There's A New Backpack That Can Let Anyone Defy Gravity

If you ever wanted to bounce around in a weightless environment or jump higher than you normally could — there's now a backpack that can let you do that. A team of researchers from the University of Tokyo has developed a backpack that works like a jetpack and defies gravity. It lets users jump higher and farther than you normally can and it has been named "Lunavity".

The company posted a video on YouTube that shows off its virtues where a human is harnessed to backpack and becomes airborne. The person is airborne temporarily, making it appear as if he jumped higher than he could. Once someone is strapped in, the rotors are visible above the head and will be activated once the user jumps. The rotors would fire only when the initial force is instigated by leg muscle.

Once the rotors fire, the backpack will keep the user rising until it starts to descend slowly. According to the team, the backpack will let people jump two or three times higher than normal. The backpack was developed for the purpose of augmenting human abilities and may also be beneficial to people with disabilities.

The above video shows how the backpack will work even though the company has not shown a working prototype as of now. It could mean that the company has not been able to make a prototype that is safe enough for use by people.

As of now, there is no information as to how much it will cost or when it will be released to the public. It's not even entirely certain whether a backpack like this would even become a consumer release. However, the creators must be applauded for conjuring up something straight out of science fiction.
