Felix Hernandez is giving trick photography a new layer of cool. He earlier made news when he had to photograph a $160K-worth Audi R8, but instead he used a $40 miniature toy car. Following the same thing for his latest project with Audi Middle East, Hernandez used a $32 miniature toy car instead of the real $50,000 car.

For this photoshoot, he created a tiny version of a desert and roadway right in the middle of his studio. Even though he’s an expert of this kind of miniature photography, this project turned out to be quite challenging for him.

“Where I normally work with 1/18 scale models, for the Q2 launch I was commissioned to do a series of photographs using a 1/43 scale model,” says the photographer. “This was my first time doing this kind of photography with such a small model.”
To create the perfect desert setting, he made sand dunes out of polvo fino (fine powder) mixed with water.

Felix also used foam core, LEDs, and sand paper to build an indoor roadway.

It’s actually almost impossible to tell that it’s fake and these stunning pictures will probably fool everyone.
But, Hernandez did fly to Dubai with fellow photographer Adrian Sommeling, take a shot of the Q2 in front of an iconic Middle Eastern cityscape.
