Xiaomi is comparatively new in the Indian market and in the bigger picture a very young company, but this hasn't stopped it from grabbing a huge chunk of the market. In a span of two years, the company has managed to take over the number one spot in India, surpassing behemoths like Samsung. 

This year itself the company has established itself as an unchallenged leader with the Redmi Note 5 Pro, the demand is still so high that the company has to sell it via flash sales even after 6 months of launch. Now, Xiaomi has announced the Mi A2, the successor of the equally popular Mi A1.

While the Redmi Note 5 Pro and other devices in their portfolio are powered by MIUI, the A series is a part of the Android One program. Meaning, software is pure Android and almost directly shipped from Google. There are many out there who prefer a clean and simple UI, so pure Android is built for these users. 

Coming to the specifications, it has a 6-inch IPS LCD Full-HD+ display with an aspect ratio of 18:9 and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Under the hood is an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor clocked at 2.2 GHz with Adreno 512 GPU. In India, one variant is available with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. Unfortunately, the storage is not expandable.

On the rear, it sports a 12 + 20-megapixel dual-camera setup that is capable of recording 4K videos at 30FPS. Both the rear cameras have an impressive aperture of f/1.75. The front has a 20-megapixel Sony IMX376 snapper with beautify and portrait mode features. 

The phone is backed by a 3010mAh non-removable battery and also supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0. The fingerprint scanner is located on the back, the phone also supports Face Unlock for authentication. Xiaomi has ditched the 3.5mm headphone jack here, though they are shipping a Type-C to 3.5mm jack adapter for free.

The Mi A2 runs on stock Android 8.1 Oreo and is assured to receive regular software as well as security updates thanks to the Android One program. 

The phone is priced at Rs 16,999 and is exclusively available on Amazon.in and Mi.com from August 16. The pre-order starts from August 9 though.
