Sushant Singh Dropped His Surname andamplsquoRajputandamprsquo To Show Support For Sanjay Leela Bhansali

We might be a secular country and all religions and castes might have equal rights in the eyes of the law, our history might be enriching, but all this goes down the drain when we fail each other in terms of humanity. The recent happening in Rajasthan where the shooting of ‘Padmavati’ was halted because of the protests is an example of ignorance mixed with violence. Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the director, was also hurt as many protestors slapped him.

The entire film fraternity came forward in support of Sanjay and condemned the attack.

Mr. Bhansali , Sir. I stand with you. This is so infuriating!!!!

Sanjay bhansali is a film maker who the country should be proud of. You will know when u see #padmavati the dignity he brings to it.

Thoughts of what has transpired with Sanjay Bhansali today are just not leaving me!! Feeling helpless and angry!! This cannot be our future!

— Karan Johar (@karanjohar) January 27, 2017

What happened on Padmavati sets is appalling and heinous. Is this the state of the world.

— Sonam Kapoor (@sonamakapoor) January 27, 2017

While all the celebs have been supportive and have been making strong statements, Sushant Singh Rajput has gone a step forward. As you might be aware, the attack was led by a Rajput organisation called the Karni Sena and since Sushant is a Rajput himself, he dropped his surname to show support and urged others to follow suit.

We would suffer till the time we're obsessed with our surnames.
If you're that courageous, give us your first name to acknowledge.#padmavati

There is no religion or cast bigger than humanity
and Love & compassion makes us human.
Any other division is done for selfish gains.

It comes as no surprise that this earned him a lot of flak from his own community and people tweeted some crass words for him, but nothing stopped him from speaking his mind. Vandalism and violence is no answer to any question in the world and when the movie has not even released yet, how can people subject a respected director to such disgrace. Is it too much in the name of art?
