    ISLAMABAD: Offices of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf?s (PTI) social media head for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were raided by unidentified officials, it was revealed on Monday.

    Talking to the media outside the Supreme Court on Monday, PTI spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry condemned the continuous action against the party?s social media activists.
    He explained that the party does not know for sure which organisation ransacked its social media office in Peshawar, saying it could be the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
    ?[Prime Minister] Nawaz?s actions [against free speech] mirror Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina?s crackdown on opposition parties,? claimed Chaudhry, a lawyer by profession.
    He cautioned the federal government from using state machinery to clamp down on dissent, saying ?there is a difference between hate speech and [political] insults.?
    We stand with our social media activists, and even with those from across the aisle, he said further.
    Praising the Pakistan Army as ?our own?, PTI MNA Mohammad Ali Khan said [Interior Minister] Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan is behind the FIA action.
    The PTI will hold a protest outside the Islamabad Press Club against the arrests of its social media activists Monday evening. Party leaders say if the situation does not improve they will increase the size and frequency of their protests.

    The FIA is investigating some 41 people for posting anti-state content on various social media websites. ?Some two dozen people suspected of publishing hate materials are in our custody ? and it also includes some eight activists of the PTI and PML-N,? a senior official of the FIA disclosed to Geo News on Sunday.

    MEXICO CITY: A bus carrying a church group plunged into a deep gorge in the southern Mexican state of Chiapas Sunday, killing at least 17 people and injuring 31, authorities said.
    The bus fell into a 90-meter (300-foot) gorge in the Motozintla region near the border with Guatemala, according to the local office of the Interior Ministry´s civil protection department.
    "At this time, we have registered 17 people who unfortunately lost their lives," the agency said in a statement.
    The bus was carrying members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church returning from a retreat in the Pacific coast town of Pijijiapan, local police said.
    An apparent mechanical failure caused the accident, according to federal highway police involved in the rescue effort.

    A Gareth Bale header sparked a remarkable 19-minute turnaround, however, helped by a hugely contested penalty which was converted by Cristiano Ronaldo.
    Substitute Alvaro Morata's header then grabbed all three points to restore Real's lead in the standings.

    A late equaliser by Antoine Griezmann in the Madrid derby should have galvanised Barcelona when they then played struggling Malaga with the chance to go level on points at the top. But the Andalusians, coached by Real hero Michel, had other ideas.
    Barca reject Sandro Ramirez fired Malaga ahead in the first half and the visitors' frustrations grew when Neymar was sent off for a second booking. With hope of an equaliser fading fast, Jony Rodriguez hit a second for Malaga, sealing a fourth league defeat for Barca and effectively killing their title hopes.

REUTERS/Abir Sultan/Pool JERUSALEM: Israel on Sunday authorised a few economic concessions to the Palestinians requested by President Donald Trump, hours before the US leader begins a visit in which he hopes to revive peace talks frozen since 2014.

    As well as the concessions, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Security Cabinet - a forum of senior ministers - voted to establish a committee to examine legalising outposts built without formal approval in the occupied West Bank.
    "The security cabinet has approved economic measures that will ease daily civilian life in the Palestinian Authority after (Trump) who arrives tomorrow, asked to see some confidence building steps," the cabinet statement said.

    "These are concessions ahead of Trump's visit that do not harm Israel's interests," an Israeli diplomatic source said.
    The concessions include the building of two industrial zones at Jalameh in the northern West Bank and Tarqumiyeh in the south and would keep the Allenby Bridge crossing that connects the West Bank and Jordan open 24 hours a day.
    It said it would also ease restrictions on Palestinian construction in areas where it retains overall control at places that abut Palestinian urban areas.
    Among the main bones of contention between Israelis and Palestinians are Netanyahu's insistence that the Palestinians recognise Israel as the nation state of the Jewish people and the Palestinians calling for a halt to Israeli settlement building in the West Bank.
    The committee to examine legalising Israeli outposts would work for three years, although its exact mandate was still to be defined, the statement said. Over decades, settlers have built scores of hilltop outposts without receiving government approval.
    Most countries consider all Israeli settlements, including those built with official sanction, to be illegal. Israel disagrees, citing historical and political links to the land - which the Palestinians also assert - as well as security interests.
    The Palestinians want to establish a state in the West Bank and in the Gaza Strip, which Israeli forces and settlers left in 2005, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
    Trump began his first international trip since taking office in January with a visit to Saudi Arabia on Saturday. The trip has been billed as a chance to visit places sacred to three of the world's major religions.

    Haris Sohail (L) and Umar Amin (R) BIRMINGHAM: Pakistan team selector Inzamam-ul-Haq has confirmed either Haris Sohail or Umar Amin will be flown in to England to replace Umar Akmal in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy.

    Talking to reporters earlier today, Inzamam said middle-order batsman Umar Akmal had failed fitness tests ahead of the tournament and as a result, he had been withdrawn from Pakistan?s Champions Trophy squad.

    On Sunday, Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board Shahryar Khan had confirmed Umar Akmal was returning to Pakistan after failing two fitness tests in the team?s camp ahead of the tournament.
    ?We have a policy not to carry unfit players, it has been decided to call him back and send a replacement,? he had said.
    This is not the first time that Umar Akmal has come under fire for poor fitness. He had also failed the PCB?s annual fitness assessment test earlier this year and was, subsequently, dropped from the squad for the tour to the West Indies.
    He was, however, recalled to the Champions Trophy after a reasonable performance in Pakistan Cup earlier this year.

    Sunil was in news for his feud with another comedian and talk-show host Kapil Sharma. As a result of the fight, Sunil walked out of The Kapil Sharma Show.
    Ever since, Sunil has done many live shows and was expected to perform in India?s city Ahmedabad on May 27.
    However, another show organiser filed a complaint of cheating and criminal conspiracy against the comedian, according to Indian media.
    According to the event organiser, Rajpal Shah, comedian?s manager had promised him that Sunil will perform at Shah?s event. However, the contract was breached and now Sunil is holding a similar show in Ahmedabad, Shah had claimed. Rajpal filed a complaint under section 417 and 120 (B) of Indian Penal Code.
    Upon this Sunil?s manager had said that they keep getting enquiries for a specific date in India and abroad. However, the comedian could not perform at Shah?s event due to another event, scheduled on the same date. ?I returned him the advance amount of `10 lakh? [INR 1million]. So there's no case of cheating and I have all the bank statements which I can present for the same," he added.

    ISLAMABAD: A passenger was detained by authorities at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport on Monday morning for attempting to smuggle foreign currency outside the country.

    A handout issued by Pakistan Customs stated that ?60,000 ? over Rs7 million ? were recovered from a passenger en route to Dubai. The passenger has not yet been identified.
    Officials said further interrogation from the suspect is under way.

    Currency regulations in Pakistan permit passengers to legally take out of the country a maximum of $10,000 or its equivalent in other foreign currencies.

    In March 2015, model Ayyan Ali ? reportedly linked with former president Asif Ali Zardari ? was arrested at the Islamabad airport by the Airport Security Force for allegedly attempting to smuggle over $500,000 to the United Arab Emirates. She has since been released on bail while a case is under way.

    The weather in most parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and Gilgit Baltistan was pleasant with light rain, while the temperature in many areas of Sindh and Balochistan remained high on Monday.
    In Islamabad and Rawalpindi, cool breeze accompanied by light showers greeted locals to a cloudy morning.
    In Lahore and adjoining areas, the previous day's rain kept the mercury low, while drizzle is forecast for the evening, according to the Met department.
    At least two millimetres of rain was recorded in the city on Sunday.
    On the other hand, the weather remained scorching hot in many parts of Sindh. In Jacobabad, routine life was reported to have slowed down as people avoided going out under the blazing sun, especially after noon.
    The temperature in Jacobabad can soar up to 52 degrees Celsius in the summer.

    The victory was Scotland´s first over a full member of the International Cricket Council -- one of the sport´s leading 10 Test nations -- in any format.
    Sunday´s fixture was not a full one-day international but nothing could take the shine off Scotland´s day in a fixture that forms part of Sri Lanka´s preparations for next month´s Champions Trophy ODI tournament in England and Wales.
    The last time the teams met, Sri Lanka thrashed Scotland by 148 runs in Hobart during the 2015 World Cup.
    But this time Scotland held Sri Lanka to 287 in their 50 overs and then saw Coetzer (118) and Cross (106 not out) lay the platform for a successful chase with a superb opening partnership of 201.
    "It´s been a great day," Coetzer told the Cricket Scotland website. "Firstly the sun was shining and we played a great game of cricket, particularly to restrict them to less than 300 which was an outstanding performance.
    "It was one of those days, if it goes your way you have just got to keep riding that wave.
    "Quite often in the past we would have gone into our shell and not felt that we were up to the task, but out there trying to put them on the back-foot most certainly showed we were up for the task.
    "I am pleased for the guys out there to get that historic win."
    Sri Lanka chose to bat and looked on course for a decent total as opener Kusal Perera made a near run-a-ball 57 while Dinesh Chandimal top-scored with 79 and Chamara Kapugedera added 71 including four sixes.
    But Scotland´s Alasdair Evans and Stuart Whittingham checked Sri Lanka´s progress with three wickets apiece.
    Scotland then enjoyed an ideal start to their run chase as Coetzer and Cross set about the Sri Lanka attack.
    Coetzer was eventually out when caught by Sri Lanka captain Angelo Matthews off Thisara Perera for 118, which came off 84 balls and included 15 boundaries as well as four sixes.
    Sri Lanka then collected a couple of cheap wickets, but Cross made sure there was no significant collapse with an unbeaten 123-ball innings.
    Sri Lanka and Scotland meet again on Tuesday.

    Mumbai Indians crowned IPL 2017 champions. Photo: Sportzpics/IPL HYDERABAD, INDIA: Paceman Mitchell Johnson inspired Mumbai Indians to a landmark third Indian Premier League title with crucial wickets for a single run victory over Rising Pune Supergiant on Sunday.
    Mumbai are the first team to win the IPL three times in its 10 year history and captain Rohit Sharma said it had been a "brilliant effort" to turn just 129-8 into a winning score in the tense final.
    "I couldn´t ask for more. Whenever you´re defending a total like that, the first thing you have to do is believe," said Sharma.
    Johnson (3-26) and Jasprit Bumrah (2-26) got assistance from the pitch as they turned the screws on Pune with time running out.
    "When three overs were left, I had confidence in the bowlers. They´ve always done the job wherever they´ve played. It was about giving freedom to them because they´re the masters and they´ve done it before. I just told them to do whatever they want and set the field accordingly," said Sharma.
    Australian Johnson´s three wickets included the prize scalp of Pune skipper Steve Smith in the final over. Bumrah´s two strikes included the big wicket of former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni (10), playing in his seventh IPL final.

    Smith´s dogged knock went in vain as Pune, who needed 11 in the final over, lost three wickets to Johnson´s left-arm pace and some sharp fielding.
    Daniel Christian was run out while going for the third run to tie the game. Mumbai erupted with joy after becoming the only team to win three titles after triumphs in 2013 and 2015.
    Pune, who ended seventh in the eight-team event last season, lost an early wicket but Ajinkya Rahane (44) played sensible cricket with a 54-run partnership with Smith.
    No fairy tale
    Pune seemed to be cruising at 98-2 in the 17th over with Smith and Dhoni at the crease but Mumbai had other ideas in their fourth appearance in an IPL final.
    "It´s a hard one to swallow," said Smith who called the Mumbai target "below par".
    "It was a tough wicket to get runs, everyone could see that. We just couldn´t get over the line," he added.
    "It´s just disappointing to lose. It wasn´t the fairy tale finish we wanted."
    Pune pace spearhead Jaydev Unadkat took an impressive 2-19 to restrict Mumbai after they elected to bat first.
    Unadkat, 25, who has played one Test and seven one-day internationals for India, remained two wickets behind the highest wicket-taker in Bhuvneshwar Kumar (26 wickets) of Sunrisers Hyderabad.
    Sharma broke the shackles with the first boundary of the innings on the opening delivery of the sixth over. Three more followed with paceman Lockie Ferguson at the receiving end.

    Mumbai slipped to 79-7, but Krunal Pandya´s heavy hitting 47 lifted the team to respectability. He put on a fighting 50-run eight-wicket partnership with Johnson (13 not out).
    Left-hander Pandya smashed three fours and two sixes during his 38-ball blitz to help Mumbai gather 48 in the last five overs. Leg-spinner Adam Zampa and fellow Australian Christian also took two wickets each.
    Pune improved their tournament record but may have played their last game of the cash-rich league.
    Their two-year run along with the Gujarat Lions ended this season. They were denied an extension by the league´s governing council this month and both will have to place fresh bids in 2018.
    Pune and Gujarat got IPL places after Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals were banned for two years in 2015 for their role in a betting controversy. They can return for 2018.

    Photo: Rex Features  ROME: Novak Djokovic revealed on Sunday that American great Andre Agassi would be his new coach, but said they did not yet have a "long-term commitment".

    "I spoke to Andre the last couple weeks on the phone, and we decided to get together in Paris. So he´s gonna be there. We´ll see what future brings. We are both excited to work together and see where it takes us," said Djokovic, beaten 6-4, 6-3 in the Rome Masters final on Sunday by 20-year-old German Alexander Zverev.
    "We don´t have any long-term commitment. It´s just us trying to get to know each other in Paris a little bit."
    Djokovic returns to Paris next weekend as the defending French Open champion but looking to improve his clay court game after an inconsistent spell.
    He parted with long-time coach Marian Vajda earlier this month, having also ended a three-year relationship with six-time Grand Slam champion Boris Becker at the end of last season, in a bid to get back to his brilliant best.
    Becker took to Twitter to back Djokovic´s decision.
    "Excellent choice from @DjokerNole for bringing @AndreAgassi into his team ! Wishing both lots of luck in the future together!," the German tweeted.
    Given his performances of late, he will be hoping 47-year-old Agassi, an eight-time Grand Slam champion, can make a positive contribution.
    The Serbian was outplayed by Spanish nemesis Rafael Nadal on his way to defeat in the semi-finals of the Madrid Masters last week.
    And despite reaching the final in Rome on Sunday, Djokovic looked well below his clinical best before losing to German starlet Zverev in 1hr 21min.
    Next up is his defence of his title in the French capital, and Djokovic added: "He (Agassi) will not stay the whole tournament. He´s gonna stay only to a certain time, and then we´ll see after that what´s gonna happen.
    ´Tremendous respect´
    "Obviously, Andre is someone that I have tremendous respect for as a person and as a player. He has been through everything that I´m going through.
    "You know, on the court he understands the game amazingly well. I am enjoying every conversation that I have with him. But also, on the other hand, he´s someone that nurtures the family values, philanthropy work.
    "He´s a very humble man, is very educated in just -- you know, he´s a person that can contribute to my life on and off the court a lot. I´m very excited to see what is ahead of us."
    Agassi, unlike television pundit Becker, has been away from the sport for a considerable time having retired in 2006.
    Djokovic said he managed to persuade Agassi, the 1999 French Open champion, smiling: "I persuaded him."
    He added: "He´s someone that has been so successful in this sport, and he´s a legend of our sport. He´s made a mark in this sport forever. He´s won everything there is to win in tennis.
    "You know, he was a revolutionary player because he had this charisma, he had this, you know, approach to tennis and to life that was quite different from others.
    "That´s why he was so interesting. Yes, he has been away from the tour for last 10, 15 years, but speaking with him, he´s been definitely following up closely all the matches, the big matches, especially on the TV."
    "It was his call whether or not he wants to take that step and, you know, try to work with me. He has accepted it, and I´m very grateful for that. It´s exciting, of course. I´m very happy about it."

    KARACHI: Two young men drowned at the Sandspit Beach here late Sunday night, rescue officials said.

    Bodies of both the men ? identified as Rehan and Hammad Fareed ? have been recovered, rescue officials stated further, adding that the search for the latter had recommenced after being halted due to darkness earlier.
    Hammad?s friends, following the news, had arranged a generator to aid rescue efforts and reached Sandspit during the night.
    Rehan resided in Dhoraji area, near Bahadurabad, while Hammad was a resident of FB Area?s Block-6.
    Kite string slashes boy?s neck
    A young boy was injured when a kite string slashed his neck in Lahore?s Manawan area, police stated.

    The injured boy, a 10th grader, was shifted to Services Hospital in the provincial capital, officials added.
    Kite flying has been banned in Punjab for several years owing to the injuries and fatalities its strings cause.

    A pair of astronauts will venture outside the International Space Station on Tuesday for an emergency spacewalk to replace a failed computer, one of two that control major US systems aboard the orbiting outpost, NASA said on Sunday.
    The primary device failed on Saturday, leaving the $100 billion orbiting laboratory to depend on a backup system to route commands to its solar power system, radiators, cooling loops and other equipment.
    The station's current five-member crew from the United States, Russia and France were never in any danger, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration said in a statement.
    Station commander Peggy Whitson and flight engineer Jack Fischer, both with NASA, will partner for the spacewalk, which is expected to last two hours, the US space agency said.
    Earlier on Sunday, Whitson assembled and tested a spare electronics box to replace the failed device, which had been installed during a spacewalk on March 30, said NASA spokesman Dan Huot.
    NASA's last emergency spacewalk took place in December 2015 when two US astronauts left the station to release the brakes on a robot arm's mobile transporter.
    The ISS, which is staffed by rotating crews of astronauts and cosmonauts, serves as a research laboratory for biology, life science, materials science and physics experiments, as well as astronomical observations and Earth remote sensing.
    The station, owned and operated by 15 nations, flies about 250 miles (400 km) above Earth and orbits the planet about every 90 minutes. It has been continuously staffed since 2000.

    Now, we have an answer. As of Sunday morning, Covenant, from 20th Century Fox and Scott Free Productions, looks to be the winner with a three-day estimate of $36 million (27.6 million pounds) from 3,761 locations. That's just above Disney's Guardians sequel which is raking in an additional $35.3 million from 4,347 spots. The super sequel is seeing only a 46% drop from last weekend, and its total domestic earnings now exceed $300 million.
    While Alien may have won, the film's price tag in the $100 million range and marketing costs detract from the victory. The sixth instalment in the Alien franchise (not counting the two Alien vs. Predator films) was directed by Ridley Scott and stars Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, and Danny McBride. It holds a 73% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is in line with 2012's Prometheus.
    Although it came in already having made $42 million overseas and $36 million was enough to land in the top slot, Alien grossed less during its first weekend in the U.S. than Prometheus did in 2012 ($51 million). Its final domestic earnings also came in below earlier projections, which pegged the horror flick at least $40 million.
    Fox's president of domestic distribution Chris Aronson chalked the lower totals compared with Prometheus to the "normal course of business." He added that Alien: Covenant gives fans of the franchise since the 1979 original the chance to share with the younger generation (60% of the opening weekend audience was in the 18-34 demo). "Teenagers likely haven't seen Alien," he said, "This movie creates a generational bond."
    While the Alien franchise is still able to generate decent interest, the same cannot be said for Fox's other release this weekend, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul.
    The fourth live-action movie based on Jeff Kinney's middle school-centric book series opened to $7.2 million from 3,157 locations. David Bowers, who directed movies two and three, returned to the helm nearly five years after the last iteration and anointed a new titular wimp in Jason Drucker.
    The only other major release of the weekend was Everything, Everything, from Warner Bros. and MGM. The sick-lit adaptation will earn $12 million by the end of the weekend from 2,801 locations. That's enough to land in the top three. Hunger Games standout Amandla Stenberg stars as a girl with an autoimmune disease that keeps her locked up indoors. Nick Robinson plays her love interest named Olly. Everything, Everything earned the highest CinemaScore of the new released (an A- overall). 82% of its audience was female, and 74% were under 25 years old.
    "Along with our partners, MGM, we're thrilled that we hit our key demo," commented Jeff Goldstein, domestic distribution chief at Warner Bros.
    Amy Schumer's Snatched, also from Fox, will see an additional $7.6 million in earnings from 3,511 theatres, putting it in the fourth slot, ahead of Wimpy Kid. Also in its second weekend, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword continues to flop miserably with a weekend total of less than $7 million.
    With Memorial Day weekend on the horizon, the overall domestic summer box office is ten percentage points lower than it was at this time last year. That means all eyes are fixed on a duo of splashy summer releases -- Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and Paramount's Baywatch ? to hopefully make up some ground.
    "The dominance at this point by Disney and Marvel's early summer entry Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is impressive having earned more than all the other films combined," said Paul Degarabedian, senior media analyst at ComScore, who noted that Captain America: Civil War accounted for more than half of the summer take at this point last year.
    "However, a slow start does not portend a slow overall summer as many have predicted," he added, "though if the ebb and flow of this season's fortunes thus far is any indication we may have to buckle up for a pretty bumpy ride."

    Arsene Wenger's torrid year reached a calamitous climax as Arsenal failed to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in 20 years after Manchester City and Liverpool wrapped up the remaining top four places on the final day of the Premier League season.
    Wenger's side won 3-1 against Everton, but Liverpool's 3-0 victory over Middlesbrough and Manchester City's 5-0 demolition of Watford pushed Arsenal out of Europe's elite.
    After reaching the Champions League for the last 19 seasons, Arsenal will spend next term trekking around the unglamourous outposts of the Europa League.
    That indignity will cost Arsenal an estimated £50 million ($65 million) in revenue and increase the pressure on Gunners boss Wenger, who has endured a miserable season filled with fan protests and calls for his resignation.
    The Frenchman, who has yet to reveal if he will sign a new contract to extend his 21-year reign, could still finish the season with silverware as Arsenal face Chelsea in the FA Cup final next Saturday.
    But even that won't be enough to quell the mutinous atmosphere among Arsenal supporters who believe Wenger has lost his edge.
    "It's frustrating," Wenger said. "We did the job until the end.
    "Our points total is decent if you look at it over the years."
    Hector Bellerin put Arsenal ahead in the eighth minute, but when Laurent Koscielny was sent off six minutes later for a reckless challenge on Enner Valencia, Wenger must have feared the worst.
    Alexis Sanchez increased Arsenal's advantage in the 27th minute, but by the time Everton's Romelu Lukaku reduced the deficit with a 58th minute penalty, it was already clear results elsewhere had conspired against Wenger.

    Terry captained Chelsea on his farewell appearance at Stamford Bridge ahead of his post-season departure.
    Blues boss Antonio Conte paid a fitting tribute to Terry, taking him off in the 26th minute -- matching his shirt number -- and Chelsea's players formed a guard of honour as he walked off to a standing ovation by the capacity crowd.
    Willian, Eden Hazard and Pedro scored to put Chelsea in control before Michy Batshuayi capped the rout with two late goals.
    Jose Mourinho named Manchester United's youngest ever Premier League starting line-up, with an average age of 22 years and 284 days, and the kids rose to the occasion with a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.
    With United due to face Ajax in the Europa League final on Wednesday, Mourinho made no attempt to conceal his desire to keep his key players fresh for the Stockholm showpiece.
    United must win the Europa League to qualify for next season's Champions League.
    Josh Harrop showed no signs of being overawed as the 21-year-old English midfielder put United ahead with a solo effort in the 15th minute.

    Real Madrid won their 33rd La Liga title and first for five years as Cristiano Ronaldo's 40th goal of the season helped seal a 2-0 victory at Malaga on Sunday.
    Ronaldo got Madrid off to the perfect start after just two minutes before Karim Benzema's close-range finish sealed the title 10 minutes into the second half.
    Madrid beat out Barcelona at the top of the table by three points as the Catalans' come-from-behind 4-2 victory over Eibar in outgoing coach Luis Enrique's last home game in charge wasn't enough for a third straight title.
    "When you win the league it is a very important moment and for Real Madrid even more so because it is the best club in the world," Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane told Spanish TV station Movistar.
    "We had to return to winning this league."
    Real needed just a point to be assured of the title and any lingering nerves were dispelled within seconds.
    Isco latched upon a poor clearance from Luis Hernandez and his sumptuous through ball freed Ronaldo to round Carlos Kameni and fire into an empty net.
    "This is the reward for the consistency and sacrifice of 38 games," said Madrid captain Sergio Ramos.
    "This group, this squad deserves it."
    Malaga's attitude ahead of the game had been questioned after comments by their coach Michel that he would have preferred his former club had won the league before their visit to La Rosaleda to give them a guard of honour.
    However, the hosts showed why they had taken 13 points from their previous five games as the first half wore on.
    Keylor Navas produced a stunning save to prevent Sandro Ramirez from doing former employers Barca a favour with a superb free-kick.
    Sandro then saw another fierce effort deflect inches wide off Keko, who then had a great chance himself when he headed over unmarked from 10 yards out.
    However, Ronaldo should have had his second when Kameni got down low to his right to save from point-blank range.
    Benzema did make sure of the title early in the second half when he swept home the loose ball after Kameni had saved Ramos's first effort.
    In Barcelona, Enrique was given a warm send-off at the Camp Nou as he was greeted with a giant banner reading: "One of us forever".
    And Barca at least salvaged some pride by fighting back from 2-0 down to avoid a first ever defeat against Eibar.
    Japanese midfielder Takashi Inui had the visitors dreaming as he hit a pair of sweetly struck half-volleys in off the underside of the crossbar either side of half-time.
    However, David Junca turned into his own net after Neymar had hit the post to start Barca's revival 25 minutes from time.
    Yoel Rodriguez produced an incredible save to deny Lionel Messi from the penalty spot moments later.
    Barca weren't to be denied a sixth straight win to end the season though as Luis Suarez bundled home from close range before Messi made amends with his second penalty 15 minutes from time.
    And Messi rounded off the scoring with his 53rd goal of the season in stoppage time.
