Having a veteran off-spinner like Ravichandran AshwinΒ speaks volumes of the strong bench strength that Indian possesses at the moment. Traditionally known for producing world-class spinners, India currently has one of the best, if not the best, fast-bowling attacks in the world.Β

The conditions in England are conducive for fast-bowling but leaving someone of Ashwinβs calibre out is never a choice for any skipper and it always draws criticism from all quarters. The same thing happened when Ashwin was left on the sidelines for the second game running, when most experts expected him to replace Shardul Thakur in the Playing XI after he was ruled out due to a hamstring injury.
When the team was announced, Kohliβs team selection faced heavy scrutiny but as the game progressed people understood the logic behind it. Talking about his team selection, Kohli had said he was confident of his sideβs batting unit and needed an extra pacer to put pressure on the English batsmen from both ends, throughout the game.

As for Ashwin he was hopeful of starting the match but he would have started the game, if not for the rain. The team management had told the off-spinner that he might play the Lordβs Test because of the βheatwaveβ but just before the match he was left heartbroken as London weather took a u-turn and it started to rain heavily.
βThe funny thing was, before the match, they were like, βThereβs a heatwave. You please be ready mate. You might play.β Upon coming to breakfast in the morning, rain started lashing out. I asked, βWonβt you tell me about the heatwave after it came? Why give me hope only for it to end in disappointment!β,β Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.Β

Despite the rain on Day 1, the Lordβs pitch slowed down considerably as the match progressed and everyone thought Indiaβs decision to pick four pacer would come back to haunt them. But Indian pacers bowled out of their skin despite not getting any help from the pitch and proved their skipper right by picking up all 20 wickets on a dead surface.
Mohammed SirajΒ was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors as he snapped eight wickets-- four each in both innings. Ishant Sharma, who was included in place of Thakur, also provided crucial breakthroughs and accounted for five dismissals.

Taliban fighters have picked up 150 people and most of them are believed to be Indian citizens. The Taliban fighters captured the hostages outside the gates of Hamid Karzai International Airport according to NDTV.Β
The Indian Foreign Ministry is trying to confirm this development at the moment.
The reported abduction reportedly happened hours after an Indian Air Force C-130J transport plane managed to evacuate 85 Indians from Kabul. The plane has safely landed in Dushanbe in Tajikistan, according to NDTVβs sources.Β

Sources have also added that Taliban officials βapproached themβ while they were on their way to the Hamid Karzai International Airport in minivans at around 1:00 AM. Sources also added that when they could not enter the airport due to lack of cooperation, the Taliban "took them all to Tarakhil, an eastern neighbourhood in the capital Kabul, after beating them physically.β
Ahmadullah Waseq, a Taliban spokesman has denied this report to a member of the Afghan media that reported on this story according to ANI. It is now being reported by Afghan media that they are being held for questioning at a nearby police station and are in no immediate danger. Back-channel talks are ongoing to secure the release of all Indian citizens, the reports added.
Foreign Minister S Jaishankar said earlier this week that the Government is βvery carefullyβ monitoring the situation in Kabul and the rest of Afghanistan. However, the immediate focus is currently on evacuating all citizens.Β

India has evacuated all embassy staff but it is estimated that about 1,000 Indian citizens still remain in Afghanistan. The Indian government is trying to ascertain the location and condition of missing citizens but is proving to be a challenge, as not all of them are registered with the embassy, a Home Ministry official said.Β
Among the 1,000 citizens, 200 Sikhs and Hindus have taken refuge at a gurdwara in Kabul. The Taliban took control of Afghanistan last week Sunday after President Ashraf Ghani fled. The group entered Kabul with no opposition.

India have been the dominant sides in the opening two matches of the five-Test series against England. They were the clear favourites to win the opening Test in Nottingham before the rain came to Englandβs rescue on the final day and the match ended in a draw.
The second Test at LordβsΒ was a lot more exciting than the series opener and it went to the wire. But Indiaβs spirited bowling performance forced the hosts into submission at the iconic venue.

Having taken a 1-0 series lead, everything seems to be well in control at the moment but there was a time when India had lost multiple players due to injuries before the series began and there were more questions than solutions.
But the credit for this quick turnaround goes to all the players who stood up and took the responsibility to bail the team out of trouble at different points in the game.

After such a strong performance at Lordβs, no expects the team management to make wholesale changes in the Playing XI for the third Test in Leeds, which means players who are currently on the bench are likely to stay put.
Among those warming the bench is young opener Prithvi Shaw and it seems he has already lost all his energy while waiting for his turn. Rohit SharmaΒ posted a picture on his Instagram story where Shaw and Shardul ThakurΒ could be seen sleeping inside the team bus.
Β© Instagram/Rohit Sharma
Tagging both the cricketers, who hail from Maharashtra, Rohit wrote: βWhen sleep is lifeβ. While Shaw slept on the seats, Thakur took a more desi approach and lay down on the floor of the bus, which got the fans talking.Β
Thakur was part of the Playing XI in Nottingham but was ruled out of the Lordβs Test with a hamstring injury. He had picked up four wickets at Trent Bridge and was replaced by Ishant Sharma in the starting XI in the second match.Β
Β© Twitter/Wasim Jaffer
Indian skipper Virat KohliΒ has already expressed how highly he rates Shardul due to his all-round abilities. Apart from troubling the batsmen with his swing, Thakur can also score handy runs down the order which provides the team with a perfect balance.Β
Β© Instagram/Prithvi Shaw
If he is fit for the next game, it would be interesting to see if Kohli and head coach Ravi Shastri would drop someone to accommodate him in the Playing XI, especially after the way all the four fast bowlers performed in the previous match.Β
As for Shaw, he is way behind the pecking order at the moment as an opener and there is no chance he features in the starting XI, ahead of KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal and it is clear he is not ready to lose his sleep worrying about anything.

After the Taliban took over Afghanistan, horrific images and videos emerged online that shocked the world. However, the scariest video to surface from the aftermath was when two young Afghans who were desperate for freedom, fell off the plane while it was taking off from Kabul Airport. The video has been viewed millions of times across the world, but ex-army man Ajay Chettri witnessed it first-hand.Β
Β© YouTube/NBC News
Chhetri, a former Indian soldier, saw the entire incident happen right in front of his eyes. Chettri has now arrived in India safely from Afghanistan. He was evacuated in an Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft on 17th August and has now returned to Dehradun.Β
In an interview with Times of India, he said that he was still shocked at what he saw at Kabul airport.Β 60 year old Ajay Chettri lived in Afghanistan for more than a decade and was also scared to leave the city in such chaotic circumstances.Β
βWhat I will never forget is how people were running side by side as the US cargo planes carrying hundreds of Afghans took off,β Chhetri said.
Β© Twitter
βOne of the planes had left the ground but people were still clinging to its wheel. A little later, I saw two bodies drop down from the sky. It was horrific and I couldnβt take it anymore,β said Chettri.Β
The ex-Indian Army-man worked in Kabul as a security officer. After the Taliban captured the capital, hundreds of people rushed to the Airport. He was accompanied by his sister-in-law, Savita Shahi and decided to turn back from the Airport for a NATO shelter that was a few meters away. Shahi, who worked as an assistant to a US medical team in Kabul.Β Β

Shahi detailed that arrangements had been made to leave for India however reaching Kabul Airport avoiding the Taliban was a challenge. A team of seven people left the camp at 3:30 AM in the morning and Chettri said they were praying that the Taliban would not stop them at a checkpoint. Chettri said that they were worried right up until the IAF plane reached Kabul at 6:00 AM.Β Β
Shahi and Chettri were evacuated from Kabul after they learned the IAF plane was scheduled to leave the city the next day with Indian diplomats and embassy staff. βOn our request, the embassy officials agreed to adjust five of us on the flight home. Two more Indians joined us later and they were also accommodated in the rescue flight,β she said.Β Β
