Bangladesh's Sabbir Rahman Becomes Butt Of Jokes After Comparing Himself To Virat Kohli

Gone were the days when the Bangladesh cricket team were considered minnows or the perennial whipping boys in international cricket. The Tigers have been roaring their way to getting the better of some of the strongest teams in the sport. Their recent Test victory over the mighty Australians was a testimony to their long-awaited turnaround in cricket.

A team that was dismissed of their chances by Aussie skipper Steve Smith ahead of the series, eventually pulled off a heist with a thrilling 20-run win over Australia. It was Bangladesh's 10th victory in 101 Tests and their first-ever triumph against Australia in the longest version of the game.

It was Shakib Al Hasan whose consecutive five-fours in the two innings helped his side achieve the impossible. And, going by his recent form, the 30-year-old is currently on top of his game and arguably the best all-rounder in international cricket.

While Shakib has been doing his bit to elevate the reputation of his team, hard-hitting batsman Sabbir Rahman, too, has stepped up in the ongoing Test series against Australia to ensure Bangladesh's batting-order doesn't crack under pressure. So much so that his aggressive half-century on Day 1's play of the second Test reminded Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon of Virat Kohli's majestic stroke-play.

"He's a good player, he reminds me of Virat Kohli who is probably a pretty good role model to have in the subcontinent. That's only on (Sabbir's) persona out there and the way he walks around the crease and the shots he's played here," Lyon, who had the right-hander stumped, said.

If Lyon heaped praise on Bangladesh's star batsman, Rahman, himself, didn't shy away from comparing himself with the Indian run-machine. “I am happy to make a contribution to the team. I had the right mindset when I went out to bat. I don't have much experience but I train a lot. It is important to play in your own way on these wickets.

I might have got out earlier if I tried to survive in this wicket. I can become a batsman like Virat Kohli, everything is possible. I can't be compared to him; it is more important to score runs for the team,” Sabbir said.

Though the 25-year-old undeniably looks poised to scale new heights in international cricket, many fans felt that it was still a long-road ahead for him to match the artistry of a batsman like Kohli.
