Unfair & Ugly: Abhinav Mukund Guns Down Twitter Bigots Who Trolled Him For His Skin Colour

One might choose to believe that they live in a world full of beautiful lies, where everything seems to be perfect with no social evils to weigh one down. But, sadly the real world is at the farthest distance from this ideal situation and problems like racism, sexism and casteism seem to be a package deal we can't get away from. What's worse is that issues like racism are being handled so loosely that people have started thinking there's nothing wrong in throwing racist comments at someone or questioning someone's colour is perfectly normal. And left-handed batsman Abhinav Mukund was the recent target of colour discrimination. However, Abhinav didn't let this affect him and gave a fitting response to everyone who gives utmost priority to fairness and skin colour.

Last night, in an inspirational post on Twitter, Abhinav took a strong stand against racial discrimination and urged people to be comfortable in their own skin. Abhinav writes, “People's obsession with my skin colour has always been a mystery to me. Anyone who follows cricket would understand the obvious. I have played and trained day in and day out in the sun and not once have I regretted the fact that I have tanned or lost a couple of shades.”

He further added, “I have been subject to a lot of name calling and I have laughed and shrugged it off because I had bigger goals! Affected young, I toughened up because this was never something that would pull me down.” Abhinav, who has been playing cricket since the young age of 10 said that he was speaking on behalf of all of those people who experience “ridicule based on the colour of one's skin”, something which people have no control over. He further said that with this message, he does not want to gain any kind of sympathy; instead, he hopes to change the mindset of the people.

Twitter was clearly miffed over this racism and showered their love and support for Abhinav. His teammate Hardik Pandya too commended him for writing such a strong post.

Pains to see a statement of this kind from you Abhi. Humans have become racial, You are destined to achieve greatness Darling keep grinding

Continue to grind it out in the sun more brother. Don't ever pay heed to color obsessed freaks. All strength to you :-)

Racial obsession of the worse kind. Far worse than the racial divide, which itself is despicable. Feels fury; no need for sorry for anyone.

On one hand some people are leaving no stone unturned to change people's opinion about racism, there are some jobless people who think that their only purpose in life is to crack insensitive jokes. Abhinav is currently touring in Sri Lanka and played his first Test for India vs Sri Lanka at Galle. While, Abhinav got above all the struggles and mean comments to do what he loves, trolls couldn't look beyond his skin colour. This is the reason why some people continue to remain worthless trolls and Abhinav is making the whole country proud with his achievements.
