Indian cricket team head coach Ravi Shastri confirmed that he will part ways after the T20 World Cup concludes in the United Arab Emirates.
The former India all-rounder took charge in 2017 and under his tutelage, Team India has scaled new heights in the last four years.
The Virat Kohli-led side scripted some remarkable victories in the last few years, winning both home and away across formats.
India were the No. 1 side in Test cricket for five consecutive years. Under Kohli, India became the first Asian team to win a Test series in Australia and followed it up with a back-to-back Test series win earlier this year.

The 59-year-old former India player has no qualms about going out because he believes according to him he has “over-achieved” during his tenure.
“I believe so because I’ve achieved all I wanted. Five years as No 1 (in Test cricket), to win in Australia twice, to win in England. I spoke to Michael Atherton earlier this summer and said: ‘For me, this is the ultimate – to beat Australia in Australia and win in England in Covid times.’ We lead England 2-1 and the way we played at Lord’s and the Oval was special,” Shastri said in an interview with The Guardian.
“We’ve also beaten every country in the world in their own backyard in white-ball cricket. If we win the (T20) World Cup that will be the icing on the cake. There is nothing more. I believe one thing – never overstay your welcome. And I would say that, in terms of what I wanted to get out of the side, I’ve over-achieved. To beat Australia away and to lead the series in England in a Covid year? It is the most satisfying moment of my four decades in cricket,” he added.

Despite delivering the results in different parts of the world, Shastri never got the respect he deserved. People often made fun of his drinking habits and didn’t miss a single opportunity to troll him but Shastri didn’t care.
However, after this announcement fans took to Twitter and acknowledged his hard work. They thanked him for giving them some wonderful memories over the years and transforming India into one of the best Test sides in world cricket and instilling in them a belief they could win away from home. But most of them were happy because of a selfish reason.

Before becoming India’s head coach Shastri was regarded as one of the best cricket commentators in the world and most fans were delighted with the fact that they would now be able to hear him weave magic with his voice once again, just like he did when MS Dhoni hit that six off Nuwan Kulasekara in 2011 to end India’s 28-year drought for a World Cup trophy.
Thank you Ravi Shastri for good memories. Hope your commentary career continues I miss your voice

And india will must win this icc trophy for him
— Yogeshsingh3765 (@YogeshS60079723) September 18, 2021Sad. India's one of greatest coach. Took team to new heights just want him to win a trophy now
— @India (@firebal_india) September 18, 2021Sir plz come back in com box @RaviShastriOfc
— MSDian Ansh (@Ansh_MSDian) September 18, 2021So his commentary will be back
— Likith Sai (@Licap06) September 18, 2021 He might have made it official now, fans already knew that the T20 World Cup would be his last assignment with the Indian team because as per the BCCI rules the maximum age limit for the head coach job is 60 years and Shastri celebrated his 59th birthday this year.

For Shastri, the only regret, if any, would have been that he couldn’t land any ICC trophies during his tenure. India went down fighting against New Zealand in the 2019 ODI World Cup semi-final and lost to the same opposition in the World Test Championship final earlier this year.
The next month’s T20 World Cup is his last chance to win silverware and it would be every fan would love to see him end his tenure on a high with a trophy in his hand.
