Delhi's Smog Stalled A Ranji Trophy Match And We Desperately Need Someone To Clean Bowl It

The smog enveloping Delhi and its surrounding areas is showing no signs of retreating anytime soon. The PM levels of Delhi's air have already shot far beyond the permissible limit. While a reading of 50 PM 2.5 is the measure of good quality air, the air in Delhi already crossed the figure of 495, which is officially hazardous to life. While primary schools were shut and parking prices increased, the rest of Delhi still found itself scampering to get by.

And now, the rising smog has reached the areas surrounding Delhi. Haryana Ranji team captain Amit Mishra recently shared a picture of a cricket field in Lahli, Haryana, that has been completely enveloped by the smog. The situation is so bad there's almost zero visibility. The smog has made it impossible for the Haryana and Rajasthan teams to continue with the match on its fourth day.

The Haryana Ranji team was all set to win the game against Rajasthan, leading with a score of 252 runs on the third day, but the smog has decided to play spoilsport and has disrupted the game for good.

Indian Medical Association (IMA) has declared this a public health emergency given the harmful effects of breathing in this poisonous air. Prolonged exposure to the polluted air in Delhi can increase risk of heart stroke, lung cancer and respiratory diseases. People have been advised to stay indoors and use N95 masks when stepping outside.

When the situation is so dangerous, we wonder how our Ranji cricketers would fare playing in the open field for hours at end. The future looks rather foggy.
