"Hundred iPhone X handsets worth a total of Rs 85.61 lakh were seized from his baggage after a thorough search," Additional Commissioner of customs at the airport, Amandeep Singh, said. The mobile phones were seized under Section 110 of the Customs Act, 1962.
The iPhone X is sold in India for a considerably higher price when compared to other countries. The iPhone X (64GB Model) costs Rs 84,990 in India and can go up to Rs 108,930 for the 256GB variant. The reason for high prices for the iPhone X is mostly due to high import duties as Apple does not manufacture the model in India. Due to rising prices, people often opt to purchase iPhones from countries that sell it at a cheaper price.

Apple recently announced worldwide warranty for iPhones that encourages customers to obtain Apple's latest iPhone for a cheaper price.
The iPhone X costs AED 4,965 in Dubai which is roughly INR 78,294 and is quite lucrative for smugglers to sell Apple's products at a higher profit margin. Apple's iPhone X is currently the world's best selling smartphone according to research firm Strategy Analytics and it seems like the demand for a cheaper iPhone X isn't going to slow down anytime soon.
