Whenever someone points out mistakes in our English speaking skills, we often take it to our hearts thinking “Hey! Just because we aren’t as great in English as you are, you can’t humiliate us like that.” Well, we completely agree with those sentiments that English should be treated as a language and not a parameter for judging someone’s caliber or success. However, if you are at a certain stature or situation, you need to realize that you can’t take things lightly. A few years back, when a reporter called China’s Premiere Xi Jinping as Eleven Jinping, we all shared a good laugh, but also turned into a laughing stock in front of the world. Honestly, we thought that we have seen everything and there’s nothing that will surprise us. However, recently, an announcer made an error that could have turned things sour for everyone but thankfully the delegates took it lightly.

PM Narendra Modi and Bangladeshi PM Sheikh Hasina recently met for a joint press conference at Hyderabad House and while they were standing at the podium, the host said “May I request the two prime ministers to step down.” The official did not have any wrong intentions and accidently said “Step down” instead of “Step off”. For those who don’t know, ‘step down’ is a term used when a leader withdraws or resigns from his office. Thankfully, things didn’t turn sour and the entire hall broke into laughter and soon this mistake faded in this air.

There can be times when you might skip something important, but there is nothing that can dodge Twitter’s eagle eyes. As expected, people did notice this error and could not control themselves from sharing their take on the entire fiasco.
