A Twitter War Erupts As Indian Football's Posterboy Sunil Chhetri Gets Booed During ISL Match

In what turned out to be an absolute cracker of a game, FC Goa edged past 10-man Bengaluru FC to claim a 4-3 win at the Fatorda stadium during the Indian Super League (ISL) clash on Thursday.

The excitement was sky-high as the game witnessed this season's first hat-trick via Goan striker Ferran Corominas. There was also a spike in the tempers on the field when Bengaluru goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu needlessly challenged Manuel Lanzarote and punched the Goan player on the neck. Soon, Sandhu received his marching orders by the referee, while Goa extended their lead through a penalty.

Both teams played attacking football which arguably made the match one of most thrilling contests this season. Despite, playing almost the entire second-half with 10 men, Bengaluru put up some tough competition to the hosts before their impressive start to the season but suffered an honourable defeat.

It was Goa's second win this season also their first at home. The hosts did almost everything right in the game and were arguably worthy winners, but their fans booing Sunil Chhetri - the talisman of Indian football team - was probably uncalled for.

Despite coming so close to winning the match with 10 men, Bengaluru fans must've felt unlucky which somewhat reflected in the tweet by their skipper. "To the fans who made it to the stands, we heard you all night, gave our all but fell short. We will learn and go again and again," Chhetri tweeted after the game.

Following Chhetri's heartfelt tweet, many Bengaluru fans expressed their displeasure at the way Indian football captain was treated by the Goa supporters.

Goa fans must be ashamed to boo a player who had done so much to this country such a classless fucktwats..

Amid the outrage by the Bengaluru supporters, the Goa FC fans tackled fire with fire.

This ain't International Football , SC was playing for the opponents.
We booed every BFC player without looking at nationality.just to get on their nerves

And, soon the debate expanded to the conduct of players on the field.

But, in the end, Bengaluru fans lifting the spirits and cheering Chhetri after the cruel result was probably the best thing on Twitter.

We lost but we are proud of how you guys played. 10 man down and literally made a comeback. Hard luck.
Advance happy married life sir
