If we are being brutally honest, we should have seen the debacle over the opening of alcohol shop, after lockdown of 40+ days, coming from a mile. Although there have been many speculations and requests to allow liquor and alcohol to be delivered home, the movement has not been taken seriously by most governments. Until now.

Earlier today, the state government of Chhatisgarh started delivering alcohol to the doorstep of people who place their orders online, a move that is seen largely as being a smart one. Not only will the move help in keeping the spread of the contagion under control, it will also help the state in collecting some money in the form of excise duty that is levied on the sale of alcohol.

This sort of a move becomes necessary, especially after the manner in which social distancing norms all across the country were shot to smithereens.

There are a few conditions though. Customers can only place their orders through a website, for up to 5000 ML or 5 litres of alcohol at a time. Furthermore, a delivery charge of Rs 120 will be added to your bill. This does not seem to be a bad idea at all if you ask us.

Of course, Twitter went crazy on learning this. There were some who seemed genuinely happy and were all praises for Chief Minister Baghel.

Say what you will of the move, it is actually quite a genius way to kill two birds with one stone. You get to collect some hefty money as excise, people get their buzz on, and social distancing norms are not trampled - a win-win situation for all.
