The New iPad Pro Is Expected To Ditch The Headphone Jack Just Like The iPhone

The new iPad Pro models are expected to launch later this year and there's a new report that suggests some bad news for users.

The current generation of the iPad Pro models feature a headphone jack and some of the most powerful components on a tablet ever. Having said that, supply chain website Macotakara has published a new report, that gives us some more information about the upcoming device.

According to the reports, the 2018 iPad Pro is expected to come in two sizes i.e. 10.5-inch and the 12.9-inch models. The smaller iPad Pro is expected to have dimensions of 247.5mm (H) x 178.7mm (W) x 6mm (T) which can be compared to the current generations size i.e.  250.6mm x 174.1mm x 6.1 mm.

The larger model is expected to see some major change as it is expected to stack up at 280mm (H) x 215mm (W) x 6.4mm (T). The current 12.9-inch model as dimensions of 305.7 x 220.6 x 6.9 mm which suggests that the model is going to have a smaller footprint, will be less wide thanks to the new display technology and will be thinner.

The report also suggests that Apple is likely to ditch the headphone jack with the 2018's models, a move that was first introduced with the iPhone 7.

Apple will also not include a Lightning to 3.5mm headphone adapter if users want to continue using their wired headsets. The adapter is currently supplied with all iPhone models since the launch of iPhone 7 and it may just be a move that would disappoint many users.

The new report also corroborates previously leaked information that suggests the new iPad Pro models will have the Face ID feature. The new feature is said to work only when a user holds the iPad vertically i.e. it does not have support for facial recognition when used in the landscape mode.

This may be a problem for users, as the iPad is generally used in landscape mode to watch content, and with accessories such as the Smart Keyboard. The report, however, details that the smart connector on the new iPad is going to move from the side of the tablet to “the lower rear side – close to the Lightning connector.”

Macotakra has been known to get inaccurate details in the past, however, it does sometimes report accurate information acquired from supply chain sources. Either way, nobody can be really sure until Apple announces the new iPad Pro later this year.
