Twitter Can't Stop Admiring India's Second Woman Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman

Reshuffling of the Union cabinet has been making headlines for quite some time now, with speculations and suggestions flowing in from all directions around who will take charge of which ministry. Yesterday, all these doubts were put to rest when the final list of inductees was announced and as many as nine ministers took oath for their respective duties and roles they will be performing in the Narendra Modi led government. Having said that, of all the ministries, defence had everyone's eyes glued to it and the moment Niramala Sitharaman was announced as the new Defence Minister, internet was abuzz with cheers and applauses. And why not? She is the first woman to take full-time charge of this coveted position and only second after former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Gandhi had taken defence ministry as an additional charge.

People are visibly elated and overjoyed with the Sitharaman's selection and hailing it as a great step towards women empowerment. But this is not the only reason to rejoice. This is momentous also because two of the major positions in the Cabinet for Security are being held by women and not to forget, two really strong women who have shown the world what we are capable of. While, Sitharaman is yet to prove her mettle, the other minister has already won our hearts with her prompt and efficient working style. We are talking about none other than External Affairs minister Sushma Swaraj, who has rescued many Indians stuck abroad for various reasons.

From ministers, commoners to celebrities, Twitter was flooded with praises and applauds for Sitharaman, hailing this as a monumental step towards women empowerment. Actor Randeep Hooda too took to Twitter to appreciate this move and congratulate Sitharaman.

Call it a move towards women empowerment or a fresh change in the cabinet, Indians are loving their new Defence Minister already and only time will tell how she excels in fulfilling the responsibilities that have already been laid down on her plate.
