PML-N leader Talal Chaudhry 

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Talal Chaudhry said on Wednesday that they have brought the review petition in the Supreme Court so that any mistakes [in the July 28 judgment] may be corrected.

Addressing the media outside the court, Chaudhry, who was made the state interior minister in the new federal cabinet, claimed no one; neither the public nor legal experts understood the [Supreme Court's Panama Papers case] decision. 

"This is for Pakistan?s future. We are not asking for a favour, Nawaz is only asking for his right," he shared. 

Chauhdry opined that the public opinion is supreme, and called for legislation to ensure the people?s mandate is not subverted. 

"Parliament is the most supreme state institution. We respect the courts and desire a justice system which is so strong that those who make the Constitution should not be the only ones that are punished but it should also punish those who subvert the Constitution," he said, hinting at former president Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf. 

Hitting out at Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rasheed, who was one of the three petitioners in the Panama Papers case, the PML-N leader said "Sheikh sahab, you don?t know any English. So I wonder who writes all these English language writ petitions for you?". 

The public knows who gives you the 'English injection', he added. 

Talking about the upcoming by-election in Lahore on the former prime minister's seat, he said they are fighting against the 'Musharraf like-minded group' in NA-120. 

"The people?s decision [in NA-120] will be final. We will see who wins: Musharraf?s viewpoint or constitutional supremacy," he said. 

Later, PML-N's Barrister Zafarullah addressed the media. He said Nawaz Sharif's Iqama [UAE employment contract] was not mentioned in any petition. 

"World over the rule is that a matter mentioned in the petition is adjudicated on," he said, adding that, "we think there is no such decision in Pakistan or even the world?s history".
