One show that is taking the world by storm is the surprise hit Netflix South Korean Drama Squid Game. In fact, there is a very good chance that this show might be on your weekend binge list.
Well, the fact is, that the world is surely going bonkers over the show. That’s just how good Korean Dramas are.
© Netflix
Well, Netflix for sure knows that they have a major money-minting show on their hands. Even they believe that Squid Game may do better than their most-watched Originals Show Bridgerton, which was viewed by a record 82 million households across the world.
However, a bizarre development has Netflix executives scratching their heads.
© Netflix
A South Korean internet service provider, SK Broadband, is suing Netflix for the sudden explosion in traffic that they have to deal with, resulting from the show’s immense popularity in the country.
South Korea has one of the fastest internet connection speeds in the world, but even that seems to be going through a series of crises.
According to a statement put out by SK Broadband Netflix’s traffic on the ISP network has exponentially increased, by about 24 times, from 50 Gigabits per second in May 2018 to 1,150 Gigabits in September 2021.
This is basically strangling network speeds for other services, because of which, ISPs need to invest more heavily in their infrastructures.
© Netflix
Netflix has claimed that ISPs such as SK Broadband was trying to “double bill” their subscribers. Given that Netflix users already pay for broadband usage, charging the streaming company as well for the same data, isn’t viable.
South Korea’s legislation around the internet is such that certain websites and services need to pay usage fees for local internet services. Websites like Amazon, Facebook and Apple have had to pay South Korean ISPs a fee based on the traffic they get.
© Netflix
Netflix, in a previous case in front of a South Korean Court, has argued that since its responsibility is to create and provide content not to provide internet to viewers, they should be exempt from paying the ISPs.
© Netflix
Currently, Google’s YouTube, Netflix, and a few other OTT platforms are exempt from paying usage fees to ISPs, which has caused a major debate in South Korea.
SK Broadband plans to charge about $23 million per year for network use, as per local media reports. That would put a significant dent in Netflix’s Korean operations.

Growing up, all of us have fantasised about dressing up as our favourite superheroes and have wondered just how we would save the world if we had superpowers.
Well, a 21-year-old man from Manipur not only dreamt this but also went on to realise the very same dream.
© Twitter/anandmahindra
Ningombam Prem, from Manipur, made a working Iron-Man suit using household stuff like cardboard, and electronic waste.
The suit has several moving parts and, in part, actually functions a lot like Tony Stark’s Iron-Man suit.
Move over Tony Stark. Make way for the REAL Iron Man. And it would be a privilege to assist him & his siblings in their education. If someone can connect me to him, it will be a privilege for me & @KCMahindraEduc1 to support him. ( @jaavedjaaferi for forwarding the video) pic.twitter.com/sKs8V3H8xQ
— anand mahindra (@anandmahindra) September 20, 2021
Anand Mahindra had shared a video of Prem’s suit back in September, and was all awestruck, that how, despite his limited means, Prem had managed to pull off something that most of us can only dream about.
Well, the story doesn’t just end there.
Soon, after his tweet on the 20th of September, a team of engineers from Mahindra, apparently, visited Prem at his makeshift workstation at his house in Imphal, spoke to him, and saw the rudimentarily made Iron-Man suit.
Deeply impressed by the mechanical understanding that Prem possessed, and how he made the working suit all on his own, without any formal training in engineering, they had a word with Mahindra.
I had tweeted about Prem, the young man from Imphal who used scrap material to build an ‘Iron Man’ suit. I was keen to support his obvious talent & I’m grateful to our Auto sector partners, Shivz Autotech in Imphal for visiting Prem & his family to understand his desires. — anand mahindra (@anandmahindra) September 30, 2021
As a result, Anand Mahindra has offered Prem a mentorship under the Chief Design Officer of the Mahindra Group, Pratap Bose. Furthermore, upon Mahindra’s instruction, going forward, Mahindra Foundation would ensure that all the expenses of the education of the young man and his siblings are taken care of, no matter what field they choose to pursue.
I am awestruck & inspired by Prem’s ambition & skills that have flowered despite—not because of—his circumstances. Many of us from privileged backgrounds never appreciated enough the resources we were given. But Prem uses scrap material & basic tools to shape his creations (2/3) pic.twitter.com/YGCjyooCpv
— anand mahindra (@anandmahindra) September 30, 2021 The body of the suit was made using cardboard, whereas the ‘armour’ was constructed from scrap metal. The remote-controlled suit had a headgear that slid about and moved exactly like Tony’s headgear in the iconic Iron-Man suit.
For the suit and the helmet, Prem used several parts that were salvaged from discarded television sets and radios.
Although the suit may not be lifesized, it is fully functional, barring the flight capabilities. Having said that, Prem actually made a full-sized and wearable headgear and an arm from the suit.
Our Group’s Chief Design Officer, @BosePratap is equally inspired by Prem & will be connecting with Prem to mentor his career. @SheetalMehta the head of the Mahindra Foundation will facilitate the continuing education of Prem & his siblings… (3/3) pic.twitter.com/wVDG6MZmYN
— anand mahindra (@anandmahindra) September 30, 2021
A quick glance at his work will reveal that Prem is deeply interested in exoskeletal systems, and perhaps wants to pursue his studies in that arena.
Given Mahindra’s defence businesses contracts, it seems obvious why he would want people to take this field of study up more seriously.
Still, having said that, it is actually quite a positive thing that an industrialist observes and supports an individual, who has a true engineering mind.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni is arguably the best captain in the history of the Indian Premier League. Sure, Rohit Sharma has the most number of titles as a skipper, but when it comes to setting up the field, bringing the right bowlers at the right time, and playing order with the batting order on any given day, Dhoni remains undefeated.
In a video of the match between Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings and Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore from the first leg of IPL 2021, which was recently shared on Instagram, Dhoni’s mind as a captain can be seen working in a completely unique when.
View this post on Instagram
In the 10th over of the match, Dhoni was standing behind batter Glenn Maxwell, ordering commands to his bowler, Ravindra Jadeja. At this moment, the skipper said: Maarne de, soch ke maar mat khana (Let him hit, don’t be afraid of getting hit).”
On the next delivery, Jadeja could be seen delivering a courageous ball to Maxwell, who tried going for a big shot and completely failed to connect.
The bails came off, the stump half ripped, and a confident Jadeja gave a powerful send-off to the Australian hitter.
View this post on Instagram
The highlight came from the same match in which Jadeja had smashed Purple Cap holder Harshal Patel for five sixes and a four in a single over to tally the most expensive over in the history of the league with 37 runs coming off of it.
By the time the match was over, CSK had won by 69 runs and Ravindra Jadeja was declared the Player of the Match by a huge margin, thanks to his unbeaten 62-run innings off just 28 deliveries and bowling figures of 3/13.
View this post on Instagram
It is safe to say that Dhoni is well past his prime as a batter at the age of 40 and someone in his heart, even he knows it. However, it is the CSK skipper’s mind that remains unbeaten.
One look at the way he manages his fields between the overs, making it so much easier for his bowlers to get to work and you too will the brilliance with which he continues to function, despite being away from international cricket for over a year and a half.
View this post on Instagram
That’s exactly why Chennai Super Kings were the first team to qualify for the IPL 2021 Playoffs and that is why the BCCI has made special arrangements for him to accompany the Indian cricket team to the T20 World Cup 2021 as their mentor.
