LAHORE: A male cheetah, the latest addition in the Lahore Zoo, passed away due to diarrhea after spending just 30 days at the zoo.

The four-year-old cheetah and its female pair were imported from South Africa on October 29, this year. However, the female cheetah had died earlier.

The male cheetah was diagnosed with diarrhea, despite getting treatment by experts from the University of Veterinary and Animal Science (UVAS), it didn't survived.

The death of the animals has raised a fresh wave of questions against the zoo management. In mere 14 months, the zoo has lost its female elephant, Suzi, a giraffe, lion cubs among other animals.

Speaking over the issue, Director Lahore Zoo Hassan Ali said that the management is aware of its responsibilities. Many measures have been adopted to provide conducive environment to the animals, he added.

He shared that the cheetah was constantly under observation, and experts were in contact with the staff.

The body of Cheetah has been shifted to the UVAS for postmortem, he added.

On May 13, Lahore Zoo?s sole elephant and visitors? most beloved attraction, Suzi, died after an acute pain in her legs, according to zoo officials.

Officials of the zoo administration said Suzi had been transported to Pakistan in the late 1980s and was around 35-years-old.

They added that the female elephant had reached her natural life span limit.

According to reports, the zoo administration had discontinued rides on the elephant several years ago after realising that she could not support the weight on her back.

Officials said Suzi was the most attractive feature at the zoo and would enthrall visitors, especially children, for hours.
