Unlike Indian award functions, certain international awards actually do have some credence. Or so we thought.
Now though, it is really hard to believe that award ceremonies like the Academy Awards or the Emmys are sacrosanct.
    © Netflix
The reason we say this, is of course, because of Indian Matchmaking’s Emmy nomination.

    © Netflix
When the show was released, we all had fun at its expense, and just how ridiculous it made most of the participants look. Yes, there were a few strong characters, but even they were made to look ridiculous.

As the fervour of the show settled down, and the memes around “Sima Taparia from Mumbai” subsided, we took a good hard look at it, and saw, just how problematic the show was.
    © Netflix
First of all, there is the entire concept of matchmaking and the business of it, of how things go about. Keeping the obvious issues with agency and personhood aside for a moment, there were several other issues, that the show seemed to be promoting, no matter what the makers of the show, or Sima herself say.

    © Netflix
The obsession with fair skin, the lack of diversity in terms of religion and sexual orientation - the show was presented in a way that seemed to normalise all that.

And then, there is the problem of the west gaze, or particularly, the “white gaze.” This was a show that was made by the diaspora of India, for an American and a diasporic audience, that peddled Indians.
Netflix India wasn’t involved in the making of the show. Had they been involved, there would have been some chance of the show not showing the stereotypical idea of South Asian marriages - that they are always arranged in nature.
You have to ask yourself, who is the show meant for, and who is it targeting?
    © Netflix
Make no mistake about this - the show and the Western people watching it, is like a group of American tourists, coming to India and visiting the Taj Mahal, the Ashrams at Rishikesh, and the crowded markets of Old Delhi, and then claiming, “This is India in a nutshell,” all the while saying just how “spiritually enriching” the experience has been for them. The larger picture is nonexistent for them.

    © Netflix
The nomination comes as a surprise, even more, when we consider the fact that shows like Made In Heaven & Delhi Crime, were nominated last year.

Even a show like Four More Shots getting a nomination in the comedy category made some sense.
    © Prime Video
And let’s not forget, that Indian Matchmaking, at the end of everything, was a cringe-fest, that certainly did not deserve your time.

If someone says it did, they surely were categorising it under “shows that are so bad, that you have to watch them to believe they exist.”

The Pandemic situation in India was witnessed by the entire world. Many international media outlets raised their voices and many countries extended their support while raising concern on the alarming situation here. While the second wave seems to have settled down a little bit in some parts of India, medical experts have already raised a flag for the incoming third wave.

During the second wave, the government was questioned for its efforts and the help extended towards the citizens of the country. However, Australian MP Craig Kelly has an opinion of his own. He recently hailed the efforts of UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during the pandemic. “The Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Any chance they could loan us their Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to release the Ivermectin sort out the mess our hopelessly incompetent  State Premiers have created," he tweeted.
WELL DONE to Indian State of UP & its Chief Minister @myogiadityanath for their effective management in crushing the wave

Brilliant that UP introduced ‘Ivermectin’ as preventive measure for health workers, patients & people exposed to infected people !! https://t.co/eYmCFBdgQx
    — Craig Kelly MP (@CraigKellyMP) July 12, 2021
Interestingly, this is not the first time that UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s efforts have been recognised by an international premier. Earlier, the WHO praised him and his state government’s effort in containing the spread of the Covid-19 virus and their prompt response to testing, and tracing it in the state. According to reports, the UP government had distributed Ivermectin to health workers and people affected with Covid. A ration scheme and cash support scheme was also put in place for affected families.
    © Twitter
A lot of people supported Kelly’s tweet and thanked him for the praises, but there were some who strongly disagreed and didn’t hold back from sharing their opinion.

Invite him and few more like him, in fact entire party, and don't let them leave Australia..! Please do it asap..! We are done with them..
    — aalok dekhane (@daalok) July 12, 2021He has definitely controlled UP as a state well. UP is different now then what it used to be. I don’t know about corona. But a person working under the leadership of @narendramodi can go wrong, he is a human after all but will correct his course. Haters will hate. All the best.
    — Devanderpump (@DSurte) July 15, 2021Respected Sir, Thanks for words of appreciation for our CM.

We know in spite of all support from friends, we know that we need to fight battle (against Corona) in ground and our respected CM is doing the same. Warm regards..
    — Arun Mishra🇮🇳 (@arun2twitt) July 12, 2021Hahaha, Please invite him, and all like him then you will know the fact.
And one thing please collect the data how many people died in up due to covid please.
Hop you will tweet sure on died data.
    Thank you
    — Md Yusuf (@jahangir_yusuf) July 13, 2021With a third wave warning being issued around the globe, it only makes sense that we become more responsible and stay alert. Please continue avoiding stepping out for leisure, maintain social distancing and above all, take extremely good care of your health.

Vikrant Massey has been in the industry for over a year now and his journey in Bollywood speaks for itself.
From being a TV star to experimenting with various roles in the industry, he has earned tremendous love, respect and trust from the audience.

Recently, Vikrant revealed that he was rather ‘underutilized’ even after spending a decade in the TV industry. He admitted that he experienced 'subtle jabs' as he was part of the TV industry before entering Bollywood.

Vikrant Massey started his career in Bollywood with the film Lootera in 2013. He was recently seen in the film Haseen Dillruba alongside Taapsee Pannu and Harshvardhan Rane.

In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, he said, "The moment you tell me 'you can't do this, I'll make sure I do that. When I wanted to make the switch to films, my parents were like, 'beta, complete your graduation, get a roof over your head'. When I did that at 24, it was a very tough decision for me to make the switch... A lot of wry comments, a lot of subtle jabs at television actors..."

He further added, "That pushed me against the wall, and that's when I decided that I will make sure I will prove them wrong. It doesn't have a negative connotation... I just wanted to go out there and express myself, I always knew I had that possibility within me... Even after 10 years of working in television, I felt underutilized."

He also expressed in a recent interview, that he was several times replaced just a few days before the shoot. He revealed that sometimes, he was replaced after he starting prepping for the role.
“Workshop chal rahi hai, aap reading kar rahe ho, producer aapko bula ke khila raha hai, pila raha hai, poora dhyan rakh raha hai, aap do hafte mein shoot pe jaa rahe ho (I was doing a workshop, readings, the producer was pampering me and I was supposed to begin shooting in two weeks),” he said.

Vikrant Massey has made a mark for himself in Bollywood in movies like Dil Dhadakne Do, Lipstick Under My Burkha, A Death in the Gunj, and Chhapaak.

Truly, the best way to shut down your haters and prove them wrong, is your success.

Virat Kohli, the batsman, has already achieved what most players only dream of accomplishing at the international stage but he still has a solid few years ahead of him to go even farther.
Going by his batting stats, there’s no doubt he is already a modern-day great and if he keeps going on like this, he might make his case for being called the greatest of all time by the time he retires.
But as they say, no one is perfect and Kohli’s case is no different, as he is yet to deliver silverware as a skipper and his leadership skills have come under huge scrutiny, especially since India lost the World Test Championship final to New Zealand last month.
    © Reuters
Kohli has been an indispensable part of India’s batting line-up for several years now but his captaincy has been a hit-and-miss thus far and slowly, fans are starting to lose their patience.

He has often been blamed for 'creating insecurity' in the team and former India player Mohammad Kaif also feels that this Indian team has 'no clarity' and players are insecure because they are not sure of their place in the side.

He feels that Kohli believes in the current form more than anything and that’s why we have seen players like Suryakumar Yadav, Ishant Kishan and others making their international debut in recent times.
“There is no clarity in this Indian team. As commentators, we also talk about that there should be clarity but this Indian team doesn’t want to go that road. You have to accept that’s not how (Virat) Kohli operates,” Kaif said on Sports Tak YouTube channel.
    © Instagram Mohammad Kaif
“Kohli believes that whoever is in form, you include him in the playing XI. That’s the reason why Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan played for India while Shikhar was dropped and Rohit Sharma was also given a break,” he added.

After losing the WTC final, Kohli hinted at a huge overhaul in the Test squad just like the limited-overs side and argued they would bring in players with the right mindset, who aren’t afraid of expressing themselves in the middle.
    © Reuters
Kohli’s comments became a huge talking point and people started speculating who might lose his place in the side.

Kaif believes that this has been the norm on the side for quite some time now and not even senior players like Rohit Sharma is certain of his place in the side.
“No one can be certain of his place in this team and even Rohit is aware of that. It’s not a new thing, it has been going on for a long time and even the players have moved on knowing that they’ll have to cash in on whatever opportunities they get.
    © Twitter BCCI
“At the end of the day, one should judge Kohli on the basis of whether or not he can win India trophies but so far he hasn’t been successful in the ICC events,” Kaif stated.

Frankly speaking, in Kaif’s era there was no platform like IPL and Sourav Ganguly had a limited pool of players to choose from whereas Kohli has no dearth of options and there is no harm in picking players who have proved their calibre by scoring tons of runs in the domestic T20 league.

SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk congratulated the Indian Space Research Organisation for successfully conducting its 3rd test of the Vikas Engine that will be used for the Gaganyaan Programme. Musk’s one-word Tweet also has an Indian flag emoji.
    © Reuters
The engine was tested for a duration of 240 seconds at the ISRO facility in Mahendragiri, Tamil Nadu. “The performance of the engine met the test objectives and the engine parameters were closely matching with the predictions during the entire duration of the test," ISRO said.

    Congratulations! 🇮🇳
    — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 14, 2021
Mr Musk has often praised ISRO’s work despite being a competitor. The billionaire has praised ISRO’s achievements especially due to the minimal cost. Musk was also impressed when ISRO launched 104 satellites on a single rocket in February 2017. SpaceX is also planning to partner with local companies to manufacture satellite communications equipment in India according to reports. The company is also planning to launch its high-speed Starlink satellite broadband services in the country.

    © Wikipedia Commons
The 3rd test of the Vikas Engine was the final testing of one of the three stages of the launch vehicle and will be used in missions to carry humans to space. The engine will be used to send a manned flight to the low earth orbit. The first manned mission is scheduled for December 2021 while the second is slated for 2022-23. However, it is unsure whether the ISRO is on track due to the COVID-19 pandemic and could suffer a delay.

    © Wikipedia Commons
For this mission, four people from the Indian Air Force have been selected including a Group Captain and three Wing Commanders. The four have already completed their one-year training in Russia's Zvyozdny Gorodok city earlier this year in March. Two flight surgeons are also preparing and undergoing training for the mission in Russia and France respectively.

The much-awaited space programme of ISRO was formally announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 15th, 2018. The Prime Minister announced that it was India’s target to launch a manned mission before the 75th anniversary of India’s independence in 2022.
Space travel has been garnering a lot of interest in the recent past, especially since Richard Branson became the first billionaire to go into space last Sunday. He travelled onboard Virgin Galactic's first fully crewed test flight. Jeff Bezos is also expected to go into space later this month in Blue Origin’s New Shepard vehicle.

Bollywood actor Sonu Sood is not just any actor in the industry.
    © Reuters
He stands as a symbol of hope for a large number of people across the country with the actor really leading by example at a time when the country went through a major crisis during the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.

At a time when helpless people like migrant workers and other sections were forced to walk barefoot back to their hometowns after seeing people closing their doors on them, Sonu Sood became their messiah.
    © BCCL
The actor not only extended financial help to them so that they could reach back home safely but also made sure that anyone in need later could be helped in some manner or the other. We know one thing for sure - people won't forget his heroic deeds anytime soon.

And well, we obviously won't stand there doing nothing if our heroes are being beaten up by someone else. Even if it's on the TV!
That's right. A 7-year-old fan of the actor from Sangareddy town in Telangana got so angry after seeing hero Sonu being beaten up by goons in a film, that he broke the TV into pieces.
The hilarious incident was indeed shared by the 47-year-old actor on his official Twitter account, with the national hero putting up a hilarious post. Sonu tweeted,“Don't break your TVs. His dad is going to ask me to buy a new one now.”
    Arrreee, Don't break your TVs,
His dad is going to ask me to buy a new one now https://t.co/HB8yM8h1KZ
    — sonu sood (@SonuSood) July 14, 2021
Well, we really don't blame the young fan, as, like him, all Indians immerse themselves in the reality of movies far too often. It only goes to show that Sonu must have tremendous acting skills, even when he was being thrashed by goons.
Almost everything about Sonu Sood reflects something good and fans will be lining up to see the actor in his new movie Kisaan, which hasn't got a release date yet. Well, one thing's for sure. Sonu better not get beaten in it or there will be consequences! (Kids with baseball bats)

As kids, food is probably last on the list of our interests. I still cannot believe that I was forced to stuff food in my mouth by my parents.
Now, as an adult, it’s one of the only good things in my life. Is there any problem that a plate of hot steaming momos or biryani can’t fix? I highly doubt it.
    © Instagram/Vidyut Jammwal
However, with the pleasure comes the struggle too. While we got everything served on a platter (quite literally) when we were kids, it’s not the case in adult life.

Along with taxes and loans, comes food struggles like grocery expenses, cash crunch due to ordering food online almost every day and truckload of unwashed dishes.
    © Instagram/Varun Dhawan
I’d say food struggles are the worst part of adulting, but since it’s worth it, we don’t mind going that extra mile or spending that extra penny on the love of our life--food.

Whether you cook yourself or order online, you will relate to this discussion that an online food ordering platform, Swiggy started on Twitter.

They tweeted “Growing up and realising that…” and left it for the food lovers to fill the rest.

To be honest, there's no shortage of bizarre incidents happening in India, especially in Bihar. Take the time when one woman took two shots of Covishield and Covaxin in five minutes or the time when a girl refused to marry the groom because he couldn't solve a fundamental math question.

The number of examples is countless.
    © iStock
In yet another bizarre incident, a man in Bihar from Samastipur put vermillion on a female doctor's forehead and legitimately forced it on her.

Sumit, who works as a compounder, entered the hospital with some of his friends. He then stormed into the doctor's office and put sindoor on her forehead while his friends took videos and pictures.
These were then shared on social media platforms which went viral.
    © Twitter/MSN
Post this incident, a case was registered against him, and the videos were used as evidence.

As per reports, it was an act of 'revenge' as Sumit was fired by Dr Anima Ranjan on whom he put sindoor. Dr Ranjan is the officer in charge of Dalsinghsarai at the Primary Health Center.
    © iStock
A case has been registered on Sumit after Dr Rajan submitted a written complaint at the Police station, Dalsinghsarai. However, the accused has escaped, and a search operation is going on to find him by the police.

    © iStock
A similar case took place in West Bengal where a mob forced sindoor on a minor girl, that too by a deceased boy. Both of them were in a relationship and wanted to be together. However, the girl's mother was against their bond. The boy then ended his life, and everyone blamed the girl and the family for the same.

It's sometimes hard to fathom that we still live in a society where such bizarre things occur. Forcing vermillion to seek vengeance? It's a little too much. We hope the man gets caught soon enough.
