The Godfather Cast Comes Together For A Historic Corleone Family Get-Together After 45 Years

It has been 45 years since director Francis Ford Coppola made everyone an offer they could not refuse. In 1972, ‘The Godfather’ released and redefined filmmaking forever. Along with the unbelievable box office success, and the Oscars the movie received, ‘The Godfather’ also catapulted Al Pacino into stardom and introduced the world to the life of the Cosa Nostra.

For the movie’s 45th anniversary, the whole cast, along with Francis Ford Coppola, had a reunion at the Tribeca Film Festival and all of them together reflected on what it was like being a part of arguably the greatest movie of all time. When De Niro, Pacino, James Caan, Robert Duvall and Talia Shire sat down together for a Q&A, we got to learn a lot of cool stuff about the movie, the most interesting one being the fact that no one really had full confidence in the movie.

‘The Godfather’ was quite a risk since it was relying on the talents of a young, untested director, an unknown actor in Pacino, and a source material widely regarded as unfit for the screen.  "It was a great script," said Pacino. "But ... at the time we were so young and inexperienced. We didn't know what filmmaking was, really."

He also remembered people snickering on the other end while he was filming scenes and thought “Well, this isn't going well.” Even Coppola was disappointed in the book when he first read it because it was very long.

Even after 45 years, ‘The Godfather’ is still one of the most relevant movie to this date and has easily achieved legendary status but it’s funny to think about how it had to through so much to actually get made. The famous restaurant scene had to be moved up since Paramount was just looking for reasons to fire Pacino. Both Pacino and Coppola had to prove their worth, which they most certainly did.
