    Ram Gopal Varma truly is an enigma. It may be hard to believe now, but at one point in time, he was one of the most sought after directors, and not by your random actors, by people who really knew their stuff.

    There was a point in time when he was churning out movies that were both critically acclaimed, as well as commercially hits.

    Today though, he is known more for the flops he gave and the controversies he was embroiled in, more than his hits, which, for sure will go down as classics on Indian Cinema.

    Here are a few such movies that prove RGV was once a true cinematic genius.
    1. Shiva © Varma Creations
    This was one of Ram Gopal Varma’s initial films, back when no major producer was willing to bet on him. He signed up Nagarjuna Akkineni, as the lead in the film, and managed to get the film on the floors. The film was a raging success and established RGV as a bankable director. It also paved the way for Nagarjuna to try to make his mark in the Hindi film industry. 

    2. Satya
    Without a doubt, this is that one movie that RGV will always be remembered for. Had it not been for him, we probably wouldn’t have Manoj Bajpayee working in mainstream cinema. Satya is one of those movies that you just have to watch to really understand its impact on Indian cinema. It definitely is an all-time classic in Indian Cinema’s history.
    Bhoot
    Hear us out on this one. India doesn’t exactly know how to make a decent horror film. For 2004, it was way ahead of its time. The film was genuinely scary, thanks to how convincing and endearing Urmila Matondkar was in the film. Apart from being a critical hit, Bhoot was also a massive commercial success.
    Rakt Charitra
    Rakt Charitra is again one of those biographical movies that become larger than the subject or the inspiration of these films. It is gritty, gory, and has all the hallmarks of a gangster film that is made by Ram Gopal Varma.
    Rangeela
    Yup, one of Bollywood’s all-time greatest hits, Rangeela, was directed by him, in case you weren’t aware. The film remains to be one of Aamir Khan’s career-defining movies and that’s saying something, given his filmography. Rangeela was one of the most commercially successful films of not just 1995, but for that decade. Again, one of those films of RGV that will go down as an Indian Classic.
    Sarkar
    And of course, there is this gem of a piece. If you enjoy a proper dramatic, political crime thriller, this is a film that you simply can’t ignore. If you’re one of those who think that films should be just entertainment, and brainless, this one is certainly not for you. For everyone else though, Sarkar & Sarkar Raj are cinematic masterpieces.

    This year has been particularly tough for children and school kids, but their plight has gone unnoticed. From the crucial school years spent on the screen inside the four walls of their homes to speculating day in and day out if they would be asked to risk their lives and sit for the offline exams, the whole year was nothing but distressing for them.

    Moreover, it became even tougher for students who failed the 10th board exams amidst this. The SSLC results were declared a couple of days ago and while most passed, there was a section of students who unfortunately flunked on the basis of their past academic performance and scores. It is highly unfair and unfortunate.

    To help such students deal with the despair and stress, an entrepreneur from Tamil Nadu came up with an exciting proposal. Sudheesh K, fondly called Sudhi, is a homestay owner who has many lodging properties in Kodaikanal including Hammock. He decided to open the gates of his homestays for the students who failed the exam this year to unwind and relax, free of cost, to boost their morale.

    He put up a post on social media offering the students a free stay at his properties in Kodaikanal. “Did you fail the SSLC exam this year ??? You are cordially invited to Kodaikanal," he wrote in Malayalam on his Facebook post. The post has gone viral and he has been getting innumerable calls from students eager to avail this generous offer. Naturally!


    Speaking to a news publication, Sudheesh said, “Ever since the Class 10 results were announced, there has been a lot of victory sharing in social circles. What we often do not see is the other side of this. There is a segment that is being ostracised and ridiculed for having failed. So, I thought of offering something in my capacity to help them deal with the crisis.”

    The offer is valid only for students who didn’t pass the SSLC exam this year. They can bring their parents along with them and can spend two days in any of his properties free of charge. “The place is silent and away from all craziness. It is the ideal place to get away from all stress and get refreshed,” he said.

    Sudheesh wanted to help students and their parents deal better with this crisis because he felt it can be really tough for students these days. “It isn’t like old times, during my school days. Then, a failure would be taken in its stride. Now, students are under tremendous pressure. And passing the tenth standard is a matter of prestige for the family. A little bit of time away from this stress can work wonders for the kids and their parents,” he said.

    Bhushan Kumar, the Kingpin of the Indian music industry or in other words, the Bollywood music industry, has been accused of raping a 30-year-old woman on the premise of providing her a job.

    Kumar, who is the son of the legendary T-Series founder, Gulshan Kumar who was killed in 1999, is the serving Managing Director of the music label and also an Indian film and music producer.

    As per the police, an FIR was lodged against the music baron on Thursday (July 15) after the victim alleged that she had been sexually assaulted by Kumar from September 2017 until 2020.

    "Mumbai police have registered a case against T-Series company's Managing Director Bhushan Kumar, son of music baron late Gulshan Kumar, for allegedly raping a woman on the promise of providing a job to her. The offense was registered at DN Nagar police station in Andheri (West) on the basis of the complaint filed by the 30-year-old woman," an official said on Friday (July 16). 
    So far, the police have refused to provide the details as to when the alleged crime took place. "As per the complaint, Bhushan Kumar allegedly raped the woman on the pretext of providing a job to her in some projects of his own company," said an official speaking to PTI. 
    According to the police, the woman said that she had been cheated by him and that was the reason she had approached the police. The woman had also alleged that Kumar had threatened to harm if she dared open her mouth to anyone. The police have now charged Kumar under Indian Penal Code sections 376 (rape), 420 (cheating), 506 (criminal intimidation). 
    Following this, Kumar's team also went on to issue a statement. 
    "The complaint filed against Mr. Bhushan Kumar is completely false and malicious and the contents of the same are denied. It has been falsely alleged that the lady in question was sexually exploited between 2017 to 2020 on the pretext of giving her work. It is a matter of record that she has already worked for T-Series banner in Film and music videos. Around March 2021 she approached Mr. Bhushan Kumar seeking help to fund one of the web series which she wanted to produce, which was politely refused. Thereafter, In June 2021 after the lifting of lockdown in Maharashtra, she started approaching the T-Series banner in collusion with her accomplice demanding a huge sum of money as extortion amount. Consequently, a complaint was filed by T-Series banner against the attempted extortion at with police at Amboli police station on 1st July 2021. We also have evidence in the form of audio recording for the extortion attempt and the same shall be provided to investigating agency. The present complaint filed by her is nothing but a counterblast to the complaint filed against her and her accomplice for the offense of extortion. We are in the process of consulting our lawyers in this regard and will take appropriate legal action," said the statement.

    Farhan Akhtar recently said that he isn’t disturbed by the audience finding similarities between his latest film Toofaan, and Salman Khan’s 2016 film Sultan. Both the films are sports dramas and revolve around the lives of down and out athletes who make a comeback. 

    He was recently asked in an interview, that whether the comparisons disturb him or not. He said that the structure of the two films can be the same, but the journeys of the two characters are very different.
    He said that broadly speaking, any sportsperson who defies all odds to make a comeback can fall in this category. The film Toofaan is directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and released on July 16 on Amazon Prime Video.
    However, we watched the film and didn’t feel that the two movies in any way were similar apart from the outline of the film. So, here are 4 reasons why Farhan Akhtar’s Toofaan and Salman Khan’s Sultan shouldn’t be compared.

    The film is about a championship boxer who is an orphan and is a local gangster in the area where he lives. He then falls in love with a doctor and gets inspired to become a boxer and gets training under the best boxing coach. The story of the film is extremely intricate and is very different from Salman Khan’s film Sultan. The story also sheds light on the Hindu-Muslim conflict and majorly revolves around the same.

    However, it failed to make an impact through the storyline of the film or to even prove a point.

    Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra has already proved that he understands sports with his film Bhaag Milkha Bhaag in which Farhan Akhtar played the role of a Olympics runner. This is his second film in the sports arena with Farhan Akhtar where he plays the role of a boxer.

    The International Cricket Council(ICC) announced the groups for The T20 World Cup scheduled to be held later this year in the United Arab Emirates and Oman. The biggest talking point of the announcement was that arch-rivals India Pakistan were pooled in the same Group 2.
    This year’s tournament will be played in two stages. The first stage will be a qualifier from where four teams will reach the Super 12 stage. Besides six associate nations, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will also compete in the qualifiers after they failed to earn automatic qualification through their T20I rankings.

    England, Australia, South Africa, the West Indies, and the two qualifying nations form the Group A, while India and Pakistan, New Zealand, Afghanistan and two other qualifiers were placed in the Group B.

    On Thursday, it was revealed that Rishabh Pant contracted the COVID-19 virus in the middle of a 20-day break that the BCCI had allowed for the Indian cricketers ahead of the five-match Test series against England.
    Since then, one of the biggest topics of debate has revolved around where did the 23-year old come in touch with the virus. Initially, many speculated it was during a EURO 2020 match between England and Germany which Pant had gone to see at the Wembley stadium with his friends.

    However, information on a new potential source has come in the more recent reports suggesting that the cricketer may have gotten infected during his back-to-back visits to a dentist in the United Kingdom.
    “Pant had gone to a dentist on July 5 and 6, and could have picked the virus from the clinic. On July 7, he had been vaccinated," a source told The Times of India.
    Before the emergence of new information, trolls were making fun of Pant for not wearing a mask in a heavily crowded place like the Wembley stadium during the England-Germany match. However, now it has allowed them to joke around about the Indian cricketer for having dental issues.
    Just read that Rishabh Pant's dentist visit might be possible source of infection. Please brush your teeth atleast twice a day. And check whether your toothpaste has salt.

    BCCI President Sourav Ganguly also came to Pant’s rescue for not wearing a mask during the football game. “We have seen Euro Championship and Wimbledon in England. Rules have changed (with the crowd being allowed inside venues). They were on leave and it’s physically impossible to wear mask all the time,” Ganguly told News18.
    Asked about whether he is worried about the Indian squad who are gearing up for the Test series against England after Pant’s case came to light, Ganguly replied: “No worries. They will be fine.”
