If you’ve recently gotten into fitness as a lifestyle, then chances are that one of the goals you might be aiming for would be to successfully do a pullup.
While it may look easy for onlookers, a pullup requires a lot more than brute strength. Relying purely on strength can cause different muscles to overcompensate for the under developed muscles.
So, it is important to gradually, but surely build your way up to doing a pullup the proper way.
Increase Your Hang Time © iStock
For the first week your priority should be to hang from the pull up bar for as long as possible. You can use a chair to get to the height of the bar for the initial days. Being able to handle one's own body weight  is vital for a pullup. Your wrists and your grip will take some time to get used to your weight, but within a week to ten days you’ll find yourself being able to extend your hang time. 10 reps of 10 seconds each. Patience and incremental progress should be your focus.

Now that you’re comfortable hanging on to the bar, your next aim should be to get used to positioning yourself above the bar. Using a chair to step on, you can jump on top of the bar and hold yourself in the top position of the pull-up. You may use a pull-up band for assistance in case you’re unable to raise yourself to that position. The band will take some weight off your body and help you maintain balance and stability. You’ll have to hold this position for as long as you can. Ideally you should be able to do 4 sets of 3-5 seconds hold in a go. Do this for 2 weeks at least.

If by this point you are comfortable holding your bodyweight above the bar, then you can gradually introduce negative pull ups. From the top of the pull up position, gradually bring your body down till you’re hanging comfortably. Be careful not to drop the entire weight suddenly as it may cause injuries. The focus should be doing the movement as slowly as possible. Do 5-10 reps of these for 3 sets daily for 2 weeks.

Once you’ve performed negative pull ups for a couple of weeks, your body should be ready to squeeze out your initial few strict pull ups. From the starting position, slowly bring yourself up above the bar, and then back to the starting position. This will be harder than the entire regimen till now. But you should give yourself a pat on the back even if you’re only able to do 2-5 strict ones. From here on, you should look at increasing the stability and fluidity of your motion, without using any momentum for assistance.

Hurray! Now that you’ve successfully completed your first few pullups, you should give yourself credit for accomplishing something that was seemingly impossible for you. Patience and persistence will take you a long way.

The Supreme Court today issued a very powerful statement against the sedition law by calling it a colonial law and questioning the centre about its existence. “The sedition Law is a colonial law. Do we still need the law in our country after 75 years of Independence," Chief Justice NV Ramana questioned the centre.  However, attorney general K Venugopal has presented an argument that it needs to be retained with some amendments in place.

For the uninitiated, the sedition law  falls under section 124 A of the IPC and came into existence back in 1860 while India was still under the British Raj. Back then, this act was used to suppress the voice of national struggle which included Mahatma Gandhi and Lokmanya Tilak.
The Supreme Court’s powerful statement questioning why it still exists has drawn a parallel on social media and a lot of people are weighing in with their opinions.
If I may add to this your Lordship...
The question is also who misused the #sedition more; the British or our own elected Governments? https://t.co/nKOptO4lJn
    — The DeshBhakt (@TheDeshBhakt) July 15, 2021Why only #sedition law?

All british era laws should be scrapped

All laws that were made before 1947, should be scrapped

Our police, judiciary, entire criminal justice system is colonial

    Let's change it all https://t.co/QtJAWTDe1W
    — Kapil Mishra (@KapilMishra_IND) July 15, 2021Sedition law was meant to suppress freedom movement, used by Britishers to silence Mahatma Gandhi, others.
Is this law still needed after 75 yrs of Independence. SC
Hoping finally this Colonial law misused by GOI will b thrown out.
That will b a Eid or Diwali day!#Sedition
    — Rezina Sultana (@RezinaSultana9) July 15, 2021We don't need to follow any country. We have our own constitution and laws. Your thoughts are sentimental but we have to think about that Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression and sometimes the govt. misuses the #Sedition law.
    — Tushar Singh🇮🇳 (@tusharrr20) July 15, 2021While the law has existed for such a long time, it has come under criticism for curbing free speech, which is a fundamental right. In 1951, the Punjab High Court actually ruled it out as ‘unconstitutional’.  After the government of India appealed to the Supreme Court,  it was ruled out that speeches against the government of the country were in fact not illegal. A lot of 21st century authors have been charged under this law and the names include the likes of Arundhati Roy and Binayak Sen.

The Supreme Court ruled it out as ‘colonial’ and the statement around why we haven’t got rid of it as a country has garnered a lot of support on the internet. This comes in the light of a plea hearing that has been going on, which was filed by former army officer Major-General S G Vombatkere. He had challenged the Constitutional validity of section 124 A (sedition) of the IPC on the grounds that it causes a ‘chilling effect’ on speech of a human.

While the CJI maintained that the government was not blamed for its misuse, he exclaimed that “If we go see history of charging of this section, the enormous power of this section can be compared to a carpenter being a saw to make an item, who uses it to cut the entire forest instead of a tree. That's the effect of this provision.”
Simply put in layman’s terms, according to Section 124 A of the Indian Penal Code, whoever, by words, either spoken or written, or by signs, or by visible representation, or otherwise, brings or attempts to bring into hatred or contempt, or excites or attempts to excite disaffection towards, the Government established by law in [India] shall be punished with [imprisonment for life], to which fine may be added, or with imprisonment which may extend to three years, to which fine may be added, or with fine. This is also non-bailable.

The fact that food dominates every single area of our lives as Indians (or Asians, if you want me to be more apt here) irrespective of the region we live in or the language we speak, is a no-brainer. I recently lost two of my family members to COVID, and while saying goodbye to them, I had to eat whatever they loved to eat, for 10 days, as a part of the rituals. If that doesn't count as the biggest reminder to what food means to us, I don't know what does.

Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao shocked many when the two announced their divorce on July 3. The two have said that they are happy even after their separation and are trying to somewhat normalize the dialogue around divorce in Indian society. They are currently shooting in the beautiful landscapes of Ladakh for their upcoming movie, Laal Singh Chaddha.
The film Laal Singh Chaddha is a remake of Tom Hanks’ 1994 film Forrest Gump, directed by Advait. It also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and Mona Singh. Kiran Rao is one of the producers of the film.
The videos of the two dressed in traditional Ladakhi attire, performing a folk dance of Ladakh along with the locals have gone viral on the internet. They can be seen wearing traditional Ladakhi dresses called Koss and Sulma while performing the popular Ladakhi dance Gomba Sumshak.

When the two announced their separation and said that they are happy after divorce, people trolled them, accusing them of seeking publicity by selling their relationship this way.
In their statement, Aamir and Kiran said that they will remain devoted parents to their son Azad. They had also said that they would continue working on projects together.
The statement read, “In these 15 beautiful years together we have shared a lifetime of experiences, joy, and laughter, and our relationship has only grown in trust, respect, and love. Now we would like to begin a new chapter in our lives - no longer as husband and wife, but as co-parents and family for each other.”
It further read, “We began a planned separation some time ago, and now feel comfortable to formalize this arrangement, of living separately yet sharing our lives the way an extended family does. We remain devoted parents to our son Azad, who we will nurture and raise together. We will also continue to work as collaborators on films, Paani Foundation, and other projects that we feel passionate about. A big thank you to our families and friends for their constant support and understanding about this evolution in our relationship, and without whom we would not have been so secure in taking this leap. We request our well-wishers for good wishes and blessings, and hope that - like us - you will see this divorce not as an end, but as the start of a new journey.”

Every time Indian cinema and television make an appearance on the international award nominations list, it is a matter of immense pride and celebration for Indian fans. Obviously, we are extremely happy to see Indian films and shows earning the international recognition it deserves.
However, there have been a few times where the fans have been more disappointed than elated to see certain nominations, simply because they were completely undeserving.
    © Excel Entertainment
A lot of times it has happened that fans are baffled to see a mediocre, or worse, a cringe-worthy show or movie making it to the nominations list because we know that there are much better and more deserving films and series that could actually have a chance at winning and bring the award home.

    © Pritish Nandy Communications Ltd
Here are 4 such totally undeserving films and TV shows that bagged a prestigious award nomination and made people seriously mad about it:

    1. Indian Matchmaking For Emmy  © Netflix
The Netflix original reality show that unravels the desi wedding concept of matchmaking got the label of 'cringe-binge' because it was the kind of show that you neither watch, nor can stop watching.

Sima Aunty from Mumbai became the nightmare of Indian youth who were single and didn’t want to ‘adjust’.
However, what was so striking about the show that it got an Emmy nomination for 2021? Someone, please explain.
    2. Gully Boy for the Oscar  © Excel Entertainment
It created quite a debate when Gully Boy was sent as India’s official entry to the 92nd Academy Awards. The film had a fairly different plot and was watchable, but Oscar-worthy? We don’t think so.

Films like Article 15, Uri: The Surgical Strike, and Sonchiriya were also released that year and had a better chance of winning.
    3. Four More Shots Please! For Emmy  © Pritish Nandy Communications Ltd
The awful show about four millennial women and their struggles had absolutely nothing new to offer. However, it bagged an International Emmy Award nomination for best comedy series last year. Seriously?

The series was dull, pretentiously glamourous, and was a lot like Veere Di Wedding, *** And The City, and other shows about female bonding and friendship.
    4. Jeans For the Oscars  © Amritraj Solomon Communications
A romantic comedy set in Los Angeles, Jeans gained attention for being one of the most expensive films at the time. However, apart from this fact, there is nothing award-worthy in this film. The decision to submit it for Oscars 1998 was heavily mocked by critics and audiences. Did it win? It didn’t even make it to the final shortlist. And, we aren’t surprised.

Most Bollywood celebrities earn a whopping amount and they don't mind spending their hard-earned money on exquisite things.
Some have gone too far and bought private islands and jets as well. However, one more thing that these celebrities tend to spend a bomb on is their security. They usually hire bodyguards that surround them whenever they step out in public for personal reasons.

But, security and safety don't come cheap.

According to Zoom, Sonu earns a whopping amount, and you will be stunned to know that his salary is probably way more than you probably make.
He ears Rs 1.2 Crore annually, and if indeed this is true, he is one of the highest-paid bodyguards of Bollywood.

The rivalry between India and Pakistan cricket fans is nothing new.
Earlier, the scores were settled on the field but now that the two countries don’t engage in bi-lateral series anymore, social media platforms are the only battlefield remaining.
Every now and then, we see Indian and Pakistani fans facing off in order to prove the supremacy of their favourite cricketer. In the past, the debate revolved around Sachin Tendulkar and Inzamam-ul-Haq but now, the baton has been passed to the next generation of players -- Virat Kohli and Babar Azam.

Recently, a Pakistani fan tagged Kenya’s National Bank in his tweet and tried to take a dig at the African nation’s bowling using the example of former India skipper Sourav Ganguly, who had taken their bowlers to the cleaners on several occasions, especially during the 2003 World Cup.

The Pak fan, in his tweet, said that when he visited the National Bank the security guard asked him for his fingerprint and mobile number and after he asked about the reason behind this double-layered security, he was told that a man named Ganguly had “committed fraud for years against their fragile bowling”.

However, his move backfired as he was brutally trolled by the admin of the National Bank, who appreciated his humour but at the same time, also gave him a befitting reply.

The admin described Ganguly as a great player and riled the Pakistani fan by rating Indian skipper Kohli above Babar Azam.

Shaken up by the unexpected reply, the Pakistani fan began the damage control and described Kohli as 'Chokli' but found himself in another pothole as the admin of the Nairobi-based bank shut him down with a classic reply.

    Here’s the full conversation:
Hi, we appreciate your humour. Ganguly was a great player, Tikolo even better. Oh, and one more thing. Kohli > Babar ^CK
    — National Bank 🇰🇪 (@National_Bank) July 13, 2021Precisely why your book is unheard of. ^CK
    — National Bank 🇰🇪 (@National_Bank) July 13, 2021The conversation which began as a light banter, soon started trending on the micro-blogging site and became a great hit, especially among Indian fans who complimented the sense of humour of the admin.
Despite getting humiliated, the Pakistani fan was happy with how popular the thread became and said he was loving the attention he was getting, proving that there is no such thing as bad publicity.

There have been numerous instances of Indian and Pakistani fans clashing virtually and going all out in support of their respective skippers.
Babar Azam scored 158 runs in the third ODI against England and became the fastest to reach 14 ODI hundreds but Indian fans didn’t let them enjoy their skipper’s achievement and pointed out that nine of those hundreds came against lower-ranked teams like Zimbabwe, the West Indies and Sri Lanka.
Fastest to 14 ODI centuries, by number of innings:

    81 - Babar Azam
    82 - Meg Lanning
    84 - Hashim Amla
    98 - David Warner
    103 - Virat Kohli pic.twitter.com/4cRlzbOoxZ
    — ESPNcricinfo (@ESPNcricinfo) July 13, 2021
Kohli, on the other hand, had scored his centuries against the strong-bowling attacks of Australia, New Zealand, England and South Africa.
This and many other incidents prove that there is no end to this ongoing debate and fans, instead of engaging in unnecessary online battles, must learn to enjoy the masterful batting on display.

Who doesn't love the idea of grand proposals? We all have been inspired at some point to ask the love of our lives the big question in the most memorable way possible.
Bollywood, though, has been the biggest influence when it comes to romance. In movies and even in real life, some celebrities took one step ahead and proposed to their partners in a lavish manner.
Take a look at the list of these celebrities and their heart-warming marriage proposals:
    1. Ali Fazal © Instagram/Ali Fazal
Ali Fazal and Richa Chadda announced their engagement amid the pandemic. And if you see Ali's proposal plan, you are bound to love it.

Ali had plans to propose from a helicopter with many people looking. But, instead, he devised a surprise dinner for her on an island in the middle of the ocean in the Maldives. He kept it simple yet romantic.
    2. Shah Rukh Khan © Instagram/SRK
Even SRK and Gauri's story is one for the books. The couple, despite their ups and downs, has been together for more than thirty years now.

When they were young, SRK would try hard to woo Gauri. Once, they fought in their teenage days, and she decided to come to Mumbai.
After that, SRK followed her, and one fine day, he decided to propose to her on the beach. Yes, it was super romantic, and they finally got married on 25th October 1991.
    3. Abhishek Bachchan © Instagram/Abhishek Bachchan
Abhishek and Aishwarya worked together for Guru, and that's when the rumours of their love story started doing rounds.

Jr. Bachchan popped the big question during the premiere of the movie and asked Aishwarya to marry him on the same balcony he once imagined they would be together in.
The couple has been married for over 14 years now.
    4. Nick Jonas © Instagram/Priyanka Chopra
Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas had only been on three dates before the couple decided to get married.

The popstar even shut the Tiffany & Co outlet in London to choose the ring for the love of his life.
He proposed to her at midnight on their trip to Crete and ensured the engagement date doesn't clash with her birthday.
    5.  Saif Ali Khan © Instagram/Kareena Kapoor Khan
The couple fell in love on the sets of Tashan. Saif had made up his mind that he wanted to marry Kareena so much that he proposed twice, but unfortunately, Kareena rejected it both times.

However, their destiny changed when Saif decided not to give up. He proposed her once again in Paris, which was also the same place where Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi proposed Sharmila Tagore. Kareena then said yes, and they now have been together for 9 years and have two beautiful boys.
    6. Akshay Kumar © Instagram/Akshay Kumar
Theirs was an unannounced proposal story. Former actress and now known as Mrs Funnybones, Twinkle rejected Akshay's proposal as she wanted to focus on her career.

In Koffee with Karan, Akshay mentioned that Twinkle was sure about Mela's success. She claimed that the movie would be a hit at the box office, but she would marry him if it fails. The film flopped, and the rest is history!
    7. Kunal Kemmu © Instagram/Kunal Kemmu
The Pataudi clan has a connection with Paris. Even Soha and Kunal's proposal story is from the city of love.

After Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and Saif Ali Khan asked their partners to marry them in Paris, Kunal Kemmu too decided to pull off a perfect proposal for Soha.
Even though Paris was not on their itinerary, he still planned it all out. Soha said yes, and the couple got married soon after.
    8. Karan Singh Grover © Instagram/Bipasha
Karan and Bipasha fell in love on the sets of Alone, and their chemistry soon turned into a relationship.

Despite their age gap and Karan's past marriages, nothing came in between their love.
Finally, Karan popped the question in Koh Samui, Thailand during fireworks on 31st December and gave her a ring. They have been married for 5 years now.
