Tottenham Hotspurs' Women's Team Gives Befitting Response To Racially Motivated Opponents

Football is played by millions of people from different countries, religions and races. The love for the game unites people from all walks of life as one, to truly appreciate the sport.

However, even in the modern era, people with racial agendas on their mind exist who contaminate the piousness of the game. Even today, unfortunate spurts of racism are often reported from all over the world which deflates one's faith in the societal progression of our species.

One such incident took place with the Tottenham Hotspurs Ladies' Team defender Renee Hector, who was minding her own business when an unnamed member of the opposing Sheffield United resorted to racially abusing her.

Clearly trying to get under the athlete's skin, the accused made “monkey noises” to address Hector during the ongoing FA Women's championship match. "Such a shame that racism seems to be rising up again in football - I received some monkey noises today from an opposition player,” Hector tweeted after the match.

Such a shame that racism seems to be rising up again in football - I received some monkey noises today from an opposition player. The only reaction was to let the football do the talking and that we did ð𤩠great start to the year! @ThlfcOfficial #COYSL #SHEvTOT #KickItOut

Not losing her cool, the 23-year-old calmly reported this incident to the match officials and continued to focus on the game. “The only reaction was to let the football do the talking,” her tweet read ever so correctly as the Lilywhites played a brilliant game of soccer to win 2-1 against Sheffield.

Hector's emotions resonated with a lot of people on social media, who congratulated the star on her ability to contain the situation and rise above hate to win the match while doing the right thing by letting the officials know about the offence, rather than taking the matter into her own hands.

So proud of @renazzza and the rest of the teams response ðhttps://t.co/iOfGF49GS5

No place in football for racism...everð«!!! What better way to respond then starting the New Year with 3 points! ð#coys #spursladies #KickItOut https://t.co/NkepJ35q8G

The FA later confirmed that they were “aware of an allegation of discriminatory abuse” and will be “making enquiries into the matter,” in a tweet.

Racism is simply not acceptable. Be it a casual joke or a full-on barrage of brutal and shameless taunts, no matter how serious the discriminating act, it is wrong and the society as a whole must stand against it, regardless of who the victim is.

    Big-ups to you, Renee Hector.
