Dell's best selling laptop the XPS 13 just got a revamped look, feel and specifications to make it one of the top ultraportables in the market. The XPS 13, more or less, looked the same for the past three years and for 2018, the American company decided to give it a much-needed overhaul. The laptop has a brand new chassis and an 8th-gen Intel CPUs. The XPS 13 is said to have better battery life and for the first time will be available in white.

A closer look at the specifications reveals it has a thinner and lighter body that Dell claims to be 24 percent smaller. It weighs only 1.21 kilograms and measures 11.9 x 7.8 x 0.46-inches. The new XPS 13 is closer in size to Apple's 12-inch MacBook Air and it features Dell's signature Infinity Edge display. The laptop is powered by the latest Intel 8th Generation Quad Core processor and can support fast booting SSDs up to 1TB. You can also expect the longest battery life of any 13-inch laptop, with almost 20 hours on FHD, up to 11 on UHD (Mobile Mark 14). Customers can make a choice between an 8th-Gen Intel Core i5-8250U CPU, or a Core i7-8550U chip, up to 16GB of RAM and even a 1TB PCIe SSD if you need a lot of onboard storage.

The XPS 13 has also ditched the traditional USB Type-A ports for three USB-C ports, much like the MacBook Pro by Apple. If you are still using devices that utilise the USB Type-A ports, Dell includes a USB-C to USB-A dongle in the box. Out of the three ports, two can support Thunderbolt 3 and can also be used as a charging port.

The XPS 13 is the world's first laptop built with GORE Thermal Insulation, the same silica aerogels that have been used in the high tech science and extreme engineering environments to diffuse and dissipate heat, such as insulation on the Mars Rover and Hyper Velocity Particle capture in the Stardust Probe. This material directs heat out of the device, keeping your system cool while it works.

The laptop can be activated by voice, touch or facial recognition. Users can log in with a look or a touch with the infrared camera and optional fingerprint reader in the power button for Windows Hello.

The new XPS 13 is available globally beginning today on Dell.com and Microsoftstore.com, starting at $999.99. Dell is also offering an Ubuntu-based developer edition with Linux preloaded starting at $949.99 beginning today on Dell.com in the US and in Europe as well. As of now, there is no word about Indian availability and prices and one can expect an update after CES 2018.
