We all know the OnePlus 5T has facial recognition capabilities that do the same job as the iPhone X but works a little differently. The OnePlus 5 looked eerily similar to the iPhone 7 Plus thanks to the dual camera setup and the antenna lines on the back. OnePlus explained that it was the most convenient choice even though they experimented with a few other options.

Fast forward a few months, the OnePlus 5T rolled out with a few minor updates in design that makes it stand out a little bit. However, according to a reliable leaker, the OnePlus 6 is going to be copying yet another feature from the iPhone X. It may be too early for detailed OnePlus 6 rumours, but a “reliable tipster” told Android Marvel (https://androidmarvel.com/oneplus-6-feature-advanced-face-recognition-technology-rumor/) the OnePlus 6 will have the same advanced facial recognition system as the iPhone.

According to rumours, the OnePlus 6 will have a camera setup very similar to the TrueDepth camera on the iPhone X. It will have a 3D module that will also use infrared light to measure depth. The OnePlus 6 will not be lifting the “Notch” design and instead, it will have a top bezel where an array of extra sensors will be placed. 

OnePlus 5T's current facial recognition feature is extremely fast but is not as secure as Apple's Face ID. OnePlus may have included this feature in future phones as a way to curb security flaws. The inclusion of additional sensors means that the Chinese company is looking to make its facial recognition feature more secure for mobile payments and for other forms of security.

The OnePlus 6 may already be in development and will probably be announced in summer 2018. Until then we can only speculate about the smartphone and what new features it will bring to the table. But, regardless of whether OnePlus makes the move to 3D facial recognition tech or not, industry experts already expect plenty of Android device maker to copy Apple's Face ID.
