What Steve Jobs Actually Meant When He Said Follow Your Passion

Steve Jobs said, “You've got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don't settle.” and he also said that people with passion can change the world for better.

Now, most of us get confused following our passion when we don't see any monetary benefit from it. You may love cooking and but do not see yourself being a chef. You may like meditation a lot but you may not want to teach it as your passion. The thing here is that

we confuse our self-passion with the monetary support system. What Steve Jobs actually meant was that people with purpose can change the world for the better. He himself was not passionate about technology but was passionate about western history, calligraphy, and dance. If he had followed his passion only he would have ended up somewhere else.

So what do we do?

Steve Jobs was a genius when it came to coming up with original and impossible ideas and making them happen. As a child, he was considered odd and a loner most of the time, so at an emotional level his purpose was mostly related to not being understood by others. That could have eventually built up his purpose of helping people understand things they thought were impossible or were odd to them.

So, we can see he had his genius(ideas) and purpose(helping people understand) driven by the help of his passion(calligraphy etc.). Passion brings fun and purpose brings impact, and when you find a perfect balance you change the world for the better.
