In the past few years, Jasprit Bumrah has become a leader of India’s fast-bowling unit, despite the team boasting of senior bowlers like Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav and it has only been possible because of his performances on the field.
However, the last few months haven’t gone as well as he would have liked and he received criticism for not performing to his full potential during the World Test Championship final against New Zealand in Southampton.

Bumrah is known for his unique bowling action and that is what sets him apart from other fast bowlers but it seems like it has started to take a toll on his body. He has suffered two major injuries in the last couple of years and former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar feels that because of his action he runs the risk of “breaking down completely” if his workload isn’t managed by the management.

“His bowling is based on frontal action. Players with that action bowl with their backs and shoulder speed. We used to be side-on, and that is a compensation. Front action has no compensation and with that action, when the back blows out, you can’t escape it irrespective of how much you try,” Akhtar said in a video posted on Sports Tak YouTube channel.

Akhtar, who bowled the world’s fastest ball, gave examples of bowlers like Ian Bishop and Shane Bond who both had frontal actions just like Bumrah and they didn’t last very long because of the excessive workload.
“I saw (Ian) Bishop’s back blowing out, Shane Bond’s back blowing out, and both had frontal actions. Bumrah now needs to think in this way, ‘I played a match, took an off, and go to rehab’. He needs to manage. If you play him every match, in one year, he will completely break down. Play him three matches out of five and take him out. Bumrah will have to manage this one thing if he wants to last forever,” he explained.

The ‘Rawalpindi Express’ gave his own example of how he was overused by the Pakistan Cricket Board who didn’t pay any heed to his requests of giving him some rest between the matches.

“I kept telling Pakistan Cricket Board, ‘do not make me play all five matches. I am a three ODI fast bowler and my knees won’t allow it’. When I started my years in 1997, my knees couldn’t take the pressure. Whenever I played five matches, knees would get filled with water and my movement went away. I got tired of asking them to use me in three matches out of five but unfortunately, I had to manage this myself,” he added.

As India gear up take on England in a five-Test series, starting next month, the Virat Kohli ’s side want a fit and firing Bumrah if they want to clinch the series, which they haven’t since 2007.

Bumrah has been instrumental to Team India’s success in the last few years but clearly his body has become susceptible to injuries and if the management doesn’t start managing his workload we might not enjoy his services for a longer period.

A video of an internet cafe that surfaced online shows boys playing a multiplayer game even though the cafe had been flooded with rainwater. The boys clearly ignored the rainwater that came up to their seats and continued to play the game despite the risk of being electrocuted.

Sio Samson, the owner of the cafe in Cainta, Philippines recorded the weird encounter last week which has now gone viral. In the video, you can see that he tried to move the boys as the room kept filling with rainwater and was worried they could either be washed away or be killed by an electric shock.

The owner said, ‘We didn’t know the flood water would rise that day so when I saw them, I immediately took action and told them that I have to transfer the equipment to a higher place. After that video, they also stopped and left, none of us was hurt."

What saved the boys from getting electrocuted was that all of the electric cables in the cafe were above the water level and plugged into power sockets that were above head height. It’s a very common feature in homes and shops that are in areas prone to flooding.

The Typhoon In-Fa has been wreaking havoc in parts of the Philippines which has caused numerous homes and businesses to flood. Thousands of people were evacuated from areas that were worst hit. The floods have also destroyed agricultural land and crops.

The storm is now heading towards the East China Sea and has become even more intense, causing heavy downpours across Luzon island. The same typhoon had caused dozens of deaths in China and caused severe floods last week.

Needless to say, these kids at the internet cafe were taking a massive risk by continuing to play even when surrounded by water. It was fortunate that all the power cables and outlets were above head height but it’s still quite risky as not only can PC components fry, it could have caused a power surge if the water went above by a slight fraction.

Former Pakistan cricket captain Wasim Akram recently compared the state of the current Pakistani squad with the grit and toughness of the Indian cricket team and spoke about the need to play against tough opponents in order to get better as a whole.
After the Pakistani side got completely bundled up by an in-form England team during the ODI and T20I series, Akram blamed the Pakistan Cricket Board’s organising committee which is responsible for planning out bilateral series and decide the squad’s annual schedule.

The left-arm pacer feels that Pakistan getting dominated by the Englishmen is the outcome of the team getting too comfortable playing against weaker sides. As a result, when they are rallied against a top-tier side, they end up with devastating conclusions.
"I want to meet that genius who is organising tours of Zimbabwe. I want to offer him extra praise and say 'well done, you've done a great job'. It is not going to benefit us. It will only be helpful for them,” Akram said on ARY News.

He then went on to compare the Pakistani squad with the jam-packed schedule that their neighbouring rivals, the Men in Blue are stuffed with, and how they continue to take on high-level oppositions like Australia and England constantly.
“Once in four years, I'm ok with that. If you compare with India. Their one team is in Sri Lanka, another is in England. And they can raise another team. They improved their system 10 years ago. They invested money, brought in professionals," the legendary bowler added while addressing the two Team India strings that are presently stationed in England and Sri Lanka respectively.

Between 8-13 July, Pakistan and England were in the middle of a three-match ODI series in which the touring side experienced a complete whitewash and the margin of defeat was huge in every match. First, they lost by 9 wickets, then by 52 runs in the second ODI, and then were unable to stop the Englishmen from chasing down a 331-run total in the third match.
However, they did manage to win the first T20I, before getting thrashed in the two games that followed.
