Zdzisław Beksiński once said "I wish to paint in such a manner as if I were photographing dreams.” Unfortunately, the Polish artist is no longer with us, but he has left behind a roster of over 300 insane paintings as his legacy. 

The surrealist artist combined despair, horror and decay with beauty and awe in his dystopian type paintings, completely filled with post-apocalyptic imagery and nightmarish creatures. They’re not only creepy, but also are a reflection of the artist’s mindset. 

He combines regular, everyday stuff in such a way that would only be a possibility in a dream (or a nightmare). His surrealistic art is beautifully abstract and the mind-bending scenarios he depicts are almost too creepy. Well, the only explanation he has offered comes from this cryptic quote : "What matters is what appears in your soul, not what your eyes see and what you can name."
