A 35YO Guy, Who's A Doctor, Ex-Soldier & A Soon-To-Be Astronaut, Defines 'Adarsh Balak' Perfectly

Move over the ideal "Sharma Ji ka beta", because 35 years old Korean Jonny Kim is the ideal definition of what an "adarsh balak" truly means.

Initially, Jonny, a Korean-American residing in Los Angeles, lacked self-confidence as a kid. After high school, he enrolled himself under the US special Warfare Command.

In a recent interview with media, he explained how he decided to change his life. “Going into the Navy was the best decision I ever made in my life because it completely transformed that scared boy who didn't have any dreams to someone who started to believe in himself”, he said.

While he was on a mission, said reports, he saw a fellow soldier being shot on the face as Kim failed to provide the required medical aid. He felt helpless and eventually decided to study medicine.

Keeping the prodigal streak alive, Kim studied medicine at Harvard University and specialised in emergency medicine, the reports suggested. In 2017, he eventually applied for a NASA program and well, no surprises here, he got selected.

Out of over 18,300 people who applied for this training program, only 22 got selected and Kim was one of them. In his training program, he took extensive training in spacewalking, robotics, International Space Systems, T-38 jet proficiency and  even learnt Russian.

A true privilege and honor to walk among the @NASA Astronaut Corps with my brothers and sisters. We know there are many qualified and deserving candidates out there - we're the lucky ones to represent humanity. Kim feels that this will be another occupation for him where he'll say “I cant believe I am paid for this”, and well, we can't believe it either.
