ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday suspended the death sentence of two prisoners convicted by the military courts.Β 

An appeal submitted by the convicts was examined during the hearing held today with Justice Aijaz Fazl heading the three-member bench.Β 

The court issued a notice to the concerned parties and adjourned the hearing for an indefinite period.Β 

The convicts, Fazl Rabbi and Saeed Raheem, were convicted of terror activities in Swat.Β 

Earlier in March, President Mamnoon Hussain signed the 28th Amendment Bill 2017 extending military courts for another two years.

The bill, following the President?s signature, is now an Act of Parliament. Under this Act, the duration of the military courts has been extended for another two years, starting from January 7, 2017.
