    NEW YORK: Julia Roberts was named People magazine´s world´s most beautiful woman for a record 5th time on Wednesday, but the actress said she thought her best years were yet to come.
    Roberts, 49, was first given the annual honor in 1991, a year after she skyrocketed to fame in the romantic comedy Pretty Woman. She was also named most beautiful woman in 2000, 2005 and 2010.
    "I´m very flattered," Roberts told People magazine, adding "I think I´m currently peaking.
    "The actress, who won an Oscar in 2001 for playing against type in Erin Brockovich, has been married for 14 years to cinematographer Danny Moder, with whom she has three children.
    Former Friends star Jennifer Aniston was last year´s most beautiful woman for People magazine.

    Popular Indian singer Sonu Nigam addressed fans and haters on Wednesday in a press conference pertaining to his Twitter rant about the Azaan (call to prayers) on Monday.
    Nigam took to Twitter to clarify his position, saying he was willing to apologise if any of his tweets were anti-Muslim.

    He then proceeded to get tonsured on live television.
    Explaining further how his intentions were misunderstood, Sonu Nigam said his issue should not have been categorised as “right-wing or left-wing. I was talking on a social topic, not a religious issue. I apologise if someone thought otherwise”, Hindustan Times reported.

    An Indian Muslim cleric on Tuesday issued a fatwa against the musician, adding a Rs. 1-million reward for “anyone [who] can shave his hair, put a garland of old torn shoes around his neck and tour him around the country.”
    Syed Sha Atef Ali Al Quaderi, the West Bengal United Minority Council’s vice-president, commented, “If we all become so intolerant of each other’s religions, we will soon have a bunch of atheists in our country. People like Nigam should be driven out of the country.”
     
     
    To this, Nigam had responded by saying that he would get his head shaved by a Muslim, and to “keep your 10 lakhs ready Maulavi”.
    However, he did go on to wonder if it was “not religious Gundagardi”.
     
     
     
    Towards the end of his talk, Sonu Nigam said, “I am a secular person. It was not about Azaan, it was about the loud sound. Playing loud sound on a speaker is gundagardi for me.”
    “What is happening to the country? Anyone can lynch anyone or anyone can issue a fatwa. I’m not talking about any single religion,” he concluded.
     
     
    The playback singer on Monday tweeted about his frustration with Azaan, and asked, "When will this forced religiousness end in India?"

    While Indian singer Sonu Nigam's comment on Azaan sparked outrage among people, various celebrities also shared their opinion on the remark.
    Bollywood star Pooja Bhatt also slammed Sonu Nigam in favor of Azaan as she posted, “I wake each morning to the sound of church bells and the Azaan in a quiet by-lane of Bandra. I light an aggarbatti and salute the spirit of India.”
    Recently an old video of Priyanka Chopra also surfaced on the internet where she can be seen praising the Azaan. 
    The Don actress said that when she packs up her shoot for the day, she likes to sit on her terrace where the Azaan from as many as six nearby mosques can be heard at sunset.
    “I really like those five minutes. The sun is setting and the Azaan can be heard on the microphone (loudspeaker). It’s a strange, peaceful time. It’s my favourite time of the day,” the actress further said.

     While many of the social media users are sharing/retweeting the video, some of them have also asked Sonu Nigam to 'learn' something from Priyanka Chopra.

    The Sholay star tagged it "as the most charming picture which is filled with great affection."
    He wrote, “I do not know why, but I find this picture of Katrina and Shweta at a recent event, most charming and filled with great affection!”

    Seems like Hollywood actress Amber Heard is looking forward to settling down and starting a family.
    According to Amber Heard's father, she is ready to settle down with her boyfriend and tech tycoon Elon Musk.
    After her bitter divorce from actor Johnny Depp, Amber is already making plans to marry Musk.
    In an interview to a magazine, Amber’s father David talked about her daughter and her plans to settle down.
     “Amber and Elon are both very serious about each other. She would love to get married. One of the things they want to do is settle down and have a family. They are making plans for that.” Amber's father said.

    Amber was first linked to Musk, 45, last year after the pair was spotted together on several occasions both in London and Miami.

Many more surprises are still to come as actors, singers, models, dancers, and tonnes of other celebrities make their way to the city of lights to rehearse for the event's 16th edition.  
    Set to make his grand debut as the annual ceremony's host, Pakistan’s singing superstar is not the only one working on his material before the Lux Style Awards on Tuesday, April 18. Seen laughing and going through his lines with the multifaceted fashion designer-turned-director HSY, Aslam is among the dozens of the showbiz A-listers currently in Karachi city from all over the country, rehearsing their roles as presenters or performers on the night before the annual award show.

    While the crew set up for the big show and refine their camera work under the supervision of the talented choreographer ready to work his magic as the prestigious awards' director, dressed-down stars, including the likes of Imran Abbas, Sanam Saeed, Mikaal Zulfiqaar, Osman Khalid Butt, and many others, were also seen taking to the stage the night before the show to rehearse either their performances or their lines using the teleprompter.

    Legendary epic Mughal-e-Azam continues to power on, nearly 60 years after it was released, with a lavish musical based on the K Asif directed movie currently playing to packed theatres across India and a mega tribute event set to be held in the UK and various European cities.
    The enduring magic of the greatest Bollywood film ever made is continuing to captivate audiences across different generations and still setting a high standard for other Indian filmmakers to follow.

    Let’s go down the pages of history to revisit the remarkable journey, which started off as an idea by ambitious young filmmaker K Asif, who in the early 1940’s dared to dream and became a part of history.
     
    How it started
    The mastermind behind the historical epic was an ambitious filmmaker, who dreamed about the idea in his early twenties. He planned to make a film based on Urdu novel Anarkali, written by Syed Imtiaz Ali Taj in 1944, with Chandramohan and Nargis in the lead roles.
    But, after the Chandramohan passed away and the financiers left for Pakistan during Partition the project was shelved.
    He then recruited the finest writers and recommenced the project in the 1950’s with Dilip Kumar, Madhubala, Prithviraj Kapoor and Nigar Sultana in the lead roles. He would overcome various challenges to deliver Indian cinema its grandest epic and write his name permanently in the history books.
     
    No expense spared
    The epic was the highest budget movie ever made in India and if inflation along with the colourisation process is taken into account it would still hold onto that record.
    From the lavish Sheesh Mahal set, which cost the same as a movie at the time to using real jewellery and a huge battle sequence featuring 2,000 camels, 4000 horses, and 8,000 troops no expense was spared. Even the singers were paid record-breaking amounts in the quest for perfection, Bade Ghulam Ali Khan was paid a whopping Rs25,000 to sing for the movie at a time when time top singers like Lata Mangeshkar were getting Rs500.

    There was no room for fake jewellery in the film; real jewels were used throughout the movie including a scene where pearls are scatted across the floor and necklaces thrown away.
    Moreover, a grand premiere of the movie was held at the 1,100 capacity Maratha Mandir cinema in Mumbai. The foyer was decorated to look like a Mughal palace and a 40-foot cut of Prithviraj Kapoor was erected outside.
    The high profile guests were sent invites written in Urdu shaped like rolled scrolls and made it look like a chronicle from the reign of Akbar. The film’s reel arrived at the premiere on an elephant accompanied by giant bugles.

    Performances to remember
    The legendary Prithiviraj Kapoor delivered a powerful performance as the fearsome emperor determined to crush the romance of his son Prince Salim and the courtesan Anarkali. The all-conquering king goes through a range of emotions and isn’t afraid to kill his own son in the quest for what he feels is right. The imposing character impressed director K Asif so much that he named his son Akbar.
    Bollywood’s greatest and most influential actor Dilip Kumar went through a range of emotions in his iconic role as Prince Salim. He also went through plenty of drama behind the scenes including a real life and ultimately doomed romance with co-star Madhubala. The actor also had a very public falling out with director K Asif, who had married his sister and he also boycotted the premiere.
    Arguably the most beautiful Bollywood leading lady of all time put her all into the career-defining role of Anarkali. Despite suffering from a serious heart condition she was wrapped in real chains in the scene where she is imprisoned. It would be the only time cinema fans were able to see the screen queen in colour. This would be her last major role before her retirement and premature death.
     
    Eternal melodies
    The movie has one of the greatest soundtracks in the history of Indian cinema. No expense was spared on the 12 songs as music director Naushad was given an unlimited budget to create the perfect musical numbers.
    A chorus of 100 singers was used for the song Ae Mohabbat Zindabad and Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya was rewritten by lyricist Shakeel Badayuni before being approved.

    The trigger point for the movie is one of the greatest qawwalis ever seen on the big screen. Apart from being a battle royal between two stunning leading ladies, Madhubala and Nigar Sultana, catchy composition Teri Mehfil Mein was hugely entertaining. It had two legendary vocalists in Lata Mangeshkar and Shamshad Begum along with powerful lyrics. This was the moment Prince Salim connects with Anarkali and ignites an explosive chain of events.
     
    ‘History in making’
    There was mass hysteria when Mughal-e-Azam released in 1960. When bookings for the film opened there was chaos and near-riots on the streets as fans queued up for days to get tickets for the movie and at one stage police had to intervene when a crowd of 100,000 became too unruly.
    It was also appreciated by audiences and critics alike. A review from the 1960s from the leading film magazine called it history making and another said ‘it as a tribute to imagination, hard work and lavishness of its maker, Asif. For its grandeur, its beauty, and then performances of the artists it should be a landmark in Indian films.’ Since then reviewers have used words like classic, benchmark and milestone.
    The movie became the biggest grossing Bollywood movie of all time when it released in 1960 and held onto the record until Sholay released in 1975. When the hundredth anniversary of Indian cinema was marked in 2013 Mughal-e-Azam was universally declared the greatest Bollywood film ever made.
    It also won a number of prestigious honours such as National Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi and Best Film, and Best Director at the Filmfare Awards.
    Bringing colours to life

    In 2002, it was decided that Mughal-e-Azam would become the first classic Hindi film to be digitally coloured. The first step towards colourisation was the restoration of the original negatives and then this was followed by extensive research by a dedicated team to get all the colours right.
    Under the watchful eye of Shapoorji Mistry and Deepesh Salgia, a team of over 800 were employed to develop the software and do the colourisation.
    The new version was released theatrically on November 12, 2004, and became a major success. The new release also included a digital reworked soundtrack produced with the assistance of original composer Naushad.
    Mughal-e-Azam became the first full-length feature film colourised for a theatrical re-release; although some Hollywood films had been colourised earlier, they were only available for home media.
     
    The legacy
    The movie has left an impressive legacy. Apart from setting a benchmark for others to follow it has had a number of landmark moments.
    In 2016, a musical based on the film opened to packed houses and is one of the grandest productions done anywhere in the world. The historical epic has inspired books, a collection of paintings by India’s greatest artist MF Husain, theme park attractions, dance groups and more. Many film technicians have admitted to studying the film.
    The last major collection by India’s greatest painter MF Husain, shortly before his death in 2011 aged 97, was inspired by Mughal-e-Azam. He painted more than 50 giant canvases inspired by the movie he adored. It was full circle for the much-revered painter, who started his career painting cinema hoardings during his early days of struggle.
    In 2004, K Asif’s son Akbar Asif arranged for it to become the first Bollywood film in over 40 years to be released in Pakistan and presented a print to then leader General Pervez Musharraf. Proceeds of the release went to charity. This would subsequently open doors for the rest of the industry to release films in Pakistan and open new territory.

    The 1960s classic connected the youth to history; while many flocked to see the Mughal-e-Azam musical, others regularly upload videos on YouTube of them performing to songs from the movie. Scenes and songs from the movie have been viewed million of times on YouTube. All this and more shows the immortal classic will live forever, and entertain future generations not born yet.

    Stage and screen actor Kevin Spacey will host the Tony Awards, celebrating the best of Broadway theater, in June, organisers said on Tuesday.
    It will be Spacey's first time hosting the Tonys, which will take place in New York on June 11, broadcaster CBS said.
    Spacey, 57, an Oscar and Tony winner and current star of the Netflix political drama "House of Cards," also served for 10 years as artistic director of London's Old Vic theater company.
    "I was their 2nd choice for 'Usual Suspects,' 4th choice for 'America Beauty,' and 15th choice to host this year's Tony Awards. I think my career is definitely going in the right direction," Spacey quipped in a statement.
    "Maybe I can get short-listed to host the Oscars if everyone else turns it down,” he added.
    Spacey follows British actor and talk show host James Corden, who helmed the 2016 Tonys and went on to host the Grammy Awards show in February.
    Nominations for the Tony awards, which cover plays, musicals and actors on Broadway, will be announced on May 2. Hip hop historical musical "Hamilton" swept the board last year with 11 wins.

    In midst of the controversy created by Sonu Nigam over morning Azaan, film-maker and actress Pooja Bhatt has come out in favour of the morning prayer call and the sound of church bells.
    The actress took to Twitter to post a tweet on the ongoing topic, showing she has no chill over anti-religion rants.
    “I wake each morning to the sound of church bells and the Azaan in a quiet by-lane of Bandra. I light an aggarbatti and salute the spirit of India,” she posted.
    Bollywood singer Sonu Nigham managed to land himself another controversy on Monday after tweeting about “forced religiousness in India”. 
    The singer, who is known for singing love songs, ranted about having to wake up to the sound of Azaan in the morning in a series of tweets.
    The singer’s tweets were not taken lightly and Twitteratti reacted strongly to his social media rant.
    This is not the first time the topic of Azaan has been picked up by celebrities in India. Earlier, Bollywood powerhouse performer Priyanka Chopra said that she finds the sound of Azaan mesmerising.

    After Shaan Shahid appeared in the steamy cover shoot of Niche’s lifestyle with Kiran Malik, the actor has now shared the snippets of his upcoming action/thriller movie Zarrar.

    Excited? You better be.
    The BTS video of the thriller movie which is written and directed by Shaan was shared by him on his official Instagram account where he can be seen directing the movie in candid clips.
    Shaan’s co-actor Kiran Malik and veteran actor Nadeem Baig and Adnan Butt who are also included in the cast can be seen sharing the screen casually in the video.
    While speaking to Geo news about the movie, Shaan said that Zarrar shows a patriotic man who loves his country and wants to eliminate those elements which facilitate terrorists and terrorism in the country.
    According to official sources, Zarrar is shot in Pakistan & UK with the highest budget for an action film in Pakistan’s cinematic history.
    Reportedly, Zarrar cast also includes popular French and British Jamaican actors.

    KARACHI: Drawn as mere dots, dashes or lines on maps to partition one space from another, border specifically the artificial man-made kind is chosen as a subject of analysis by artist Saba Qizilbash in her latest works.
    Collectively entitled ‘by land’ the series explores the notion and nature of this dividing line that is effectively invisible and intangible with no physical existence yet its impact on the human life around it is of great significance.
    A Pakistani married into an Indian Kashmiri family who is frequently crossing borders to visit both her place of birth and Kashmir from her residence in Dubai, the inspiration for her current body of work is somewhat personal in nature.
    Trained at the National college of Arts in Lahore and the Rhode Island School of Design, Qizalbash investigates the concept in its dual function of exclusion and inclusion through the symbolic use of wooden barriers, watchtowers, lighthouses, barbed wires, fences, checkpoints and so forth.
     Friendly or disputed, it’s complicated and things are always a bit tense when it comes to these unnatural peripheries designed to separate and disrupt human interaction, explains the artist who has experienced the humanitarian consequence of these border lines at a very personal level.  
    Even in the wake of globalisation marked by the free movement of people, goods and ideas, these borders are no less significant, according to the artist whose primary tool for visual expression of the subject becomes pencil instead of paint.
    Much of her works being in response to her personal experiences, her current body of work also reflects the often unequal and discriminatory levels of scrutiny, surveillance and screening that a traveler of colour is subjected to, adds Qizilbash who evocatively attempts to address some of the profound implications and challenges of these socially, culturally, and politically demarcated boundaries.
    Currently teaching at the American University in Dubai, the solo exhibition of her latest drawings at Koel Gallery is to continue till April 21st.

    The singer, who is known for singing love songs, ranted about having to wake up to the sound of Azaan in the morning in a series of tweets.
    However, his statements did not go down well with Twitterati and the enraged lot also shared their view point on social media and shunning the comments of the singer.

    Humera Arshad, who is known for her diverse singing style that includes ghazals in both Urdu and Punjabi, pop numbers, and folk music, is now slated to join Coke Studio in Season 10, which is expected to start later this year.
    In an interview with Dawn, the artist revealed that she will be singing on Coke Studio’s 10th season, bringing a fresh perspective to a very popular song by veteran musician Runa Laila. “I can’t […] reveal the song that I am going to sing but I can share that it will be a classical number,” she stated.
    The singer also touched upon the subject of the music space’s current condition. She commented on how the industry has faced lacklustre growth over the past few years and that there’s a dearth of music labels, which is why “Coke Studio is doing a great job of reviving old songs”.
    Arshad is all set for the release of her fourth music album, which will feature eight songs in Urdu and Punjabi languages alongside videos for each.

    It seems as if Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt and the law have a special relationship.
    A new arrest warrant has been issued by a Mumbai court against the Munna Bhai star for failing to appear in court in regard to a criminal intimidation case filed by producer Shakeel Noorani.
    The case is an old one, dating back to 2002 when Dutt had apparently signed for Noorani’s film Jaan Ki Baazi. The artist subsequently quit filming midway, and the producer suffered an INR 50-million loss.
    With regard to the case, the next hearing of which is scheduled for August 29, 2017, Noorani’s lawyer Neeraj Gupta commented, “We had sought arrest warrant against Dutt for non-appearance. The court has allowed our application,” Times of India reported.
    The producer alleged that Dutt took away the money he was paid, and never returned it after abandoning the project. He took the matter to Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association (IMPPA), and then to Bombay High Court, following which “he started receiving threatening from some underworld figures who asked him to withdraw the case,” the publication added.
    Moreover, the star’s spokesperson commented, “This case has been going on since a long time and the present situation has arisen because of the communication lapse between our lawyers and us. […] We would take immediate measure to rectify the situation,” Indian Express mentioned.
    The actor was released a few months back after being jailed in relation to the Arms Act in the 1993 Mumbai blasts issue.

    LOS ANGELES: When Barbara Ann Bregoli appeared on CBS's "Dr Phil" show in December to get advice about how to control her car-stealing teenage daughter, nobody could have predicted she would be giving birth to a villainous viral star.
    In just a few months, daughter Danielle, now 14, has garnered 8.8 million Instagram followers. She has racked up brand sponsorships and become regular fodder for the tabloids with provocative poses and viral videos, despite her self-confessed penchant for stealing cars and using foul language in an accent she said she picked up "from the streets."
    She even has a catchphrase, "Cash me ousside, how bow dah?" (Catch me outside, how about that?) that she regularly includes in social media posts after she challenged the audience to fight her while on Dr Phil's show.
    Danielle Bregoli's infamy, including her catchphrase, has drawn endorsements from brands that experts say are likely paying her thousands of dollars to post about their products, a personal line of emojis and a deal for a reality TV show.
    A representative for Bregoli declined requests for an interview. Attempts to reach her mother by phone were unsuccessful.
    "Danielle is the first of her kind in that she rode this singular TV experience and the catchphrase and profiles and memes that ensued have built a revenue-generating business," said Jonathan Davids, chief executive officer at influencer marketing platform Influicity.
    Yet, viral stars who become magnets for brands looking to quickly increase eyeballs may find that it is hard to find financial longevity in being a villain on social media, said Davids and other experts.
    So far, Bregoli's fan base has only grown after a slew of misdeeds, including an undated home video of Bregoli and her mother in a physical altercation, which started circulating last month and has now caught the attention of her hometown police in Boynton Beach, Florida.
    Bregoli has endorsed products such as clothing company FashionNova, teeth grills and weightloss drink FitTea. Brands could be paying her up to $50,000, said Rishabh Sharma, CEO of Poletus, which provides marketing tools to brands and influencers.
    Los Angeles-based clothing brand PizzaSlime, helmed by creative directors Nick Santiago and Matthew Hwang, partnered with Bregoli to create a line of merchandise that featured her catchphrase.
    "We just thought she was funny," Hwang said of Bregoli.
    Most of PizzaSlime's nine Bregoli items, including t-shirts, blankets and totes bearing her face, are sold out online. Hwang said it was unlikely they would work with Bregoli again.
    "We like to work with interesting ideas and people, and once we work together, we move onto the next thing," he said.
     
    THE LONGEVITY OF CONTROVERSY
    Bregoli is not the only star to cash in on being a rebel but if she hopes to achieve long-term social media success, she has to evolve beyond the controversy, said Sharma.
    Corinne Olympios, 24, a contestant who divided opinion on the recent season of ABC reality show "The Bachelor" for tactics that included going topless, walked away from the show with more than 720,000 Instagram fans.
    The Miami native is moving on from "The Bachelor" with a clothing line launched this month and plans to write a book, create a beauty line and star in her own reality show.
    "I'm just trying to really build my brand right now," she told Reuters.
    For Bregoli to outpace her 15 minutes of viral fame, she would have to embark on a coming-of-age journey and perhaps transition from a rebel without a cause to a rebel with a cause, Sharma said.
    One such cause could be to speak out against cyber bullying, Sharma said. Last month, Bregoli posted an image of the barrage of negative comments and insults she received on Instagram, captioning it, "Everyone want to point the finger at me."
    "Danielle can still retain the rebel side, but instead of rebelling against her mother, she can rebel against some of the social injustice being done," Sharma said.

    LOS ANGELES: Universal´s action thriller "The Fate of the Furious" hit the ground in super-high gear this weekend, taking in $100.2 million on North American screens while roaring to record global revenues of more than a half-billion dollars, industry analysts estimated.
    Exhibitor Relations said the latest chapter in Universal Studio´s "Fast and Furious" series accounted for nearly two-thirds of North American revenues over the three-day Easter weekend, leaving previous frontrunner "The Boss Baby" in its dust with just $15.5 million in sales. That Fox/DreamWorks Animation film has now grossed $116.3 million domestically.
    While the latest "Fast" opened strongly, the manic muscle-car-filled film -- with megastars Vin Diesel and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson -- made nearly a third less in its first weekend than the previous "Fast and Furious" chapter, which scored $147.2 million.
    But the new film had an exceptionally strong performance in the rest of the world, led by China, bringing in $432.3 million. With North American sales added in, the estimated $532.5 million global debut would break the record of $529 million held by "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," website BoxOfficeMojo.com reported.
    "Beauty and the Beast" continued to draw viewers, earning $13.6 million in its fifth week out. The Disney blockbuster, starring Emma Watson and Dan Stevens, has taken in $454.7 million domestically while pushing past $1 billion internationally.
    The animated "Smurfs: The Lost Village" from Sony came in next at $6.5 million. That was half its opening takes from a week earlier.
    Holding fifth spot on North American screens was "Going in Style." The Warner Bros. comedy, starring Morgan Freeman, Alan Arkin and Michael Caine as aging bank robbers, had weekend sales of $6.3 million.
    Rounding out the top 10 are:

    "Get Out" ($2.9 million)
    "Power Rangers" ($2.9 million)
    "The Case for Christ" ($2.7 million)

    اس کی ہر بات کو جب ہم نے یاد کیا
    اس کی زات میں پایا خود کو عجب ہی کمال کیا
    اسی طرح ہم نے دل ناشاد کو شاد کیا
    ہر بار اس کی نگاہ نے ایک حسین پیغام دیا
    ہر سانس اس نے ہمارے ہی نام کیا
    صبح نے بھی ہمیں یہ ہی ایک پیام دیا
    برسوں بعد دل نے ہمارے یہ حسین کام کیا
    خان کہہ دو ہاں میں نے بھی پیار کیا
