Bollywood and β€˜baarish’ is a continous tale of romance which will never end. Just like secondary characters, costumes, background music are important elements of a story, there is something about rains being an integral part of a narrative. Here are 5 movies where rains played an important part in moving the story forward:
1.Β Life In A MetroMumbai rains are a character in real life, not just reel life. While it wreaks havoc in so many lives every year, monsoon in Mumbai is an experience which everyone awaits. This movie portrays the parallel world of multiple realities in a very realistic way and the rains in the background push the stories together. A confused Shilpa trying to find a seat in the local bus, married couples cheating on each other, old lovers rekindling their not-so exhausted flames, singles arriving for arranged marriage meetings, the rains add realism to this wonderfully made movie.

2.Β TumbaddA heaven for horror movie buffs, this fantastically made movie took monsoon so seriously that it was shot in monsoon for 4 years to keep the vibe and scenes authentic. The rains symbolise a curse in the movie, which literally waters down on the lives of people residing in Tumbadd, who, according to folklore, have to pay the price of worshipping a demon. It signifies doom and abundance in a different way. The rain flows down on the soil, and under the soil, it is the gold which flows inside the womb of the Goddess. What a visually endearing comparison!

3.Β Wake Up SidAnother movie which tells the tale of a young girl named Ayesha, who comes to the city of dreams to fulfil her own dreams and taste the freedom of life and the Mumbai rains. While Sid assures her that the rains are worth waiting for, it is almost an anti-climax moment that when she finally gets to experience the β€˜baarish’, Sid and her have drifted apart. Though the reunion in the rain not only shows them drown their insecurities and sorrows, it also drowns away the sadness and marks a new beginning for them. It is clearly one of the most beautiful climax scenes in a Bollywood movie.

4.Β Kuch Kuch Hota HaiThere is no perennial monsoon that is shown in this KJO classic but the rains play an important part in two major turns in the story. Firstly, when Anjali realizes an decides to confess her love to her BFF Rahul, an over excited Rahul runs towards her with the same intent, but for a different girl in his mind. As she crushes her love and lets friendship win in that moment, the entire Universe seems to cry for her (we all have cried to Tujhe Yaad Na Meri Aayi, don’t lie). The second time around, when the two old friends meet at a Summer camp, there comes a moment of romance where the two are shown to be close and dance in the rain. Once again, Anjali musters up the courage to confess her love and she does that, only to hear β€˜I love you too’ from Aman, not Rahul. The thunder in the background probably represents the eminent pain of her heart.

5.Β Aashiqui 2Who can forget the iconic scene from the poster because since then, an umbrella has been replaced by a jacket for every β€˜filmy’ couple in the world. The union of Rahul and Aarohi eventually is sealed when the rain falls down on their head and probably it starts raining in their hearts as well. The title song starts playing and the end of the rains mark the beginning of their romance.

There are probably so many more movies where rains are instrumental in the script and we’d love to do a part two of this series. So let us know your favourite β€˜baarish’ moment fromΒ  movie.Β

Even if you’re not a big fan of romantic fiction, this series is based on Robyn Carr’s multi-book Virgin River Series. The story revolves around the life of a widowed nurse-practitioner and midwife Mel Monroe who heads north to escape heartache and lands up in the mountain town of Virgin River.
Mel falls in love with a guy who owns the bar in Virgin River and both end up dating each other even after the odds are against them.
Mel and Jack have incredible on-screen chemistry and even if you don’t like the initial few episodes, you’ll end up watching the whole season for their incredible chemistry. The chemistry is engaging enough that you start rooting for the couple from the very start.
Whereas Jack is an equally good boyfriend, Mel is the kind of girlfriend one needs when they are looking for a long-lasting relationship.
So, here are 5 reasons why all men need a girlfriend like β€˜Mel’.
She Has Always Got Jack’s Back Β© Netflix
No matter what, she always has Jack’s back. In the new season, you’ll see how they make every day easier for each other.

She Is Extremely Loyal Β© Netflix
This is a fundamental requirement for anyone who wants to be in a monogamous relationship. Unless people have decided upon being in an open relationship. However, Mel is the kind of girlfriend who you can rely upon.

Gives Jack The Time To Process ThingsΒ  Β© Netflix
In season 3, Jack has undergone a lot of changes including getting shot and losing his house. She is the perfect girlfriend who gives Jack the time to process things and doesn’t force him to express his feelings if he doesn’t want to.

She Lets Jack Be VulnerableΒ  Β© Netflix
Mel always lets Jack be himself, she never forces him to become something that he isn’t. Also, their way of resolving conflicts is something that we need to learn from.

She Is Kind To PeopleΒ  Β© Netflix
Everyone obviously wants a girlfriend who is kind to you but you also need a GF who isn’t aloof and rude to your family and friends. Mel is kind and empathetic towards everyone and she even gets along with Jack's sister β€˜Brie’ and helps her overcome her issues.

Forget your movies and your lengthy TV shows that go on for ages. Some of the best stories that you will ever see comes in the form of miniseries.Β

    Β© Warner Bros. Television Distribution
Want to binge-watch an exciting show, but cannot sit through eight or nine seasons of mindless droning?Β

    Β© Marvel Studios
A good miniseries is a perfect choice to go for, as they don’t require any sort of commitment. Heck, there are some really entertaining shows that you can binge-watch on a lazy Sunday, and trust us, that is a day well spent.

    Β© Netflix
Here are 7 epic miniseries that if you find committing to a long and lengthy series too tiring and stifling.
    1. WandaVision
Of course, this is on the list. Marvel fans had been demanding a separate movie for Wanda Maximoff and Vision, and they got something even better. If you’ve been living under a rock and still haven’t seen WandaVision, you don’t know what you’re missing out on.
    2. Loki
Another gem of a miniseries from Marvel, Loki kicked off Phase 4 with a bang. The Marvel Universe was anyway a rich a one, made with nuance that consisted of layers after layers. Loki enriched the MCU in an unbelievable manner. If you’ve ever enjoyed anything by Marvel, this is a series that you have to watch.
    3. Chernobyl
If you enjoy shows and series that are made on a historical subject and is made very accurately, you’ve got to watch Chernobyl. What’s beautiful about the show is how the story unfolds. The show begins with the explosion and goes on to show why the explosion took place and the actions of the men who tried to control the damage. It genuinely ties you to the edge of your seat.
    4. The Queen’s Gambit
Whether you like chess or not, you cannot deny that The Queen’s Gambit is a brilliantly made show. The show is aesthetically well made, but more importantly, it has a great story. If you really enjoy a good coming of age story, very few other stories come close.
    5. When They See Us
When They See Us is basically a story about 5 young boys of colour, who get wrongfully convicted for a rape they did not commit. Again, just like Chernobyl, this is a cinematic retelling of a real-life incident. The journey of the boys, and how their convictions were overturned 12 years after they were sentenced, is what makes the show really compelling to watch. You really connect with the convicted characters, even though, there are shades of grey in everyone.
    6. The Haunting Of Hill House
Yes, The Haunting Of Hill House does qualify as a miniseries, even though, there was a subsequent series called The Haunting Of Bly Manor. Barring some of the actors and the creators, both the shows were as different as chalk and cheese. The Haunting Of Hill House is a beautifully made horror miniseries, that really takes into account the human psyche. Yes, there are a few jump scares here and there. However, the intent of the show is not to scare you witless, but rather to make you think, what exactly haunts you.Β
    7. Special Mention - Delhi Crime
Now, a special mention has to go to Delhi Crime. That you should watch it for the stellar performances, goes without saying. However, the main reason why anyone should watch this miniseries, is how this series was made. Certain details that the public never got to know from the news or the police, were shown in the series, and in a very sensitive manner. The filmmakers did not go over the top with anything. Still, do keep in mind that this one is not for the faint of heart.
What other miniseries or limited series do you think is a must-watch for everyone? Do let us know in the comments below.

For a long time Bollywood had been suffering from a particular kind of colour blindness. Somehow, everywhere you’d look you’d only see fair, white skinned faces playing leading roles. Almost as if it was a prerequisite to becoming a star in this cutthroat industry.Β
In recent years though, Bollywood seems to have slowly woken up to the diversity available in our vast country. The same diversity that had long been appreciated in Hollywood and other international film industries.Β
Here are seven actors who’ve made their mark on an industry that’s still hesitant about dark skin representation:
Vicky KaushalΒ He’s come a long way fromΒ  playing the deeply grounded Deepak in Masaan. VickyΒ has experienced a stratospheric rise in the industry in recent years and has become a reliable name in the industry. His brooding good looks have also won him admiration from his fans and finds his name held at the same standard as the top brass of Bollywood.Β

DhanushΒ Tamil superstar Dhanush needs no introduction. He’s a force to be reckoned with and stands shoulder to shoulder with the giants of cinema. Dhanush is able to completely mould himself into the character he essays. His versatility has given us hits like Asuran and Vada Chennai.Β

Nawazuddin SiddiquiΒ Few actors have experienced struggle and discrimination the way Nawazuddin has. However, his talent has shone through brightly. Whether it be as the maniacal Gaitonde in Sacred Games or as the famed author Manto, Nawazuddin SiddiquiΒ is a bonafide tour de force in Bollywood now.Β

Ajay DevgnΒ At a time when the fairer Khans were omnipresent in Bollywood films, Ajay Devgn was making a name for himself as the gritty action star with a sensitive side. Safe to say, today, he's put on the same pedestal by his fans as the Khans. You can spot him in action in his upcoming film, Bhuj.Β

Suniel ShettyΒ Ageing like fine wine, Suniel Shetty looks better today than he ever did. Even though he might not be as visible on screen as he once was, he's still got fans swooning and crooning on social media over his age-defying good looks.Β Β

Kunal NayyarΒ The lad from The Big Bang Theory may have played the socially awkward Raj, but he’s a real lady killer in real life. He’s married to former Miss India Neha Kapur.

Sendhil RamamurthyΒ He’s gorgeously played pivotal characters in several popular American TV series like Heroes, Grey’s Anatomy and the recent Netflix series Never Have I Ever. His devilishly handsome looks have earned him a devoted fan base across the globe.Β

Their journeys might not have been easy but we’re glad these handsome Indian actors have come out on top of their craft and are finally getting the admiration they deserve.
