‘Growing Up & Realising That..’: Indians Discuss Food-Related Struggles Of Adult Life

As kids, food is probably last on the list of our interests. I still cannot believe that I was forced to stuff food in my mouth by my parents.

Now, as an adult, it’s one of the only good things in my life. Is there any problem that a plate of hot steaming momos or biryani can’t fix? I highly doubt it.

However, with the pleasure comes the struggle too. While we got everything served on a platter (quite literally) when we were kids, it’s not the case in adult life.

Along with taxes and loans, comes food struggles like grocery expenses, cash crunch due to ordering food online almost every day and truckload of unwashed dishes.

Whether you cook yourself or order online, you will relate to this discussion that an online food ordering platform, Swiggy started on Twitter.

A lot of desis responded with their own food struggles they realised as adults, how their relationship with food has changed and what they have learnt about food they didn’t know when they were young.

Growing up is realising that elaichi is actually essential in lending biryani its signature taste and the hate for it is quite frankly, utterly childish and baseless.
