Ishan Kishan could not have asked for a better way to celebrate his birthday than by making his One-Day International debut for the Indian cricket team and scoring a stunning half-century in a hurry to enjoy the victory.
After a 21-year-old Prithvi Shaw gave a crackling start to the Indian batting order, smashing a ‘Player of the Match’ winning 43 off 24 deliveries, in came Kishan to join his newly appointed skipper Shikhar Dhawan in the middle.

In a complete mood to enjoy his younger teammates taking an aggressive outlook towards the match from the beginning, Dhawan calmly stood at the non-striker’s end as Kishan got himself three to four metres out of the crease to hit a six on the first ever ODI ball that he was going to face.

As the ball connected and flew past the ropes, the southpaw knew that he was in for a hell of a debut. Displaying raw power, it was as if every shot that he was racing towards the boundary. There were a few strikes for which none of the Lankan players even cared to move, already knowing that they would be able to stop it.
    View this post on Instagram
Reaching the 50-run mark in just 33 deliveries, Kishan became the second-fastest cricketer to score a half century in ODIs. He also became only the second batsman to score a 50 in his T20I and ODI debuts.
While his batting performance was phenomenal, he said something after the match that is attracting a lot of attention and praise from his fans about the kind of mentality with which he stepped on to that field to bat.
    View this post on Instagram
In a conversation with teammate Yuzvendra Chahal, Kishan revealed that he had already announced in the dressing room that he was going to attempt hitting a six on the very first delivery that he was going to face - and that’s exactly what he did.
“I knew that it was the right time to go for a six on the first ball. I already told you guys that no matter who the bowler was and no matter where he was going to bowl, I was going to send him for a six on the very first delivery,” Kishan told Chahal on his famous ‘Chahal TV’ segment.

    Here’s how the fans reacted:
I dont understand why some people are underrating Kishan. He has been performing in IPL since last 2 seasons, played well against England in T20i and yesterday scored a wonderful 50. Still some ppl dont value him.

absolutely fantastic this attitude shows the good competition they are getting in domestic and taking no pressure

Because of this confidence today he is playing for India 🏻

I wish i had 50% of his confidence and prediction ability lol.
    — Andre (@AndreIsOP) July 19, 2021
However, there were also a few critics who labelled Kishan “overconfident” and “overrated slogger”:
Over confidence is injurious for life ..!!

We hope virat tell him this very well
    — Yogeshsingh3765 (@YogeshS60079723) July 19, 2021
Be confident but not over overconfident.
    — Vijay Patel (@vijaypatel1528) July 19, 2021
Ishan Kishan is a glorified slogger, over praised and over hyped..
    — Krishnan (@krakinkrish) July 19, 2021
    immaturity to perfection
    — YOGESH VASHIST🇮🇳 (@yugofficial) July 19, 2021
Kishan’s six on the first ball and Shaw opening his innings with a boundary are proof of the mindset with which the new generation of Indian cricketers are training themselves to have an impact at the international level.
Sure, such a thought process may not be ideal for Test cricket (something India needs some introspection with at the moment), however, when it comes to limited-overs cricket, it is safe to say that the future is in some very capable hands.

The Pegasus Spyware, which is sold by the NSO Group of Israel, may have been used to snoop on 300 Indians including two Cabinet ministers at the Centre. The spyware was also used to spy on three opposition leaders, a Constitutional authority, government officials, scientists and about 40 journalists, according to The Washington Post and Amnesty International that was part of a 17-member group of news organisations that worked on the ‘Pegasus Project’.
The list also included businessmen, activists, and those from the legal fraternity. A number registered in the name of a Supreme Court judge was also found in the database. It is unclear whether the judge was using the same number to communicate on WhatsApp and other messaging services.
    © Reuters
The leaked database also included writers and correspondents working at the Hindustan Times, The Hindu, India Today, Indian Express and Network18. Details of journalists like Shishir Gupta, Siddharth Vardarajan, M.K. Venu, Sushant Singh, Rohini Singh, Muzamil Jaleel, Ritika Chopra and Swati Chaturvedi were also found in the list.

What’s weird is that the NSO Group says it only sells the Pegasus Spyware to “vetted” governments. This indicates that Pegasus was either used by a foreign government which could be a severe security breach or the Indian Government has been using the spyware to spy on its own citizens. It is reported that the NGO group has “60 government customers in 40 countries.”
How Does Pegasus Work? © Amnesty-International
Earlier versions of the Pegasus Project utilised a tactic called ‘spear phishing’ where the user of the spyware would send the targeted device an SMS or email with a link. Once the recipient would click on the link, it would download the spyware on the device and start transmitting information to the attacker.

However, Pegasus has now evolved and can now execute something called a ‘zero-click' attack. This means the spyware can infiltrate a device without any action from the target. WhatsApp revealed in 2019 that the Pegasus spyware can find its way into a device via a WhatsApp call and works even if the user did not answer the call.
According to The Guardian, the Pegasus Project has now “begun exploiting vulnerabilities in Apple’s iMessage software, giving it backdoor access to hundreds of millions of iPhones.” WhatsApp has sued the NSO Group in the US for hacking into its service, Apple says “it is continually updating its software to prevent such attacks.”
What is Pegasus Capable Of? © Reuters
Once the Pegasus spyware has been planted on a device, it has the ability to see SMS, emails, photos and videos, and access contact lists and call records. It can also track the GPS location of the target and can be used to activate the camera and the microphone which essentially turns the targeted device into a surveillance tool.

What’s even more concerning is that Pegasus is impossible to detect. The Guardian says, “more recent versions of Pegasus only ever inhabit the phone’s temporary memory, rather than its hard drive, meaning that once the phone is powered down virtually all trace of the software vanishes.”

The pandemic cooped us all in the four walls of our houses and forced us to bring our work to our home.
It’s been more than a year that most of us have been working from home and while some can’t wait to go back to their office, there are some who would rather not.
People who belong to the latter section recently discussed why they don’t want to go back to work, anytime soon.

While the indefinite EODs and never- ending zoom call meetings can be incredibly stressful, it is still better than putting on pants in the morning and being stuck in traffic to get to the workspace can be unpleasant.

Plus, for people dealing with mental health issues like anxiety, depression and more, it can be overwhelming to meet hundreds of people on a daily basis.
    © iStock
Remote work allows us to work in our comfort zone, be it alone or with our family or friends around. Apart from that, it gives the flexibility to work according to our time and comfort, without having the fear of being observed and judged.

Also, people have been working from cafes, a friend's house and even from an Airbnb as and when they please.
    © iStock
People struggling with mental illness and mental health issues shared how work from home has been more of a blessing than a bane for them.

Someone on Twitter shared, “As someone who suffers from depression, anxiety, and insomnia, some days the idea of going into an office (or, frankly, leaving my home at all) is just ... completely overwhelming. but I can function well enough to do my work at home on my own terms.”
And, more people said they could relate to it.
as someone who suffers from depression, anxiety, and insomnia, some days the idea of going into an office (or, frankly, leaving my home at all) is just ... completely overwhelming. but i can function well enough to do my work at home on my own terms
    — heather schmelzlen (@anchorlines) July 14, 2021
Here is the wholesome thread that is a testimony of how work from home has been really helpful for people struggling with mental health issues.
it has 100% been instrumental in me 1) doing well at my job 2) balancing everything else, mental health included. Not having to worry about functioning in a place filled with other people for several hours a day is...beyond helpful.
    — melwrites (@melwrites5) July 14, 2021Yes this is so true. I have anxiety and sometimes am very low functioning. I never realized how draining coming into the office was until I WFH for a year. There's no way I can go back. I can't handle the stress anymore and I'm way happier now & feel more balanced.
    — Serahe (@SeraheWrites) July 15, 2021Me and my sensory issues had a DAY at the office today. I don’t know how long I can do this.

WFH time was the most successful I’ve been able to feel since I was in my 20s.
    — Sarah B (@thesarahbot) July 14, 2021My anxiety disorder is pretty much manageable without medication largely due to working from home.

Still get some spikes but not nearly as much or as severe.

The trick tho is making sure I go outside and get some fresh air and take a walk. So theres a slight drawback there
    — Levi (Retroinactive) (@RetroInactive) July 16, 2021It is literally life changing for some of us.
Also my friend who is in a wheelchair saying that she has spent the last year not having to make coworkers feel comfortable around her - no one knows she is disabled at her job now. (new team)...she is not thrilled about going back.
    — Cautiously Pessimistic (@PantherAlyxx) July 15, 2021It’s great that this ‘new normal’ has helped people deal with their mental health issues better.

A lot of people also said that their productivity increased because they could focus better on work.

While some people wouldn’t think twice before rejoining office, there are many who are finding this more beneficial for them.

What do you think? Should work from home be an option for employees even after the pandemic gets over?

Bollywood, being India's premier film industry, is certainly known to be quite big due to the number of actors, directors, and producers working in it. Despite being large in size, the fact remains that it still is a very close-knitted industry where word spreads really fast, and literally everywhere.
Bollywood is known to be a big stage for bigger egos, and there is nothing that spreads faster than news of feuds between Bollywood stars, with none being quite as renowned as the feud between Shah Rukh Khan and Sunny Deol.
    © Reuters
The duo was a part of Yash Chopra's 1993 Indian romantic psychological thriller film Darr, which obviously played an integral role in SRK becoming a household name. Unlike SRK's usual roles, the actor really held his own by becoming the anti-hero in the film, with audiences loving the villain more than the actual hero (Sunny Deol). However, despite the success of the film, SRK and Sunny had a huge public spat that went on for almost two decades.

Sunny, who now rarely appears in films, spoke about the incident during his appearance on Aap Ki Adalat, and explained the entire course of events during the filming of the movie.
The actor said that he had disagreements with Yash Chopra on the climax involving SRK's character stabbing his commando character. “I had a heated discussion with Yash Chopra regarding that scene. I tried explaining that I am a commando officer in the film. My character is an expert and fit, then how can this boy beat me easily? He can beat me if I can’t see him. If he can stab me while I am looking at him, then I won’t be called a commando,” said Sunny

After making his captaincy debut, Shikhar Dhawan is already being compared to the mainstream Indian cricket skipper Virat Kohli when talking about the two cricketers’ ability to lead a squad.
Dhawan has captained in only one freaking match. Just one. He did well and these people have already started badmouthing virat kohli's captaincy. Unreal agenda man. pic.twitter.com/bsGBgint0g
    — Akshay (@theakshay18) July 19, 2021
I think India is losing some best captaincy material like Dhawan, Rohit, earlier Gambhir, Raina in the era of great captains like Dhoni and Kohli
    — Divanshu Rawat (@rawat_divanshu) July 18, 2021
    Dhawan Captaincy >>> Kohli Captaincy #SLvIND #INDvSL #INDvsSL
    — MSR (@itz_chillax) July 18, 2021
We’ve got to agree that it was a substantial victory for Dhawan to start his journey as the leader of the locker room. After wrapping up the hosts for a mere 262-run total in the first half of the first ODI, the Indian batsmen chose aggression over subtlety and ended the match with 80 deliveries and seven wickets to spare.
The young batters like Prithvi Shaw and Ishan Kishan looked completely comfortable and were allowed to play their aggressive games from the beginning (as both opened their respective innings with boundaries) and went on to score big runs in very few deliveries.
    View this post on Instagram
Additionally, the Indian bowlers, especially the spinners got to create magic on the field and the much-anticipated return of Kul-Cha (Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal) to the roster after two whole years was met with a lot of success. Not only did Dhawan read the pitch nicely, he also brought in the spinners at the right time to scalp five wickets when the Men in Blue needed it the most.
Individually also, Dhawan looked in absolute control. While playing second-fiddle to Shaw and Kishan initially, the southpaw decided to take charge and finish the match with his own two hands as he struck an unbeaten 86 while taking the final run and bringing home the first win of the series.

On the other hand, Virat Kohli, the captain of the A-String of the Indian cricket team, suffered a massive loss when his team was crushed by the New Zealand cricketers in the final of the World Test Championship.
He has been questioned by the critics for getting the team selection wrong for the WTC final (playing Ravindra Jadeja over Shardul Thakur), his name has come up more than once in backstage politics, he’s being blamed for trying to make Cheteshwar Pujara look like a scapegoat and he hasn’t been the best version of himself as a batsman for a while now.
Is Shikhar Dhawan a better captain than Virat Kohli?
    Absolutely not.
It's quite funny that some fans, after yesterday's match saying Dhawan's leadership >>> Rohit and Kohli. These people are never satisfied. Plastic Kirket experts imo.
    — Priscilla 🇮🇳 (@priscicktgirl) July 19, 2021
The biggest factor while comparing the two and their performances as skippers in the very limited sample size we have at the moment has to be the competition they faced.
In the latest contest, Kohli went against the best Test side in the world at the moment, who had the advantage of getting accustomed to the England weather way before the Indian players did. Not to forget the extremely unforgiving conditions during the final that kept changing the required conditions on the pitch and the ground, rendering Indian spinners almost useless by the end. Yes, he has been struggling to put on a show with the bat but remains one of the top-5 batsmen in Tests, second in ODIs and fifth in T20Is which shows that he’s still a world class athlete.
    View this post on Instagram
Whereas, Dhawan faced a Sri Lankan team with their marquee players suspended after being found to be flouting the COVID-19 protocols in the United Kingdom. Also, the spin-friendly Asian pitches also played a huge part in bringing success to Chahal and Yadav.
Shikhar Dhawan did exceedingly well to lead a young team to a confident and one-sided victory and there is no second-guessing that. However, to compare with someone like Virat Kohli, even in his current state is outrageous and not even Dhawan would want this to happen.

With films like Pink, Manmarziyaan, Mulk, Thappad, and more, Taapsee Pannu has proved that if you have talent, nothing can stop you from making it big in an industry infamous for being biased towards outsiders. After working for more than a decade, Taapsee has added one more feather to her hat by announcing her own production house Outsiders Films. She is collaborating with Pranjal Khandhdiya for the venture, who has been working as a content creator and producer for 20 years.
View this post on InstagramPeople were happy that she is finally doing it for all the outsiders like her, who struggle to find a mentor in the industry who can support them in the industry. Asked if her new production house would be a platform for outsiders in the film industry, Taapsee Pannu told Hindustan Times, "I never claimed that I will give work to outsiders. I did not say that. I said 'I need to give back to people who made me who I am today - the industry and audience.' I have always taken this tag of 'outsider' with pride. I genuinely feel the outsider’s view is better. I think I have been able to pull off the kind of films I did because I had a regular ‘outsider' life till now. I take that as a compliment."
View this post on InstagramShe also added that she doesn’t want to be like those people who have been unfair in their approach and chose actors on the basis of their background and not their talent. She wants to give opportunities to actors who genuinely deserve it regardless of their background and connections.
“If I start thinking that I will only give work to outsiders, then I will be like those people who give work only to star kids. I will be equally biased, and it won't be fair. I will allow someone who genuinely deserves the work, regardless of the background. I do not think that it is fair. Outsiders Films was not made to tackle nepotism. Then you become the other extreme,” added Taapsee.
We somewhere echo her thoughts because it’s only sensible to give work to people who genuinely deserve it only based on their talent and passion for the art.
She also released a statement wherein she shared that she always wanted to set up her production house since management comes naturally to her.
She said, “The audience and the industry have given me a lot of support and love over the 11 years of my career. With Outsiders Films, I aim to give back to the industry and empower talent who are looking for a breakthrough and come with no background like me. Pranjal and I together look forward to opening doors for new and fresh talents, both in front and behind the camera.”
View this post on InstagramWe are happy that she is trying to make a mark in the production space too and hope to see some good work as a result of this stint.

The iPhone 13 has been long rumoured to get an always-on display and it seems like a fresh new leak all but confirms it. According to a new report by Bloomberg, the iPhone 13 will most definitely get an always-on display along with another new display tech.
    © neil-soni-unsplash
The iPhone 13 is rumoured to get a bigger battery, a 120Hz display, a smaller notch and better performance. But a new rumour indicates that the iPhone 13 is said to use an LTPO display similar to the Apple Watch.

Combining OLED display tech with LTPO would result in the iPhone 13’s screen to remain constantly on without consuming too much power. The display will essentially run in a reduced capacity where it would be enough to display time and notification icons. This will result in considerably less battery usage as compared to the current OLED displays being used in iPhones.
It’s worth pointing out that it’s still a rumour and has not been confirmed by Apple. The Cupertino giant tends to make changes last minute, however this move does make sense at this point and the repeated rumours of an always-on display may hint at authenticity.
    © frederik-lipfert-unsplash
Always-on displays have been in use by Android smartphones for almost a decade with companies like Samsung, OnePlus, Google and others offering it on their smartphones. Apple finally making the move may just be the next new exciting feature iPhone users have been wanting for a while. It’s not the first time Apple has taken its sweet time to adopt technology such as an always-on display years after Android smartphones.

Always-on displays are known to be a battery hog, however the new LTPO displays by Samsung may change that since the Apple Watch Series 5 already uses it. We could see Apple taking the leap for the iPhone as well since the company is already using the display technology for its wearable.
As long as Apple is able to optimise battery consumption by the LTPO display on the iPhone 13, we could see the new feature announced with the iPhone 13 later this year. As long as it doesn’t drain a lot of battery, Apple may finally bring the always-on feature iPhone users have been asking for years.

The first of three ODIs between India and Sri Lanka concluded a lot sooner than scheduled, not because of bad weather or light but because of how quickly Shikhar Dhawan and his boys chased down the total.
    View this post on Instagram
As soon as the match was over, the fans of the Indian squad were on social media, trying out every single method possible to call out the former Sri Lankan skipper Arjuna Ranatunga for his condescending words towards the “second string” of the Men in Blue before the series had begun.
"This is a second-string Indian team and their coming here is an insult on our cricket. I blame the current administration for agreeing to play with them due to television marketing needs," Ranatunga told reporters, according to PTI almost a couple of weeks before the first ODI took place.
If they feel it is a second team, that is their feeling, We are here to play Sri Lanka, it counts as an international match. 🇮🇳

Shikhar Dhawan (On Ranatunga referring them as 'B' team)#SLvIND #INDvSL pic.twitter.com/6Xy4vjx0Dn
    — The Cricket Alert (@TheCricketAlert) July 17, 2021
"India sent their best team to England and sent a weaker side to play here. I blame our board for that," said the former Sri Lanka skipper.
There were 80 balls left in the Indian innings when Dhawan took the single to end the night on a rather mellow note, especially after the beatdown organised by names like Prithvi Shaw and Ishan Kishan for the hosting side’s bowlers.
    View this post on Instagram
Soon after the Indian spinners were able to do significant damage to the Sri Lankan batting order and restricted them to a total of 262-run total, the beginning of India’s batting domination came from the blade of Shaw who opened his innings with back-to-back boundaries.
Isuru Udana, Dushmantha Chameera, Dhananjaya de Silva, you name the Sri Lankan bowlers and Indian batter was determined to send their deliveries across the boundary rope every single over. In a ‘Player of the Match’ winning performance, the 21-year old smashed a thunderous 43 off just 24 balls.
    View this post on Instagram
Then came the ODI debutant and birthday boy, Ishan Kishan who picked up where Shaw left and went on to add another 59 runs to the Indian total in 42 balls to get himself a special half-ton as a fantastic birthday gift.
To keep things flowing, Dhawan, who consciously played second-fiddle to Shaw and Kishan’s destruction, decided to go ballistic and remained on the pitch till the very end and scored an unbeaten 86 to win the game on a humble note.
    View this post on Instagram
It will be rather interesting to see if Ranatunga decides to make a comment about the one-sidedness of the match. It will also be worth watching how the Sri Lankan squad responds to the defeat during the second ODI on July 20, 2021.
