Priceless Reactions That Prove Gareth Bale's 'Bicycle Kick' Was One of UCL Final's Greatest Goals

Whether you're a fan of Real Madrid or not, the artistry in their goal-scoring ability is something every football fan would laud. The Los Blancos cannot only score rapidly, but they seem to have mastered the art of scoring amazing goals over the years. But, it seems that the Spanish giants tend to keep the best of their goals for the UEFA Champions League.

Many would remember Zinedine Zidane's brilliant left-footed volley against Bayer Leverkusen which powered Real Madrid to the 2002 Champions League title following a 2-1 win in the final. More recently, it was Cristiano Ronaldo whose 'bicycle kick' wonder goal saw the Juventus fans applauding his effort from the stands in the quaterfinals.

On 27th May, Real Madrid's romance with amazing goals continued. While both Zidane and Ronaldo were present in this season's final, it was Gareth Bale - the man who was initially dropped from the Starting XI - who made the summit clash against Liverpool his own.

Karim Benzema had already justified his selection ahead of Bale after capitalising on a lapse of concentration from Reds' keeper Loris Karius whose error cost his side the opening goal in the 51st minute. However, just four minutes later, Sadio Mane levelled the proceedings for Liverpool following a corner.

With their one goal lead up in flames, Madrid were looking to pull ahead when manager Zidane brought Bale on for Isco in the 61st minute. Entrusted with the responsibility of making an impact, Bale took just three minutes to restore the lead for Madrid. And, he did so in ways beyond logic and understanding.

Receiving the ball from Marcelo, Bale had his back towards goal as he plunged in the air unleased the ambitious 'bicycle kick'. While it takes more than just practice to get it right in a live game, Bale couldn't have pulled it off any better. It had perfect height and incredibly accurate leverage which sent the ball crashing into the top-left corner of the goal.

The Welshman struck again in the 83rd minute when he smashed a long-range effort which eventually went through the hands of nervous Karius. While his second goal eventually sealed a 3-1 win for his side, it was his gravity-defying wonder goal earlier in the game that earned all the plaudits before being hailed as one of the greatest goals in a Champions League final.
