LAHORE: Maryam Nawaz, the daughter of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, departed for London on Monday to see her ailing mother, Kulsoom Nawaz.

Kulsoom underwent surgery for throat cancer on September 1 after it was revealed that she is suffering from lymphoma, a cancer of the lymph nodes on the left side of her neck.

Nawaz had already left for London to be with his wife on August 30 and is yet to return.

Maryam, who left from Lahore airport in a private airlines flight along with her daughter and husband, successfully ran the campaign for her mother in the NA-120 by-election and thus could not go see her mother earlier.

The by-election on Nawaz's home seat, held on Sunday, was bagged by Kulsoom by a winning margin of around 14,000 votes.

The seat was vacated after Nawaz's disqualification by the Supreme Court in its July 28 judgment in the Panama Papers case.

With Maryam and husband MNA Capt (retd) Safdar's departure to London, the Sharif family members summoned on Tuesday to appear before the Islamabad Accountability Court hearing three references against them are all out of the country.

Last week, the accountability court summoned Nawaz, his sons Hussain and Hasan, daughter Maryam and son-in-law Safdar on September 19 with regards to two corruption references filed against them by the National Accountability Burea (NAB).

Sources said the former premier and his sons have been summoned with regards to the Al Azizia Steel Mills and flagship companies reference whereas the former three, along with Maryam and Safdar have been summoned on the same date in light of the London flats reference.

NAB filed the references in light of the Panama Papers case verdict of the Supreme Court, which has given the accountability court six months to wrap up the case against them.
