia.
View this post on Instagram
Bowling for the first time in the eighth over of the innings, Pakistan veteran Mohammad Hafeez lost grip of the ball and ended up bowling a wayward delivery that bounced twice before reaching the Australian opener David Warner.
Warner decided to make most of the freebie and dispatched it over the deep mid-wicket fence for a massive six, adding crucial runs for his side.
shot of the tournament?? pic.twitter.com/yFXAHRWUaS
— Maara (@QuickWristSpin) November 11, 2021
To be honest, as per the laws of the game, Warner was well within his rights to punish the bowler for his mistake but so was Ashwin and all the other bowlers who have ever run a batter out who tried to gain unnecessary advantage by leaving the non-striker’s crease early.
Not many people questioned Warner’s actions but former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir took to the micro-blogging site and slammed Warner for his “absolutely pathetic display of spirit of the game”. Taking a dig at the Australian, the cricketer-turned-politician also tagged R Ashwin in his tweet and asked him for his opinion on the matter.
What an absolutely pathetic display of spirit of the game by Warner! #Shameful What say @ashwinravi99? pic.twitter.com/wVrssqOENW
— Gautam Gambhir (@GautamGambhir) November 11, 2021
“What an absolutely pathetic display of spirit of the game by Warner! #Shameful What say
@ashwinravi99?” Gambhir wrote on Twitter, while sharing a split-image of Warner’s six-hitting shot.
Speaking at the official broadcaster’s post-match show in Hindi, Gambhir directly called out Warne and Ponting, and asked what that had to say about Warner’s act.
pic.twitter.com/ejngYEvHsn
— Prashant Sharma (@PrashantMUFC) November 11, 2021
“Shane Warne comments and tweets on everything. Even Ricky Ponting makes big, big claims about the spirit of the game. What have they got to say about this?” Gambhir said on Star Sports.
"When Ashwin does Mankad, they come up with big comments. Today, what has Shane Warne got to say about David Warner? Because it's easy to criticise someone but extremely difficult to criticise your own players," he added.
His point is that if this is right , that was right. If that was wrong , this is wrong too. Fair assessment? @plalor
— Ashwin (@ashwinravi99) November 12, 2021
Instead of calling Warner out, one senior Australian journalist tried to defend Warner by describing Gambhir’s comparison as misplaced. Responding to the reply, Ashwin clarified Gambhir’s point and wrote: “His point is that if this is right , that was right. If that was wrong , this is wrong too. Fair assessment? @plalor”.
Correct. But the point here is the Australian cricketers taking a high moral ground in situations that suit them. That's hypocritical.
— Abbas Katwarawala (@KSAbby) November 12, 2021Absolutely it was a wonderful hit by @davidwarner31 . Great shot
— Ashwin (@ashwinravi99) November 12, 2021Mandaking happened first in 1947–48 and then multiple times there after. There is nothing wrong in that was well, so why was Ashwin criticized? That's the whole point of the tweet.
— RKSinha (@89_sinha) November 12, 2021Ashwin, you are spot on. If these custodians of the spirit of cricket pipe up every time you do something, then so should they against this.
— Rahul (@RahsAlGhul18) November 12, 2021U did absolutely right thing and so did warner..u play to win matches not fairplay awards...there should be some competitiveness in game otherwise the whole interest will be lost in few years by showing just Sportsman spirit..there are other ways to do that...
— Ashish Godayal (@ashes_ashish) November 12, 2021What's about your big talks about spirit of game @ShaneWarne? about Warner. You @MichaelVaughan @RickyPonting. You people used to give @ashwinravi99 Lots of advice about the spirit of game. How come no comments today mates. #PAKVSAUS @GautamGambhir @harbhajan_singh https://t.co/vAtyOdmReg
— Sarvesh Sinai Narvencar (@sarveshbab) November 11, 2021Gautam Gambhir said, "Ricky Ponting talks about spirit of the game, Shane Warne tweets on everything. Now what will they say on Warner incident? When Ashwin Mankad we see big comments. Where's Warne now? It's easy to talk about other players, but difficult for your own players".
— Mufaddal Vohra (@mufaddal_vohra) November 12, 2021 It’s sad but the harsh truth is that cricket is a batter’s game. Nobody seems to care about the bowlers. Even the rules and regulations have been drafted to benefit the batters at bowlers’ expense.
The same holds true for the spirit of the game debate. If you are a batter like Warner you can walk away freely but if you are a bowler like Ashwin expect the whole world to gang up against you in order to portray you as a villain.
It’s cricket’s hypocrisy at its best and Australians are its torch-bearers.

If you have been following Kangana Ranaut’s interviews, you might have a fair idea that she can be brutally blunt. In fact, thanks to her explosive interviews, there was a lot of chitter-chatter around the fact that Kangana wanted to join politics last year.
She was in the news for her statement equating Mumbai to Pakistan Occupied Kashmir and for also bashing the drug mafia in Bollywood. This was also the time when her office was demolished while she was in her hometown.
View this post on Instagram
In an interview with Times Now, Kangana was asked if she was creating controversy to get a political ticket into the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Sadly, Kangana calls herself a feminist but didn’t flinch at all with the fact that she insulted Urmila Matondkar while responding to the anchor’s claim.
She went on to say, “One doesn’t have to be a genius to figure it’s not very difficult to get a ticket… Even Urmila Matondkar is a soft porn star. I know it’s very blatant… But she’s not known for her acting for sure. What is she known for? For doing soft porn right? If she can get a ticket, why won’t I get a ticket?”
Here’s a clip of the interview:
It all started when Urmila Matondkar slammed Kangana and said that she should first look at her home state Himachal Pradesh before attacking Maharashtra or Mumbai and the alleged drug nexus in B-Town. She even addressed her as ‘Rudali’. She had said, “Why did this person who has been given Y-security from taxpayers' money not give information about the drug nexus to the police?.” Urmila went on to add that just because someone is shouting all the time, it doesn't mean that the person is speaking the truth.
View this post on Instagram
After Kangana attacked her publicly, Urmila also gave it back. She also made a reference to how she backed Kangana when Shiv Sena’s member Sanjay Raut humiliated the Queen actor. Urmila condemned that act and was all praises for Kangana as an actor. In an interview with NDTV, she said, “It just goes to show where we stand, and that is precisely what I have been trying to say, that if you have a viewpoint, by all means, you have a right to express it. But it is just that the way you express it and how you express it does matter. Today, as I am spoken about like this by another woman, which level should that be going to? It really fails me.”
"When Kangana called me a Soft Port Star the Female Anchor interviewing her smiled gleefully. Isn't that shocking," asks @UrmilaMatondkar on @themojo_in . "Will all who opposed Shiv Sena's slurs for Kangana condemn this too" #UrmilaMatondkar Full show: https://t.co/y5TmPhwJkt pic.twitter.com/Cj6VWAjOkF

Former Indian cricketer turned analyst and commentator, Irfan Pathan wanted to show his appreciation for the dedication and courage with which the Pakistan cricket team played throughout the T20 World Cup 2021 before getting defeated by Australia in the semi-final.
As a result, the man did exactly what any other public celebrity would do and shared a tweet congratulating them on a successful campaign, while also suggesting that the Australian team were the better side on that particular day and as a result, ended up winning the contest.
Well tried #pak cricket! You were really good until today but Australia were better. Well done Aussie
— Irfan Pathan (@IrfanPathan) November 11, 2021
“Well tried #pak cricket! You were really good until today but Australia were better. Well done Aussie,” he wrote on the micro-blogging website. It was short, sweet and even received some flak by the Indian fans of the game, who wanted to bash him for complimenting the rival side.
However, the message ended up offending some Pakistani fans as well, who thought that Pathan was mocking their team for losing to Aaron Finch’s men and it was his way to bring their spirits down:
Oh right. You never wanna leave any opportunity of bringing Pakistan down!
Aus were better???? We were better the whole time. And what is well tried?? It wasn't a one sided game.
— Muzammil (@Muzammill110) November 11, 2021"Until today", Come on Man . The fought like warriors unlike the Indian team ,who were the jokers of this event.
— Ali Sher (@AliSher39300632) November 11, 2021Sorry to correct you, it's Pakistan's fate played well and they bowled first against Ind and NZ. Today just their fate betrays them...
— Monojit Saha (@duggu15) November 11, 2021Being the only undefeated team in the Super 12 round, Pakistan were the first squad to make it semi-final round. Under the leadership of Babar Azam, the underdogs showed a lot of conviction when they defeated India by 10 wickets in the opening match, followed by a five-wicket triumph over New Zealand.
The rest of the three matches were against Afghanistan, Namibia and Scotland which were considered to be the relatively weaker sides in their pool and had no problem getting over them in their course to the knockout stage.

However, it was the same old “clutch gene” that Australia is well known for, that allowed them to bat fearlessly while putting more and more pressure on the Pakistani bowlers that ended up breaking the latter’s dream of winning the world cup.
You have united the land truly and you have refreshed it’s mood with promise. We thank you and we are proud the way you fought. Well done boys. #PakistanZindabad

“You have united the land truly and you have refreshed it’s mood with promise. We thank you and we are proud the way you fought. Well done boys,” Pakistan Cricket Board head Ramiz Raja wrote on Twitter after the loss.

Avid traveller Alia couldn’t wait to kick off her long-awaited trip with her GFFs to a pristine mountain getaway in Himachal. As far as she was concerned, the trip was (mostly) on track. The calendar had been cleared, her gang had her leaves approved, and the bunch had even done their respective pre-holiday shopping. But as it so often happens, things don’t always go according to plan. A potentially important meeting of Alia with her business partner meant that the gang had to cancel all plans (well the trip was meant for all and everyone had to be there). Result? Flight tickets were un-booked and unfortunately, Alia couldn’t commit to a new date either. The uncertainty got Alia and the gang worried whether the homestay they had booked would refund their money or not.
Well, we’ve all been in Alia’s shoes to an extent. But surely it need not be this way?
