22 years ago, our Kargil heroes fought relentlessly to bring back the glory of the country. The bravery and selflessness they displayed were celebratory and we have been celebrating these heroes every year but it’s still not enough because it takes courage to sacrifice your life. To honour these Kargil heroes, Dharma Productions collaborated with director Vishnu Vardhan and recreated Kargil, and paid their respects to the legend Vikram BatraΒ and others who reclaimed the power of the country.
When a director is telling a story of a real figure and an incident that has many sentiments attached to it, it becomes all the way more difficult to portray everything just right on the screen because the research material is already available on online archives. If it’s about recreating Kargil scenes, I can say that the makers have done a great job because it looked real. The bunkers being blasted and the gunfire scenes gave authenticity to the narrative.

Just three days before the patriotic feel completely sinks in, we have the story of Captain Vikram Batra aka Shershaah making us boast about the country’s past achievements. A guy so dramatic who cuts his finger and fills the β€˜maang’ of his fiancΓ©e Dimple before heading for the final battle of his life. It might look way too much to consume for viewers if they hadn’t known about Vikram.

All the scenes are portrayed as narrated by Vikram’s brother Vishal Batra. From Vikram’s childhood to his romance with Dimple to his heroic Kargil fight, the director stayed true to the real narrative but this is what is making it more challenging as it’s difficult to capture a real person’s life in just 2 hours of run time but ShershaahΒ does a decent job.

Sidharth Malhotra plays Shershaah and Kiara steps into the shoes of Dimple. They did have chemistry in their scenes but their scenes didn’t get us glued to the screens. The last scene wherein she cries after seeing her love of life bidding a final farewell does make you emotional. The scenes wherein the main Kargil fight is being portrayed will keep you hooked as cinematographer Kamaljeet Negi does a great job of capturing the tension around the biggest fight between India and Pakistan.

The recapturing of Pt 4875 was shown in detail and it did make my eyes swell up when I saw Vikram Batra die but he had no regrets of losing his life and Sid did portray the emotions.

As I was saying the director kept the narrative close to the real story, there’s a scene wherein a TV journalist is interviewing Vikram, and Sidharth mouths the similar lines that our hero said years back about his confrontation with a Pakistani soldier on the radio telecom service.

Sidharth has what it takes to portray Vikram Batra but I also felt the movie should have been a little more energetic in its tone. I also can't take away the fact that it's one of the best performances by Sidharth in his cinematic career. The screenplay does look a bit stretched but doesn’t tire you. Kiara’s scenes were less and it felt that she was restricted because of how her character was written on paper. It’s only the last scenes wherein you connect to her. Shiv Panditt, Sahil Vaid, Nikitin Dheer, and all the other actors who portrayed war heroes did a great job in lifting the narrative.

As a viewer, I did get jitters but as a movie reviewer, I felt that it could have been a bit better. In a nutshell, Sidharth’s movie Shershaah is watchable but β€˜yeh dil mange more’.

Ajay DevgnΒ is one of the most famous 90s heroes who has managed to stay successful and relevant amongst all generations. His fit physique, good acting and an intelligent line up of movies ensure that his fans continue to like him.

While he’s gearing up for the remake of the Tamil hit Kaithi, here are 6 other movies which were basically a copy of other South IndianΒ  movies:
1.Β SinghamRohit Shetty’s cop universe began with this one and is one of the best roles essayed by the actor. However, the original Tamil movie Singam starred Anushka Shetty and Suriya. The movie had Ajay play the role of an honest cop who wants to kick out and fight corruption and crime.

2.Β DrishyamAnother mega hit which is a remake of a Malayalam movie by the same name. This critically acclaimed hit had Ajay play the role of a common man who ends up becoming a murder suspect and also stars Tabu in a lead role.

3.Β Action JacksonThis Prabhu deva directed entertainer was the remake of Telugu hit Dookudu and tells the love story of a small-time crook.

4.Β Golmaal: Fun UnlimitedNot many people who follow Bollywood know that this super hit comic series was actually inspired from a Malayalam movie Kakakuyil, and follows four small-time crooks who dupe an old couple as they live in their bungalow. This comedy of errors gave rise to a full series and is a very successful franchise.

5.Β Son Of SardaarThis movie was a thorough entertainer and true Ajay fans know that this is copied from S Rajamouli’s Maryada Ramanna, which was remade in four different languages. Another comedy of errors which follows a Punjabi munda trying to find love amidst the family dispute that he witnesses after coming back to his hometown.

6.Β HimmatwalaThough a commercial dud, this movie is copied from a Telugu hit called Oodiki Monagadu and follows the story of an evil landlord whose tortures forces a man to commit suicide. Years later, his son seeks revenge and ends up marrying the landlord’s daughter.

It is safe to say that our Singham is the king of south Indian remakes.Β

The captain of the Indian hockey team, Β Manpreet SinghΒ has returned to the homeland as a legend after his side won the first hockey medal at the Olympics for India in over 41 years. Ever since his journey back home, he has been crowded by fans, media and common people for selfies and interviews.
However, for Manpreet, the best way to spend the days after winning the bronze at the Tokyo Olympics 2020, was to keep his head in his smiling mother’s lap and shut his eyes and he finally got to do so on Wednesday. In a post the skipper shared from his official Twitter handle, Manpreet wrote a heartwarming message for his mother alongside a beautiful picture of the athlete in complete peace.
Just seeing her smile and knowing how proud she is of me brings a smile to my face too - won’t be here today without her #therealwinner #loveyoumama pic.twitter.com/EwRadU7z5E
    β€” Manpreet Singh (@manpreetpawar07) August 11, 2021
β€œJust seeing her smile and knowing how proud she is of me brings a smile to my face too - won’t be here today without her,” he wrote. In the picture Manpreet’s mother could also be seen wearing her son’s medal around her neck, and completely filled with pride and happiness.
"It is a big thing for hockey because after 41 years we won a medal. The last medal came before I was born and this medal will work as a big motivation for the future generation," he had said after it was official that the Indian squad had won.
Here’s how Manpreet’s fans reacted to this gesture of his:
You do know that she love me more than you right #igiveyouthechancetoday
β€” ǁŁŁǁ ₦λJβ‚©Ξ» SλÐÐǁQUE (@illisaddique) August 11, 2021The mother gives the same space & lap to her kid whether s/he wins or loses, brings medal or not.But today, by placing the Olympic medal around her neck you showed the world the respect mothers deserve. You not only won the medal, but also won hearts of millions with your humility.
β€” LDas (@LDas10514553) August 11, 2021So beautiful I remember her interview when reporter asked her about how she feels now she said' Main 60 yrs ki hu par aaj main 120 yrs ki ho gyi hu. Mere bete ne meri umar bada di mothers are pure love. So so heartening see her
β€” Kiranm (@Bindiya91127690) August 11, 2021One of the most precious thing...mein bhi aise hi Maa ki Godd mein late jaata tha jab wo mere saath is duniya mein thi...jab wo sar pe haath pherti thi to saari tension saare dukh bhool jaata tha...Maa
β€” P K Mathur (@PKumar96150948) August 11, 2021This is going to inspire million of sons including mine....kudos to proud maa and beta...@manpreetpawar07
β€” Nabh (@vnsaregama) August 11, 2021Back on the day when India defeated Germany, Manpreet’s first gesture was to dedicate the victory and the medal to all the COVID-19 warriors who dedicated everything they’ve got just to help the rest of the world survive the dreadful pandemic.
β€œI don’t know what to say right now, it was fantastic. The effort, the game, we were 3-1 down. I think we deserve this medal. We have worked so hard, the last 15 months were difficult for us also, we were in Bangalore and some of us got COVID also,” Manpreet recalled. β€œWe would like to dedicate this medal to doctors and frontline health workers who have saved so many lives in India,” he said.
Manpreet and four other teammates of his were tested COVID-19 back inΒ  August 2020 and he continues to remember the fight that he had to go through just to reach his prior fitness levels after recovering from the virus.
