The 2019 Porsche 'Mission E' Is Expected To Give Tesla A Reason To Worry

The Porsche electric sedan, which is being speculated to make the Tesla Model S sweat with worry, will make its first set of deliveries in 2019 and we can't wait to see Porsche turn the world around with its electric debut.

So, what does Porsche's all-electric vehicle have to do with Tesla's reigning Model S and why should they be worried? There are two solid reasons for that, but first spare a minute to look at the Mission E that was revealed in 2015 and has been confirmed for production earlier this month.

It's a gorgeous vehicle that is designed to stun, family style. Yup, it's a four seater car meant for long drives, covering up to 500km on a single charge. That means you could take a quick trip from Delhi to Agra and back, or from Mumbai to Shirdi and back (you catch the drift) without having to worry about running out of charge.

This, of course, is if Porsche decides to bring the Mission E to India, and there isn't any information available on that as of yet.

Here is why this could be very well be a possible threat to the Tesla Model S.

No, it can't beat Tesla's instant torque--while the Model S can jump 0-100kmph in 2.28 seconds, thanks to the ludicrous update, the Mission would take 3.5 seconds. That means if both cars pick up from the get go, the Tesla will be ahead of the Mission E, at least for the first few meters.

But it does have a few tricks up its sleeve that may distract the Tesla fanbase and bring non-users on board.

1. It can fast charge

By that we mean really fast. In mere 4 minutes of charging, you can add a 100km to its driving range. It charges up to 80 percent in just 15 minutes. The Model S, on the other hand, can take up to 9.5 hours for a full charge. Also in order to push sails, Porsche is working on bringing charge points to roadways in Europe and the US. Its simple: The more charge points on roadways, the lesser the reservations in buying an electric vehicle.

2. It has a higher drive range

Drive ranges are a significant factor in electric car purchasing decisions, as limited drive ranges push electric car enthusiasts away. Porsche did a decent job by providing a 500km drive range on a singular charge, like we mentioned before. The Tesla Model S currently offers a best of 400km on one charge.

3. It falls under a million dollars

Owning an electric vehicle in the present scenario is, in general, a luxury. If you wanted to get a Model S, you'd have to shell out $88,700 or Rs. 57.5 lakh and this is their top model we're talking about. In order to get yourself a Mission E, you'd be spending $3,700 lesser! Whatttt? Yes, you'd be spending lesser on a Porsche electric than on a Tesla because it's priced at $85,000 or Rs. 55.14 lakhs.

If owning a Porsche is easier than owning a Tesla, not many would think before choosing the former. It's a long way to 2019 but the battle of two automobile majors has got us licking our lips already in anticipation!
