Young Rishabh Pant Has Replaced Gautam Gambhir As Delhi One-Day Captain. Is This The End Of Gambhirs Career?

This might be the end of the road for Gautam Gambhir, even though his test comeback was not so shabby. In line with the BCCI’s policy to infuse younger players at the domestic and international level, Rishabh Pant was made the captain of the Delhi one-day team.

Atul Wassan, the chairman of the selection committee, spoke with Gautam Gambhir to inform him about the decision.

β€œFrankly Vijay Hazare is the last tournament of the season and this was an ideal opportunity for us to see who is the best candidate to lead the state side. We were not finding anyone all these years who could replace Gautam," former India spinner and current Delhi selector Nikhil Chopra told PTI.

"The Hazare Trophy gives us opportunity to test Rishabh's captaincy skills and with Gautam and other seniors around, he will get ample guidance from Gautam. Obviously Atul has spoken to Gautam and he has been taken into confidence," said Chopra.

Rishabh, who is just 19 years old, has impressed everyone with his opening swashbuckling style and hard hitting. He is undoubtedly the future of Indian cricket but Gautam Gambhir should get one last chance to bid goodbye to his international career.
