ISLAMABAD: Senior journalist Ahmad Noorani called Director General Inter Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Major General Asif Ghafoor and thanked him for his best wishes and support.
During their conversation, Noorani said he had not blamed anyone for the assault on him and a few opportunists were trying to create fiction which should be ignored.
DG ISPR assured the senior journalist that full support was being given to the state machinery to trace the culprits. Major General Ghafoor also extended his best wishes for Noorani?s healthy recovery.
The assault on Noorani had been condemned by the DG ISPR on October 28. In a tweet, Major General Ghafoor said: ?Attack on Ahmed Noorani condemned. A malicious attempt to cause unrest. Full support for efforts to catch culprits & bring them to justice.?
Ahmad Noorani was assaulted on October 27 on the federal capital?s Khayabane Suharwardy road. The senior journalist?s car was stopped by three men travelling on a motorcycle while the journalist was on his way home in Islamabad from Rawalpindi. The three men got down from their unmarked motorcycle after chasing down Noorani's car while another three, who were standing where the car was stopped with another unmarked motorcycle, joined in and severely beat up Noorani and his driver with iron rods after throwing out the keys from the ignition.
Police have submitted the initial report of the attack to the Interior Ministry and also released sketches of two suspected attackers. The notice issued by the Aabpara Police says that a prize of Rs200,000 will be given to anyone providing information on the suspects and the informants' names would be kept secret.
The pictures of six suspects, extracted from CCTV footage obtained from Safe City Project, have also been sent to NADRA for identification.
